Factors Affecting The Seasonality Of Marketing Manufacturing Milk In Eastern South Dakota, Larry Gene Traub Feb 1968

Factors Affecting The Seasonality Of Marketing Manufacturing Milk In Eastern South Dakota, Larry Gene Traub

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The problems involved in the marketing of milk are numerous and often complex. One problem facing both the South Dakota producer and processor is the seasonality in production and marketing of manufacturing milk. This has been a problem of long standing in the dairy industry. The fluid milk industry has made some progress in bringing about a more even flow of milk to the market through the various price incentive programs. Seasonal pricing has played a leading role. Little has been done, however, to alleviate the problem in the manufactured milk segment of the industry. . . . The specific …

Content Of Two Upper Midwest Farm Magazines As Related To Major Types Of Farming In South Dakota, Frank J. Shideler

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The objectives of this study are to determine (1) differences in subject matter in two Midwestern farm magazines, and (2) how these magazines conformed to reader needs, based on the assumption that these needs are a reflection of the traditional types of agriculture in the area served by the publications. The magazines used in this study are: The Dakota Farmer, Aberdeen, South Dakota, and The Farmer., St. Paul, Minnesota. Comparisons, when draw, are designed to indicate a point rather than to judge or intimate that one of the magazines is better than the other. To further emphasize this point of …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to survey physical education teachers who have taught under modular scheduling in order to determine whether or not differences exist between teachers' reactions of three strata (size of school studied) as they relate to the physical education teacher, the physical education program, and the organization of that program. The following areas were studied: (1) large-group instruction; (2) small-group discussion; (3) laboratory periods; (4) team teaching; (5) individual and independent study; and (6) teachers' opinions of techniques employed under modular scheduling. The following procedure was employed: Three hundred thirty questionnaires were sent to physical education …

The Mechanism Of Nucleophilic Substitution At Phosphorus, Edward Albert Schmidt Jan 1968

The Mechanism Of Nucleophilic Substitution At Phosphorus, Edward Albert Schmidt

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Many of the early attempts to determine the mechanism of nucleophilic substitution at phosphorus were based on the use of optically active compounds. Much of this work proved to be unsuccessful because of the difficulty.in obtaining the compounds, and their tendency to racemize or decompose during the reactions or workup. In the present work, a system has been developed that does not depend on optically active compounds.

Preliminary Investigation Of A New Frequency Modulator, David A. Cleveland Jan 1968

Preliminary Investigation Of A New Frequency Modulator, David A. Cleveland

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Communication is an inherent characteristic of the human species. Man has continually strived to improve his methods of communicating with his fellow man. With the understanding of electricity and its subsequent control, a powerful tool became available; one important use of this tool is in the field of communications. First applications of electricity to communications involved physical connections between sending and receiving instruments. When scientists desired to eliminate the direct connections between the communicators, new methods had to be devised. The new methods which were developed involved the transmission of electromagnetic energy through space. One of the basic electrical waveforms …

An Estimation Of Some Effects On Personal Income And Business Activity Resulting From Feasible Irrigation Development In Eastern And Central South Dakota, Thormod Christensen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Measures of irrigation development can be estimated from the viewpoint of the nation, the region, the state, or the firm. This study originates from the state and especially the local area effects of irrigation development estimated to be feasible for farms. The concern of this study is a systematic examination of the changes in personal income and the associated changes in business activity of the related retail trade and service enterprises. The proposal of this study is to examine this complementary relationship in terms of the impact from a determined level of irrigation development on trade and service establishments in …

The Counselor's Role As Perceived By Administrators, Counselors, And Teacher-Counselors In South Dakota High Schools, Darlene Mulder Prashar

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The role of the counselor in the secondary school is not always well understood. Confusion and poor communication about the degree of responsibility for various activities may interfere with effective work. Guidance programs in secondary schools are confronted with many problems. Possibly, the lack of understanding of the role of the counselor, plus the opinions and attitudes of the school personnel, are hindering the effectiveness of guidance programs in many of the secondary schools of South Dakota. With the Wrenn Report, the American Personnel and Guidance Association gave impetus to guidance programs in American schools by better defining the school …

Life History And Ecology Of The Black-Footed Ferret In The Wild, Conrad N. Hillman Jan 1968

Life History And Ecology Of The Black-Footed Ferret In The Wild, Conrad N. Hillman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Twenty-one black-footed ferrets (Mustela nigripes) were observed at six different locations in southwest South Dakota between April 1966, and September 1967. All observations were made on black-tailed prairie-dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) towns from 15 to 100 acres in size. Because of the proximity of towns inhabited by ferrets, it was possible that individual animals were observed in more than one location. Three litters of ferrets were studied. Young ferrets were most active during early morning and late evening hours. Ferrets remained as a group until early fall when dispersal evidently occurred. Young ferrets accepted live-tethered and dead prairie dogs, mice, cottontails …

Fishes Of The Big Sioux River, James A. Sinning Jan 1968

Fishes Of The Big Sioux River, James A. Sinning

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

An understanding of the fishes and limnology of a river is essential to the effective management of the river. The climate, soils, and agricultural practices in eastern South Dakota create unusual characteristics in rivers draining that area. One of the principal rivers of the area is the Big Sioux River. Fishes of this river were first studied about 1900 by Meek and by Everman and Cox (Bailey and Allum, 1962). A later survey by Churchill and Over (1933) apparently included the Big Sioux River, but collection data were inadequate for detailed comparisons. Since that time collections of fishes were made …

A Historical Analysis And Comparative Classification Of The Use Of Computers In The Typographic Industry, Harvey R. Levenson Jan 1968

A Historical Analysis And Comparative Classification Of The Use Of Computers In The Typographic Industry, Harvey R. Levenson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Although developments of the past several decades confirm a revolutionary expansion of graphic arts technology, the printing industry has traditionally been known for its lack of technological progress. It is frequently stated that printing techniques, until recently, were considered to be approximately 50 years behind other industries with regard to technological advancement. Such conditions were particularly true in the area of typesetting. To witness the unprogressive implements being used, all one had to do was visit a typica1 composing room entangled with the awkward mechanisms of conventional Linotypes, Intertypes, and other similar typesetting devices. Such composing systems are steadily becoming …

Response: A Study Of The Genesis, Nature, And Meaning Of The Aural Imagery In Henry Vaughan's Silex Scintillans, Lavonne Niklason Jan 1968

Response: A Study Of The Genesis, Nature, And Meaning Of The Aural Imagery In Henry Vaughan's Silex Scintillans, Lavonne Niklason

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The traditional symbols of the Christian life of prayer are readily discoverable in Silex Scintillans, the poetic record of one man's quest for God; they both constitute its deepest meaning and establish its proper context. It is, however, clear that the poet, Henry Vaughan, has embodied these universal symbols in patterns of his own arrangement. In this arrangement, the poetic imagery, which forms the patterns by which the symbolism is understood, is of exceptional importance to his poems in its inspiration, structure, effect, and meaning. The poet’s individual vision, communicated by his imagery, encompasses a world of marked Christian contrasts: …

Mannitol Induced Renal Alterations In Rabbits, William R. Taggart Jan 1968

Mannitol Induced Renal Alterations In Rabbits, William R. Taggart

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Mannitol, an alcohol of six carbon sugar-mannose, has a molecular weight of 182.17. It has the inability to enter the tricarboxylic acid cycle which makes mannitol a physiological stable compound. This chemical structure, physical and physiological properties of mannitol are listed in figure 1 Barry, (1963). The clinical use of mannitol as a therapeutic agent has been validated many times in the literature. The utilization of mannitol as a prophylactic measure in prevention of acute renal failure following surgery or trauma has been reported by many authorities. Before recently many surgeons have selected the utilization of mannitol rather than urea …

A Study Of Selected Factors Associated With Members Attitudes Toward Their Churches In The Aberdeen Area Of South Dakota, Hadley G. Klug

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The church has been and still is one of the most important social institutions of our society. Although church membership is growing throughout the nation as a whole, there are areas where the rate of growth is decreasing or where there is a decline in membership. These areas are predominantly rural and are characterized by a decrease in rural population, a high rate of out-migration, and an increase in the size of farms, South Dakota is one of these areas. While the membership of the churches of South Dakota is increasing, this increase is taking place largely in the urban …

A Comparative Analysis Of Advertising Agencies And Commercial Printing Companies To Determine The Relationship Between Employee Education Level And Implementation Of Participative Decision Making, Richard J. Huff Jan 1968

A Comparative Analysis Of Advertising Agencies And Commercial Printing Companies To Determine The Relationship Between Employee Education Level And Implementation Of Participative Decision Making, Richard J. Huff

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The subject of investigation for this study involves a segment of human relations. An understanding of the entire field of human relations is essential for justification of the finding which relate to the particular segment. The area of human relations of concern in this study involves a theory often called “participative decision making.” It is the theory which is dependent upon other closely related areas. Motivation, satisfaction and other factors which are prevalent in personal fulfillment are important things to consider in relation to the theory. Because of interdependence, one must relate research concerning participative decision making to other areas …

An Investigation Of The Employment Of Multiple Objectives In Water Resources Planning, Robert Rehm Werner Jan 1968

An Investigation Of The Employment Of Multiple Objectives In Water Resources Planning, Robert Rehm Werner

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A number of objectives in water resources development have been identified historically, but planning practice has adhered most closely to economic efficiency. A question of growing concern is whether or not the conscious inclusion of multiple objectives simultaneously in water resources planning can result in the formulation of plans closer to an optimum in the satisfaction of peoples’ total desires than does a plan which optimizes the objective of economic efficiency or other single objective. The purpose of this study was to determine if the explicit employment of multiple objectives in water resources planning represents a strengthening of capability to …

Comparative Gross And Histologic Anatomy Of The Gastrointestinal Tract Of Pronghorn Antelope And Domestic Sheep, James A. Raney

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The relationship between the domesticated sheep, Ovis aries, and the pronghorn antelope, Antilocapra americana americana, is close enough to validate a comparative gastrointestinal tract analysis (Table 1). This analysis is intended to compare and describe the various parts of the gastrointestinal tract of each species in the order of their occurrence from the esophagus through the rectum. . . . An attempt was made in this study to compare the gastrointestinal tract of the sheep and the pronghorn antelope, using the sheep as a guide because of its similarity and availability. The purpose of this study is not to prove …
