Evaluation Of Pasture Systems And Grain Levels For Growing Beef Cattle With Prediction Equations For Estimating Animal Performance, Steven C. Fransen Jan 1982

Evaluation Of Pasture Systems And Grain Levels For Growing Beef Cattle With Prediction Equations For Estimating Animal Performance, Steven C. Fransen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A three-year grazing study evaluated native, native-interseeded range and a tame grass pasture production, quality and animal performance. Animal production and performance were evaluated with yearling steers fed corn daily at zero, 0.5 and 1.0 percent of body weight. Interseeding alfalfa into native rangelands enhanced sod-forming over bunch grasses and allowed alfalfa to become the dominant species. Alfalfa was not selectively graved in the interseeded range and in 1978 contributed 35 percent of the dry matter yield during the spring and summer. Forage quality declined with maturity; IVDMD and CP decreased while ADF, NDF, lignin and silica all increased with …

Evaluation Of A Power Plant Reservoir As A Holding Area For Paddlefish Brood Stock, Terry L. Margenau Jan 1982

Evaluation Of A Power Plant Reservoir As A Holding Area For Paddlefish Brood Stock, Terry L. Margenau

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Twenty paddlefish (Polyodon spathula) released into the Big Stone Power Plant boiler make-up reservoir were monitored to determine growth, condition, and food habits. In addition, fish and zooplankton populations were sampled and chemical and physical parameters measured to determine the potential of the reservoir as a holding area for paddlefish brood stock. Paddlefish captured during the first year after their release into the boiler make-up reservoir averaged 2.2 kg body weight increases and 59 mm eye-fork length increases. Condition factors of captured paddlefish also increased during this period from 1.26 to 1.49. Paddlefish food in the reservoir consisted almost entirely …

Identification Of Various Incest-Associated Indicators Within Families, Mary Kay Helling Jan 1982

Identification Of Various Incest-Associated Indicators Within Families, Mary Kay Helling

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Incest is a human behavior recorded in past and recent history. Behaviors labeled as incestuous vary greatly, ranging from sexual intercourse to intimate touching to display of sexual organs to verbal expression of sexual interest. For the purpose of this study, incest is defined as sexual activity among family members. More specifically, sexual activity is defined as either intercourse / or intimate touching or petting. Family members are either blood relatives or relatives through marriage or adoption (i.e. stepfathers or stepmothers). Throughout history, incest has typically been considered a taboo behavior. The taboo appears to be universal, yet various cultures …

Effects Of Site Preparation On Survival And Growth Of Planted Loblolly Pine, John Gorham Dec 1981

Effects Of Site Preparation On Survival And Growth Of Planted Loblolly Pine, John Gorham

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Effects of site preparation on survival and growth of planted loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) on a loblolly-shortleaf pine-hardwood forest site in East Texas are examined by determining the survival and growth of planted loblolly pine, soil chemical characteristics, and density and height of competing (non-pine) woody stems. Three replications of four site preparation treatments (control, burn, chop, KG blade) resulted in the KG bladed plots having the highest survival, height, and diameter, but the lowest nutrient levels while, also, most effectively controlling competing vegetation. This tends to indicate that the advantages in the initial survival and growth on the …

Guidelines For Planning Facilities For The Adult Learner, Constance S. Hale Dec 1981

Guidelines For Planning Facilities For The Adult Learner, Constance S. Hale

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to survey selected existing facilities and to develop guidelines for planning facilities for the adult learner. The following subproblems were identified in order to adequately treat the problem: (1) To describe selected facilities for the adult learner; (2) To identify those elements considered essential, highly desirable, and significant in planning a facility for the adult learner. Four research questions were considered to be relevant to this study: (1) What were the most prevalent needs of the adult learner? (2) What facilities for the adult learner are in existence now? (3) What recommendations are given …
