A Thermal Analysis Of A Spirally Wound Battery Using A Simple Mathematical Model, T. I. Evans, Ralph E. White

A two-dimensional thermal model for spirally wound batteries has been developed. The governing equation of the model is the energy balance. Convective and insulated boundary conditions are used, and the equations are solved using a finite element code called TOPAZ2D. The finite element mesh is generated using a preprocessor to TOPAZ2D called MAZE. The model is used to estimate temperature profiles within a spirally wound D-size cell. The model is applied to the lithium/thionyl chloride cell because of the thermal management problems that this cell exhibits. A description is given of the Regional Partnership Program; a field-responsive; center-specific model established at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) designed to oversee clinical field experiences for student teachers. This cooperative partnership calls for a resident tenure track professor to be placed in a geographic area away from the main campus for the purpose of directing the student teaching program; teaching extension courses and being involved in other activities designed by the university. The model involves six regional districts specifically located across the state in such a fashion as to cause the university to be in touch with all …

Unobtrusive Studies And The Quality Of Academic Library Reference Services, Jo Bell Whitlatch

This article uses empirical data from a recent obtrusive study of reference performance to explore content validity and assumptions regarding unobtrusive studies. Data collected by author support the contention that improvements are highly desirable before conducting more unobtrusive studies of reference service. The two most important changes concern the development of test questions representing all types of queries and supplementing the correct fill rate with other measures of reference performance.

The author surveys the laws affecting loans made by a corporation to its executives, including the state loan enabling statutes, the applicable tax laws, and any disclosurerequirements. Also discussed is the applicability of Regulation G to loans made by a corporation to facilitate share purchases by its executives. Finally, the author enumerates the risks inherent in executive lending and makes suggestions for risk minimization.

At the beginning of the seventeenth century the Dominican friar from Calabria, fra' Tommaso Campanella, had already solidified his anti-Aristotelian theories, had been persecuted and arrested, and was simulating madness in order to save his life while incarcerated in Naples. When Campanella conceived La Città del Sole under these circumstances in 1602, he was interpreting Telesio's naturalistic philosophy in a metaphysical manner, and was expressing in nuce the fundamental theories he would amplify two years later in Del Senso delle Cose e delle Magie.

An Incentive-Based Wild Horse Management System On Public Rangeland, Ray G. Huffaker, James E. Wilen, B. Gardner Delworth

This paper explores an incentive-based management system to induce federal grazing permittees to choose sustained cattle stocking strategies which accommodate government-set wild horse numbers and nongrazing uses. Particular attention is paid to constraints imposed by federal grazing statutes. The proposed system employs increased livestock grazing fees to induce permittees to provide increased vegetation for consumption by wild horses and nongrazing uses. The negative impact of increased fees on permittee wealth is counterbalanced with compensatory transfer payments. Taken together, grazing fees and compensation payments induce multiple-use compliance by permittee-stewards and keep their discounted livestock profits intact at some predetermined level.
