On Children And Dual Nationality: Sabet And The Islamic Republic Of Iran, Nancy Amoury Combs Jan 2000

On Children And Dual Nationality: Sabet And The Islamic Republic Of Iran, Nancy Amoury Combs

Faculty Publications

The Iran-United States Claims Tribunal's recent decision in Sabet and The Islamic Republic of Iran sheds new light on difficult issues concerning the dual nationality of minors. In particular, the case was the first in which the Tribunal determined minor dual national claimants to have a dominant and effective nationality different from that of either of their parents. Further, the Tribunal broke new ground in its analysis of 'the caveat,' an equitable doctrine that can bar the claims of dual nationals. This article applauds the Tribunal's advances in its caveat jurisprudence and develops a new approach that would further those …

Variable Léxica Y Comparación Dialectal, Orlando Alba

Faculty Publications

Accreditation And Academic Quality: A Comparison With Healthcare Accreditation, Ramon B. Zabriskie, Bryan P. Mccormick

Faculty Publications

The origins of accreditation in higher education began at the turn of this century, resulting from the rapid growth in number and variety of educational institutions. One of the key concerns of accreditation has been to address quality in educational experiences. Specialized accreditation of higher education programs in recreation, park resources, and leisure services has evolved over the past 20 years; however; concerns can be raised regarding the ability of the current process to adequately measure quality. Comparisons are made with trends identified in the evolution of accreditation in healthcare and their implication to the future of accreditation. Recommendations are …

Freezing The Company Charter, Eric Kades Jan 2000

Freezing The Company Charter, Eric Kades

Faculty Publications

When legislatures alter corporate, partnership, and other business entity statutes, they simultaneously amend the governing document of all entities of that type formed within the jurisdiction. In many circumstances these business entities may wish to retain existing rules for internal governance. This Article offers a novel tool for firms wishing to so manage their own legal transitions: the "charter freeze." A freeze provision in the company charter declares that future (non-mandatory) changes in relevant statutes have no effect on the firm. Owners may affirmatively adopt the new rules, but choose to exercise complete control over their adoption vel non of …

Shapes Of Ministry In The New Testament, P. Gerard Damsteegt Jan 2000

Shapes Of Ministry In The New Testament, P. Gerard Damsteegt

Faculty Publications

The chapter evaluates an interpretation of the New Testament ministry that argues that there was no specific local church organization spelled out in the Bible. The absence of organizational structure allows for the ordination of women in the local church and presents Junia as the first female apostle and Phoebe as a female minister. The evaluation presents the biblical structure of leadership and shows that through incorrect interpretation of the texts this view distorts the biblical view of local church leadership.

A Look At The Methods Of Interpretation In Women In Ministry.Pdf, P. Gerard Damsteegt

Faculty Publications

In this chapter we will focus on the principles of interpreting the Bible set forth by the book, Women in Ministry: Biblical & Historical Perspectives. Since hermeneutical issues were the very reason the book was requested, the underlying interpretive methodology deserves careful review and evaluation.

The Laying On Of Hands, P. Gerard Damsteegt Jan 2000

The Laying On Of Hands, P. Gerard Damsteegt

Faculty Publications

This chapter responds to the argument that the laying on of hands is a part of the ordination service. In the Bible both men and women experience the laying on of hands, so both genders should qualify for ordination to the ministry. The chapter's evaluation brings out that this reasoning fails to take into consideration that the Bible has certain requirements for the office of elder and minister. Therefore, a woman does not have these biblical qualifications and consequently should not be ordained to these positions.

Eve A Priest In Eden?, P. Gerard Damsteegt Jan 2000

Eve A Priest In Eden?, P. Gerard Damsteegt

Faculty Publications

This chapter evaluates the hypothesis that Eve was a priest in Eden before sin had entered into the world which implies that opponents of women ordination cannot use the argument that there were no female priests in the Old Testament.
