A Comparison Of Nurses' Attitudes Concerning Therapeutic Ward Atmosphere With Those Of Other Members Of The Multi-Disciplinary Treatment Team, Barbara Brown
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The atmosphere of a psychiatric hospital ward has been found to have an influence on patient behavior and on treatment outcome. The ward atmosphere is affected by the patients, the multi—disciplinary team and the nurse who is the team member who spends the greatest amount of time on the ward. A multi-disciplinary team which shares similar attitudes concerning ward atmosphere is more likely to create a therapeutic ward atmosphere.
The multi-disciplinary teams of three adult psychiatric units at a midwestem psychiatric hospital were subject of a research study regarding their attitudes concerning therapeutic ward atmosphere. The scores, of team members …

Attenuation Of Antagonist-Induced Impairment Of Dopamine Receptors By L-Prolyl - L-Leucyl-Glycinamide, Mohamad I. Saleh
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It has been shown by others that the prenatal treatment of rats with haloperidol, a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist, leads to a permanent reduction in the number of striatal dopamine D2 receptors in adulthood. Conversely, postnatal treatment of lactating dams with haloperidol from birth for 21 days, leads to an increase in the number of striatal dopamine D2 receptors in the litters, when assessed as adults. The present study was undertaken in order to determine whether chronic, long-term postnatal challenge of rat pups per se, with specific dopamine D1 and D2 receptor antagonists, would modify the ontogeny of the respective …

Wetland Characteristics Of Avian Cholera Outbreaks And Surface Water Transfer In The Nebraska Rainwater Basin Area, Brian J. Smith
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Avian Cholera (Pateurella multocida) has infected and killed thousands of migrating waterfowl each year since 1975 in Nebraska’s rainwater basin area. Disease outbreaks in migrating waterfowl populations just prior to the nesting season are of concern to biologists. Feedlots and itner-wetland basin surface water transfer mechanisms of the avian cholera causative agent, P. multocida, were investigated using remote sensing techniques. Wetland basin characteristics (classification type, adjacent landuse, basin landuse, and basin densities) were also investigated for relationships to 1981 avian cholera outbreaks. No surface drainage relationships were found that would permit the transfer of P. multocida from one wetland basin …

Hard Water : Occurrence, Health Effects, And Consumer Drinking Practices In Brookings And Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Hock Chin Wong
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In light of the probable benefits of drinking hard water, it would be anticipated that wherever hard water is available, dwellings would be plumbed to provide this water to the drinking tap. However, casual surveys in certain South Dakota communities had revealed that the plumbing is arranged in some dwellings so that drinking water available at the tap has been subjected to on-site softening. As a result, the water consumer has not only been deprived of the benefits of drinking hard water, but also subjected to the health hazards of drinking high-sodium water from ionexchange softeners. The primary objective of …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There are a number of payments systems in the U.S. These include Fedwire, Clearing House Interbank Payments System (CHIPS) and Automated Clearing House (ACH). Although the Federal Reserve administers only Fedwire and ACH, it might also have to rescue CHIPS as a creditor of last resort. There have been concerns that some of the procedures adopted by these payments systems could impose risks on the systems. The first concern is the credit risk that these systems assume by allowing receivers to get funds immediately while senders can settle the net differences until the end of the day at no cost …
