Comparison Of In-Use Emissions Measurement Using Pems, Ftir And Full-Scale Dilution Method, Satya Ravi
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
With an increasing focus on implementing low emission heavy duty (HD) vehicles in the booming freight transportation sector, engine manufacturers have started prompting studies on addressing the technical challenges of measuring these virtually near zero levels of gaseous and particulate emissions. Moreover, from a regulatory perspective, beginning 2005, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) promulgated the in-use testing program for HD diesel engines in addition to the regular compliance testing protocol. The rule mandates the engine manufacturers to measure gaseous and particulate matter emissions using a portable emissions measurement system (PEMS) during real-world driving conditions, and verify that they …

Implications Of Primary Cilia And Associated Lysophosphatidic Acid Signaling In Glioblastoma Biology And Therapy, Yuriy V. Loskutov
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The primary cilium is a ubiquitous organelle presented on most human cells. It serves as a crucial signaling hub for multiple pathways including growth factor and G-protein coupled receptors. Loss of primary cilia was observed in various cancers, however, the implications of this event are unclear. Several studies show that loss of cilia promotes cell proliferation, suggesting that alteration of ciliary-dependent signaling can drive the hyperproliferative phenotype of cancer cells, therefore re-establishing primary cilia or targeting altered signaling pathways could be a beneficial strategy as an anti-cancer therapy.;Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the deadliest cancers with a median survival of …

Serotonergic Modulation Of Inhibitory Input To Lateral Horn Affects Odor-Mediated Attraction In D. Melanogaster, Ayad Auda
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
To survive, animals must eat, mate, and avoid danger by sensing external stimuli, processing sensory information into perception, and eliciting the appropriate behavioral responses in accordance with their physiological states. Unlike learned responses, innate responses are genetically inherited and do not require the animal to have a previous encounter with the stimulus to elicit an action. However, innate responses can be flexible based on the physiological state of the animal. This flexibility is achieved through constant alterations in network dynamics which ensures that the animal's responses are most effective. This alteration occurs to some extent by modulatory neurons/nuclei at multiple …

Impact Of Formation Damage Due To Perforation On Well Productivity, Elmouzemill Abrahim Adam
Impact Of Formation Damage Due To Perforation On Well Productivity, Elmouzemill Abrahim Adam
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Formation Damage can be defined as any reduction in near wellbore permeability which results from drilling, completion, production, injection, attempted stimulation or any other well intervention. In the majority of completions, once the reservoir has been drilled, production casing or a liner is run into the well and cemented in place. To provide the communication between the reservoir and the wellbore, it is necessary to perforate through the walls of the cemented casing or a liner and penetrate into the formation. Currently horizontal well bores completed with extensive perforation are conducted as several clusters along the well bore. Perforation can …
Analyzing Discovery Latency In Mobile Networks, Saud Alramzi
Analyzing Discovery Latency In Mobile Networks, Saud Alramzi
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Duty cycle is important in wireless sensor and mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) to extend their lifetime. Duty cycling in wireless networks lets the nodes wake up with infrequent fixed periods, based on pre-determined parameters. On the other hand, neighbor discovery is the process by which nodes learn about the neighbors. Nodes can use radio communications to discover other neighbors. Timely, neighbor discovery is crucial for routing. But, neighbor discovery becomes more challenging in energy-constrained, mobile environment with duty cycled nodes where a node may not know whether any neighbors are present, and what duty cycle those neighbors might operate at. …

Integer Flows And Circuit Covers Of Graphs And Signed Graphs, Jian Cheng
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The work in Chapter 2 is motivated by Tutte and Jaeger's pioneering work on converting modulo flows into integer-valued flows for ordinary graphs. For a signed graphs (G, sigma), we first prove that for each k ∈ {lcub}2, 3{rcub}, if (G, sigma) is (k -- 1)-edge-connected and contains an even number of negative edges when k = 2, then every modulo k-flow of (G, sigma) can be converted into an integer-valued ( k + 1)-ow with a larger or the same support. We also prove that if (G, sigma) is odd-(2p+1)-edge-connected, then (G, sigma) admits a modulo circular (2 + …
The Analysis Of The Fatty Acid Content Of Fingerprint Residues Using Gas Chromatographymass Spectrometry, Ashley R. Cochran
The Analysis Of The Fatty Acid Content Of Fingerprint Residues Using Gas Chromatographymass Spectrometry, Ashley R. Cochran
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
One of the recurring issues in the practice of forensic science is human subjectivity, especially within the field of fingerprint examination. Smudged fingerprints at crime scenes that contain little to no ridge detail often cause problems for examiners who, in turn, are unable to make identifications or exclusions in the absence of DNA markers. In recent years, researchers have explored the chemical composition of fingerprint residues to either provide an alternative means for including or excluding potential donors, or to provide investigative leads. Research into the chemical composition of fingerprints has shown that it may be possible to determine sex, …

Effect Of Thermal Boundary Conditions On Propagation Of Non-Equidiffusive Flames In Pipes, Swathi Reddy Shetty
Effect Of Thermal Boundary Conditions On Propagation Of Non-Equidiffusive Flames In Pipes, Swathi Reddy Shetty
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Boundary conditions constitute one of the key factors influencing combustion in chambers with large aspect ratios such as narrow channels or pipes. Specifically, the flame shape and propagation velocity are impacted by wall friction and heat transfer to the walls. Both factors continuously deform the flame front, thereby resulting in a larger surface area of the flame front as compared to a planar flame. Such a corrugated flame consumes more fuel per unit time and thereby propagates faster than the planar flame at the same thermal-chemical conditions. Consequently, a flame accelerates due to the boundary conditions.;In the recent years, there …

Three Essays On Trade And Local Labor Markets, Sandeep Sharma
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
This dissertation studies the effect of trade on wage dispersion, crime rates and alcohol consumption at the local labor market level in the the U.S. The first chapter develops a new measure for skill to investigate the effects of offshoring on wages of three types of workers: high-skilled, medium-skilled, and low-skilled. I also look at the effect of offshoring on wages of offshorable occupations. Although the previous literature emphasizes the impact of offshoring on the skill premium, I find that job characteristics such as offshorability is critical in explaining the wage effect. Chapter 2 analyzes the effects of increasing import …
