The Relationship Of Presidential Leadership Style And The Financial Health Of Private, Nonproprietary Institutions Of Higher Learning, Sandra E. Seay

The primary purpose of this study was to determine if a relationship existed between the financial health of academic institutions and the leadership style of college and university presidents. Financial health was defined as the ability of an institution to pay its current debts. Secondly, the study tested a number of hypotheses derived from the contingency model of leadership effectiveness. Lastly, the study attempted to determine if there was an association between two lists of institutions considered to be led by effective presidents. The problem of this study was to identify and describe the individual learning activities of caregivers of people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and to develop an analytical description of the patterns of learning of these adults. An instrument was not available for use; therefore, a focused interview guide was developed. The interview guide was developed through consultation with several spouses or adult children caring for Alzheimer's patients, professionals in the health care field, and a review of the literature. A Comparison Of Two Hypnotic Methods For Achieving And Maintaining Abstinence From Smoking, Ronald Lee Lutz

Although many different approaches, including hypnosis, are used to help cigarette smokers quit, a review of the literature indicates that no one treatment outperforms any other in preventing relapse and promoting long-term abstinence.

One technique which has been used in a limited way to prevent relapse is the programmed relapse episode. Some research suggests that the use of a programmed relapse with cigarette smokers trying to quit may actually increase the likelihood of relapse. This study hypothesized that one way to obtain the possible instructional benefits of a programmed relapse without precipitating actual relapse may be to employ a hypnotically …

The purpose of this paper was to explore the influence individual and organizational factors exerted on technological innovations, programmatic innovations and combined technological and programmatic innovations. Student affairs divisions in Comprehensive I colleges and universities constituted the administrative unit examined. The two types of program innovations examined were substance abuse prevention/education programs and retention/academic support programs. The technological innovations examined were financial aid computerized award calculation and computerized career counseling. The individual factors examined were professionalism, gender and age of the chief student affairs officer. Determinants Of Infant Feeding Practices : A Preliminary Ethnographic Study In Rural Nigeria, Saba Mebrahtu

This thesis examines qualitative data on cropping systems (crop production, processing, and marketing), intra-household dynamics (gender labor allocation and decision making), and infant feeding behaviors (perceptions of infant nutrition and health, and infant feeding practices). This report is based on a three-month ethnographic assessment of 54 households and 18 key informants. It is the preliminary phase of a seven-month, semi-longitudinal, quantitative project investigating relationships between cropping patterns, household time allocation, and infant nutrition. This preliminary ethnography was undertaken by the author and two field assistants, from February to April 1987, in rural Oyo and Kwara, Nigeria. Infant mortality is high …
