The use of summer annual forage crops to supplement cool season perennial forages for grazing has become popular in the mid-western area of the United States. Sudangrass (Sorghum sudanese (Piper) Stapf.) is one of the most important sources of annual summer feed in this area. With the advent of more vigorous and well adapted varieties and hybrids the use of sundangrass has greatly increased. It produces high yields of good quality forage in a short period of time. Instruction in parliamentary procedure has long been a part of the curriculum in many schools of this country. Generally, this instruction has been associated with departments of speech; consequently, speech teachers have researched for methods of evaluating the effectiveness and the extensiveness of training that students receive in parliamentary procedure. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects of two types of resistance-training programs on the velocity of the baseball batting swing. A sub-problem of the study was to determine the effect on the velocity of the batting swing of using a weighted bat immediately prior to batting. In reviewing the papers in the literature concerning delta girder bridges, 1,2,3, it is frequently found that investigations were not carried far enough to be useful for actual design in engineering offices. The four most abundant elements needed to support plant growth are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. Of these carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen are available to the plant in ample supply from the atmosphere and soil. Nitrogen, however, is available only in limited quantities in a form useable to the plant. The nitrogen is usually supplied in the form of nitrates or ammonium-nitrogen. The largest supply of nitrogen is in the atmosphere but it is in the elemental, uncombined form. Heat transfer by convection has been studied extensively since about 1900, but it is probably still the least understood of the three types of heat transfer due to its dependency on fluid dynamics. The most thoroughly studied cases are forced convection over a flat plate and free convection from a vertical isothermal plate. In a large number of engineering applications, it is necessary to calculate the heat transfer from a surface which is heated locally such as a fin heated at its root. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects of an interval running program on circulorespiratory efficiency, body adipose tissue, and body weight of college freshman women. Thirty students were selected randomly from volunteers from all of the freshmen women enrolled in the required freshman physical education program at South Dakota State University, equated by an oxygen consumption test, and placed in an experimental or control group. The experimental group participated in an interval running program over a six-week period. The workload consisted of running bouts on a graded treadmill with at specific interval rest period. The application of mist to cauliflower and lettuce plants improved the quality of cauliflower heads. The mean temperature reduction in the mist plots was 4.8° F. Positive correlation of .76 was obtained between outside temperature and temperature under mist. By comparison of sample means of paired observations, differences were found to be significant at one percent level. The mist system was 2.5 feet above soil level. The lines were 120 feet long. In 1963, the South Dakota State Legislature passed a supplemental portion to the minimum foundation law. This section of the law1 provides support to school districts on a formula of equalization base on an individual school district’s need and effort. The law limits the amount of equalization support distribution to $2,000,000. In 1963, when the law was passed, foundation payment computations were not available on every district. Information necessary to evaluate the foundation program became available to educators and legislators in 1964 when payment were computed to districts for the first time. Two basic types of fluid motion are known, laminar and turbulent flow. Laminar flow is characterized by essentially uniform flow of fluid particles and obedience to Newton’s Viscosity Law, ¬ƒ=µdu/dy. Many fluids have been found to have dynamic viscosities (µ) which are essentially constant and are considered to be properties of the fluid. The viscosities of gases can even be derived by the kinetic theory of gases and are found to be functions of the mean free path of individual molecules. Since the early 1940’s there have been few experiments dealing directly with line width, and even fewer studies dealing with the effect of line width on productions output differences. However, there has been considerable speculation, and many hypotheses, about these differences. In a 1969 study, Leicht studied output differences on manually operated typesetting machines, using 11 picas and 15 picas.30 In the same year, Nuckols investigated comparative reading times using the same measures.31 These studies supported the hypotheses of the Louisville Courier-Journal that a 15-pica line width make for a more readable newspaper, and that type can be set manually …

Thirty-three percent of the animals which comprised the fed slaughter market in 1966 were heifers (U.S.D.S., 1967). When heifers are compared to steers, the gain at a slower rate, require more feed under similar feeding systems and sell at a lower price. These are important economic considerations in view of the large number of heifers fed for slaughter. The meat from heifers has been shown to be equal to that of steers in eating quality. It, however, sells at a lower price because heifer carcasses tend to be fatter and to have more waste as fat trim than steer carcasses …

The purpose of this investigation was to determine if an individual high school wrestler’s anxiety measures would serve as an indicator of his match performance. The subjects were thirty-one varsity wrestlers who were in attendance at Brookings High School, Brookings, South Dakota, during the academic year 1966-1967. The top twenty-four wrestlers, as determined by weekly competitive challenge matches, received alternate forms of the IPAT 8-Parallel-Form Anxiety Battery forty minutes prior to the “A” and “B” teams’ competitive performances in all home wrestling matches. These tests were administered in order to measure the anxiety levels of subjects in a stress situation. …

The object of this thesis is to examine a basic deficiency in the valence bond theory as developed by Heitler, London, Slater and Eyring and to offer an alternate general approach that leads to a greater reduction of the secular determinant for some molecular structures. It is observed that in the formation of independent valance bond eigenfunctions, there exists an implicit assumption that one is working with planar or near-planar molecules. But when a polyhedral structure is considered, it is found that the independent valence bond eigenfunctions are no longer suitable basis functions for the symmetry group of the structure. …

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of mental practice, mental-physical practice, and physical practice on the acquisition and development of the motor skill of triple jumping for novice performers. The following procedure was employed: Thirty-six male volunteer freshman students at South Dakota State University were placed into three groups equated by their ability to perform the running long jump. The subjects in the three groups participated in a six-week training program, during which they met three times a week. A training session consisted of 10 triple jumps physically. Capital accumulation is possible by diversion of a portion of present production from consumption into production of capital goods. The purpose of this investigation was to determine whether a running program significantly influences the cardiorespiratory efficiency of conditioned wrestlers and to compare continuous running and interval running as methods of increasing the cardio-respiratory efficiency of conditioned wrestlers. Eighteen of the 19 members of the freshman wrestling squad at South Dakota State University, Spring Semester 1967, volunteered as subjects. Tuberculosis is still one of the major threats to the health of mankind. Attempts to find suitable chemotherapeutic agents for tuberculosis date almost from the time that Koch (1, 2, 3) announced the discovery of the etiological agent of this disease. The earlier work has been reviewed by Long (3, 18). The modern chemotherapeutic era, however, began when Rich and Follis (3, 29) demonstrated that sulfa-nilamide exerted a light suppressive effect on the course of experimental tuberculosis in guinea pigs.
