Evaluation Of Gravel Excavation On Ground Water Movement And Quality, Nilaksh Kothari
Evaluation Of Gravel Excavation On Ground Water Movement And Quality, Nilaksh Kothari
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The resource ground water is used by nearly one-half the nation's population for drinking purposes, and 70% of all ground water used is for irrigation. Yet, surprisingly protection of the ground water resource is not covered by a single federal act. Consequently, ground water is a subject of widespread misconceptions. These misconceptions have adversely affected the development, conservation and quality of the ground water. In the mining areas detailed information on the hydrologic environment is needed due to recent mining regulations. In Brookings county of South Dakota, large scale gravel excavations have occurred during the last twenty years. These excavations …

Plasma Pepsinogen Test For Hypobiotic Nematode Larvae In Abomasal Glands Of Sheep, Richard Alex Jensen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The American Association of Veterinary Parasitologists reported that nematodes in sheep represent an unquestionably great production loss, and that the absence of deworming on a routine basis would hamper modern sheep production. After ingestion, the infective third stage larva, or L3, exsheaths and burrows into the digestive glands, and becomes a fourth stage larva, or L4. According to Armour, 18 to 21 days after L3 ingestion occurs, the nematode reaches sexual maturity. However, while in the gastric glands, these L4 invade the parietal, or hydrochloric acid (HCl) secreting cells, damaging them, and replacing them with non-acid secreting cells. This leads …

The Effect Of Various Proteins And Amino Acids On Salenium Toxicity To Rats Fed Corn-Based Or Wheat-Based Diets, Ailene Annette Herr
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Selenium occurs in the earth's crust in varying concentrations. It is crystallochemically related to sulfur, and sulfide ores frequently contain selenium. The commercial production of selenium is usually as a by-product of other mining operations, especially copper mining. It occurs in different oxidation states depending on the pH of the soils. At acidic pHs the predominate form is selenite. That present as selenite is bound to a high degree by iron colloids in soils and is thus not readily absorbed by plants. Once taken up by plants selenium becomes, to varying degrees, available to animals. Selenium can be either harmful …

A Comparison Of Leadership Styles Between College And University Administrators Of Physical Education In The United States And Korea, Kwang Min Cho
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Any certain leadership style cannot be the best for all situations and circumstances. Marshall and Frost indicate that "a person might be an effective leader in one set of circumstances, at a given moment in history, with a specific group of people, yet fail miserably at another time with a different task to perform''. Schein also pointed out that the effective leader "must have the personal flexibility and range of skill necessary to vary his own behavior. If the needs and motives of his subordinates are different, they must be treated differently". Thus, leaders may not be effective unless they …

Cheese whey is a by-product of the dairy industry and contains approximately 5% lactose, 0. 9% nitrogenous compounds, and small amounts of vitamins and minerals. It has often been treated as waste. In addition to the loss of these nutrients, its disposal creates pollution problems. Lactose which is the chief nutrient in whey, could be more profitably utilized by being converted into ethanol. Unfortunately, naturally occurring strains of brewer’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) are unable to metabolize lactose and hence cannot convert it to ethanol. The overall objectives of my study were: 1.) To construct a S. cerevisiae - Escherichia coli …
