The Role Of Emotional Intelligence On Coach-Athlete Relationships And Motivational Climate, Eric E. Steege
The Role Of Emotional Intelligence On Coach-Athlete Relationships And Motivational Climate, Eric E. Steege
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Research has revealed that Emotional Intelligence is linked to improved conflict resolution, enhanced social attachments and mental health, and the ability to create a collective set of goals that motivate others (Pau & Croucher, 2003). The recent surge of research assessing the role EI may play in leadership effectiveness, motivation, and social attachments within non-sport domains overlaps with similar research within sport that assesses the influence of emotion on coaching effectiveness (Frijda & Mesquita, 1994; Mageau & Vallerand, 2003). Thus, the purpose of this investigation was to examine if higher EI coached athletes (N=34) varied compared to lower EI coached …

Heavenly Genes: Eugenics And The New Woman In Fin De Siecle England., Jane V. Rago
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
In 1886 the Contagious Diseases Acts were repealed after a long sixteen year fight, led by social reformers and what would later come to be known as the first wave of feminism. Western feminism was born and bred in large part out of the debates sparked by the Contagious Diseases Acts, debates that opened up into the appeal for women to be granted full citizenship through the right to vote, to own property after marriage, and the right to education and employment outside the home. The crux of this argument was grounded in a critique of mid-Victorian ideology of separate …

Consolidation Of Parental Monitoring Variables And Scales: Preliminary Evidence For Construct Validity, Ryan J. Anderson
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The aim of the present study was to improve definitions of parental monitoring constructs by reducing the domain of content from which researchers have sampled in previous investigations. For example, between the years of 1991 and 2007 researchers developed at least 49 different parental monitoring scales comprised of a total of 310 questions or items. Visual inspection of these scales as well as thorough review of the parental monitoring literature suggested that researchers primarily were interested in assessing five domains of content (the sum of which is described as parental monitoring). These five domains of content are (1) adolescent perceptions …
