The main purpose of this study is to address the question of how price forecasts can be produced in an accurate, reliable, and cost-effective form for planning and policy purposes in Mexican agriculture. The use of computer hardware and software technology in schools is on the rise while there are increasing demands for success in mathematics by all students, despite diverse backgrounds. The problem is to determine the characteristics of students who most benefit from the use of spreadsheet software as a cognitive tool to assist them as they learn to organize and analyze data. For a period of six weeks, 114 seventh grade students received standard instruction in their mathematics classes in basic statistics/data analysis content. The goal of this research was to find polymeric additives that would significantly decrease the rate of crystallization in nylon 6,6, in order to enhance mechanical properties indirectly. Since miscibility was essential, different classes of materials considered included amorphous and semi-crystalline nylons, and other polymers known to be compatible with polyamides. These additives were blended with nylon 6,6 using solution and melt blending techniques. The change in thermal behavior of the blends was evaluated using data obtained with a Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analyzer (DMTA). Was John Milton’s prose and poetry in any way influenced by seventeenth-century Anglo-Saxon scholarship? The answer is "yes." Just as John Milton was in dialogue with radical seventeenth-century political groups such as the Levellers and Diggers—a ground-breaking thesis first proposed by Christopher Hill—so Milton was also in dialogue with those academics and antiquarians researching and, in some ways, reinventing the Anglo-Saxon past. Through a close reading of Milton’s first Defense and other selected prose works, as well as the History of Britain and Paradise Lost, this thesis proposes to reexamine an old issue that has never been satisfactorily explicated. This report presents the results of an investigation on the effectiveness of glass fiber grids as a reinforcement of the asphalt base layer in a flexible pavement. The study involved both laboratory experimental work and computer analysis of pavement sections. As part of the experimental work, twenty flexible pavement sections (with and without glass fiber grids) were constructed and tested in the laboratory. The laboratory-scale pavement sections were instrumented with pressure cells, displacement gages, and strain gages. This research has focused on the regulation of mucosal and systemic humoral immune responses to respiratory enteric orphan virus (reovirus). Enteric infection with reovirus elicits both intestinal and systemic humoral immunity characterized by the production of local mucosal IgA and systemic serum IgG. Although the immune responses to reovirus have been well described, the events that regulate immunity are less understood. We observed that the quality of the humoral immune response to enteric reovirus infection was influenced by genetic background and route of viral infection. The Easter Rising of 1916 is often considered to mark the end of the colonial period in the territory now called the Republic of Ireland. The primary function of the human placenta is to ensure an optimal environment for fetal growth and development. Nutrients, endogenous substances and xenobiotics enter the placenta via the maternal circulation. The placenta possesses the ability to metabolize a number of xenobiotics and endogenous compounds by processes (cytochrome P450 enzymes and/or glutathione conjugation pathways) similar to those in the liver. Although the metabolites produced are usually inactive, reactive or toxic metabolites may also be generated. This paper describes the refinement and testing of the Student Evaluation of Clinical Education Environment (SECEE) inventory, an instrument designed to measure nursing student perceptions of the clinical learning environment. Although a quality student clinical experience is considered critical to nursing education, no comprehensive instruments measuring the clinical learning environment have been published. The SECEE inventory contains 29 forced-choice items divided among four scales: Communication and Feedback, Learning Opportunities, Learning Support, and Department Atmosphere. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and electron-nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) studies have been performed on flux-grown and hydrothermal-grown potassium titanyl phosphate (KTiOPO{dollar}\\sb4{dollar}, or KTP) crystals. Four radiation-induced tapped-electron centers have been identified and a complete angular dependence analysis has provided spin-Hamiltonian parameters for each center. Either near-band-edge laser light (355-nm third-harmonic output from a Nd:YAG laser) or 60-kV x-rays can be used to produce the defects. These electron traps are perturbed Ti{dollar}\\sp{lcub}3+{rcub}{dollar} ions, where the perturbation acts to stabilize the electron. The purpose of this study was to learn what might have contributed to the academic success of Puerto Rican undergraduates. The investigation centered around the perceptions of the participants about the role and significance of socio-economic status, compatibility of the home and school environments, bilingualism, encouragement, and motivation. A qualitative design was used. Ten participants of Puerto Rican origin, undergraduate students at a major university in the northeast were interviewed at their university. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between presidential leadership orientation of Bible college presidents and the organizational effectiveness of the Bible colleges. To examine this relationship, two instruments were used, one that investigated presidential leadership orientation (Bolman's 1990 Leadership Orientation), and one that investigated organizational effectiveness (Cameron's 1978 Assessment of Organizational Structures and Effectiveness in Colleges and Universities). Conducting investigative interviews with children who were allegedly sexually abused is perhaps one of the most challenging aspects of child protective service (CPS) workers' jobs. Previous research suggests that training workshops on investigative interviewing conducted with front-line workers, such as police officers and CPS workers, may result in improved knowledge about appropriate strategies to use. However, limited research has addressed whether such trainings result in improvements in actual interviewing skills. The present investigation assessed the impact of a six-hour training workshop on CPS workers' knowledge about and performance during investigative interviews. Researchers suggest replacing toothbrushes immediately following illness to reduce the possibility of microorganisms causing disease.1 The continuous use of a microbial-contaminated toothbrush may be potentially harmful to its user, especially if the user is medically compromised or immunosuppressed. Incarceration in the United States has increased dramatically in recent years. The total number of inmates under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) on September 30, 1995, was 100,958, an increase of over 11,000 (12%) from January 1, 1994 (U. S. Department of Justice, 1995a) and an increase o f over 60,000 (152%) from 1981 (U. S. Department of Justice, 1994a). Approximately 92% of this population is male. The St. Albans archeologic site, recognized since 1964, occurs on a low terrace of the Kanawha River. Stratigraphic and magnetic susceptibility studies at the site have lead to the development of a model for predicting artifact recovery potential that is important to planning future excavations at the site.;Charcoal fragments, reddened soils and fire-cracked rocks indicate that most high magnetic susceptibility readings are produced by fire. The association of artifacts in many of these high magnetically susceptible sediments indicates they are cultural fire hearths. The following study explored relations between theory of mind understanding, attention, language ability, and general intelligence. Scores on measures of auditory processing (Test of Auditory Reasoning and Processing Skills), language comprehension (Test of Auditory Comprehension of Language, Revised), matrix completion (Raven's Colored Progressive Matrices), false belief and recursive thinking understanding were obtained along with teacher ratings of children's self-regulation as measured by Attention and Hyperactivity subscales of the Conner's Rating Scale. Analysis of zero-order correlations revealed self-regulation to be negatively correlated with recursive thinking, while age, general intelligence, auditory processing, and language ability were positively correlated with theory of mind …

The purpose of the present study was to further clarify the structural and functional properties of stimulus equivalence classes and functional stimulus classes relative to the procedures that establish them. With college students, stimulus equivalence classes were established using a standard selection-based matching-to-sample (MTS) procedure, and functional stimulus classes were established using a topography-based naming task. During the naming trials, students were trained to say distinct nonsense words in the presence of arbitrarily assigned sets of symbols. In this research, a combined hole-drilling/phase shift moire interferometry method was applied to determine the residual stress state. This new method overcomes the drawbacks of the conventional hole-drilling/strain-gage method in that it has the advantage of high sensitivity full field measurement. For a cracked structure, the integrity of the structure depends not only on the external applied loads but also on residual stress state at the crack tip. Hence, determination of the residual stress intensity at the crack tip is essential to ensure the safety of the structure. Basin Analysis Of The Carboniferous Strata In Central And Southern West Virginia Using Sequence Stratigraphic Principles., Chaoqing Yang

This study was designed to analyze the perplexing Carboniferous stratigraphy in the study area using a sequence-stratigraphic approach in conjunction with lithostratigraphic and subsurface mapping methods. A regional stratigraphic framework is established for the uppermost Devonian to Middle Pennsylvanian interval in the study area using a network of well-log cross sections. Lithostratigraphic units are correlated throughout the study area mostly at formation level; most of the units are correlated from the subsurface to their outcropping equivalents.
