Kentucky's 1935 Gubernatorial Election., Olivia M. Frederick
Kentucky's 1935 Gubernatorial Election., Olivia M. Frederick
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis deals with the events and issues which were connected with the 1935 gubernatorial election. There is first a brief sketch of Kentucky politics prior to the 1935 election. Particular interest is given to the history of the Democratic party and the split which occurred in it at the turn of the century. A great deal of attention is given to the factional struggles which occurred in the period between 1931 and 1935. The controversy and drive for a primary law is discussed in detail. Because of the nature of the primary law enacted in 1935 two primary elections …
A Critical Comparison Of The Restitution Motifs Of The Campbells (1809-1830) And The Anabaptists (1524-1560), Richard Thomas Hughes
A Critical Comparison Of The Restitution Motifs Of The Campbells (1809-1830) And The Anabaptists (1524-1560), Richard Thomas Hughes
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Many students have been impressed with the restitutionist character of the Radical Reformation and have observed certain similarities between that movement and the Restoration movement in America. The primary problem and purposes of this study are therefore twofold: (1) Were the two movements really similar, and if so, to what extent? (2) If both groups started with essentially the same presuppositions regarding the Scriptures, the church that was to be restored, and the method of restitution, how should one account for any differences that existed in practice?

An Analysis Of The Production Output Difference Between An 11-Pica And A 15-Pica Line Width When Type Is Set By The Tts Method, Larry E. Rolufs
An Analysis Of The Production Output Difference Between An 11-Pica And A 15-Pica Line Width When Type Is Set By The Tts Method, Larry E. Rolufs
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since the early 1940’s there have been few experiments dealing directly with line width, and even fewer studies dealing with the effect of line width on productions output differences. However, there has been considerable speculation, and many hypotheses, about these differences. In a 1969 study, Leicht studied output differences on manually operated typesetting machines, using 11 picas and 15 picas.30 In the same year, Nuckols investigated comparative reading times using the same measures.31 These studies supported the hypotheses of the Louisville Courier-Journal that a 15-pica line width make for a more readable newspaper, and that type can be set manually …
The Nature And The Influence Of The Work Of The Information And Education Section, South Dakota Department Of Game, Fish And Parks, Edward Riedl
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This paper deals with a study of an organization whose responsibility is to inform and educate people. This is a study of the program of the Information and Education Section, South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks. There is much confusion connected with the terms “public relations,” “publicity,” and “public information.” Definitions of these terms will result in a better understanding of this study. Emery, Ault and Agee define public relations, “as the planned effort to influence and maintain favorable opinion through acceptable performance, honestly presented, and with reliance on two-way communications.”1 Public relations is also a management function. …
Incomplete Neurological Development As A Root Of Reading Problems: A Classroom Teacher's Approach, Helen B. Prokes
Incomplete Neurological Development As A Root Of Reading Problems: A Classroom Teacher's Approach, Helen B. Prokes
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Incomplete neurological development as a root of reading problems is a concept that could revolutionize our system of education. It could guide us to treating the “disease” rather than the symptoms. It could save us much “beating of the air” in our use of methods. It could modify our demands that learning take place in developmental infancy. At least, that is the theory of Dr. Carl H. Delacato2 and his associates in their Developmental Reading Program at Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their motivation stems from the conviction that “reading problems need not exist at all because they can …
The Ecology Of The Nitrogen-Fixing Azotobacter And Klebsiella In Selected South Dakota Lakes, Paul A. Gillespie
The Ecology Of The Nitrogen-Fixing Azotobacter And Klebsiella In Selected South Dakota Lakes, Paul A. Gillespie
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The importance of nitrogen in an aquatic ecosystem is quite well known. Nitrogen, being originally derived from the atmosphere, enters into a complex cycle involving both the plant and animal components of the ecosystem. The nitrogenous compounds of natural waters may be broken down into the main categories according to their source, either allochthones or autochthonous. Allochthones nitrogen is that derived from the outside sources and includes those compounds carried into the lake by precipitation, by surface runoff containing terrestrial nitrogen, or by the inflow of ground water. Autochthonous nitrogenous compounds are those which result from the fixation of elemental …

Development Of Basketball Shooting Accuracy As Affected By Varying Goal Sizes, Timothy Brown Fisk
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the development of basketball shooting accuracy as affected by varying goal sizes. Thirty-seven male freshman students at South Dakota State University were divided into three experimental groups and a control group. The subjects in the experimental groups participated in a five-week training program wherein they shot baskets either at an accuracy rim, a regulation basket, or a combination of the regulation basket and the accuracy rim. All subjects were tested at the beginning of the investigation and at the completion of the training program. Shooting accuracy consisting of 55 shots attempted at …
A Method For Characterizing The Noise Produced By An Agricultural Tractor In Terms Of The Acoustic Power And Directivity, Tom Shepherd Chisholm
A Method For Characterizing The Noise Produced By An Agricultural Tractor In Terms Of The Acoustic Power And Directivity, Tom Shepherd Chisholm
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In agriculture, as in the civic, military and industrial areas, excessive noise is a problem that must be recognized. Tentative criteria have been established that specify the maximum noise levels that people can be exposed to for various time periods without receiving permanent hearing damage. In many cases, the noise produced at the operator’s location by agricultural machines is considerably above the maximum safe level for continuous daily exposure. The seriousness of the problem is further emphasized when it is realized that many young men in their teens are operating agricultural machines. The hearing damage that they receive will be …
Consumer Evaluation Of A New Low-Fat Spread-Type Dairy Product, Walter W. Wosje
Consumer Evaluation Of A New Low-Fat Spread-Type Dairy Product, Walter W. Wosje
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
For many years the dairy industry has been going through transitional period whereby many marketing and structural changes have resulted. Generally speaking, these changes have been advantageous to the dairy farmer. During the past years there has been a widespread and increasing interest in profitable means of utilization of dairy by-products. Because of their unique and high nutritional value, the most logical method of disposition of these by-products is, from the standpoint of the general welfare, in human food; generally this is also the most gainful method. The high nutritional value of these products also makes them valuable in feeding …

Effects Of Orally Administered Sodium D-Thyroxine Upon Pregnancy Progression In Euthyroid Rabbits And Its Effect Upon The Newborn, Gary A. Thibodeau
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Many authorities believe that prophylactic treatment of idiopathic hypercholesterolemia will prevent atherosclerosis and plaque formation which almost always precedes clinical arteriosclerosis and subsequent degenerative heart disease. There has been intensive research investigation initiated to provide a pharmacologic agent that will lower elevated serum cholesterol levels in mammals including humans. Several hypocholesterolemic drugs are being tested at the present time, one of the most promising is the dextro-rotary isomer of thyroxine. This study was conducted not only to determine the effects of orally administered dextrothyroxine on pregnancy progression, but also to provide information for further investigations concerning alterations related to hypercholesterolemic …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The relative importance of this study is characterized by the following pertinent considerations: (1) the inability of communities to absorb unskilled labor, (2) the lack of salable skills of the high school graduates, (3) the prohibitive cost of providing vocational education on the necessary level to develop adequate skills, (4) the school drop-out problem, (5) the limited vocational education provided by the smaller school, (6) the industrial opportunities that can be provided by the larger cities of the state and (7) the need for a practical method of creating the necessary school entity. The economic make-up of the communities within …
On The Nature Of Some Selenium Losses From Soils And Waters, Ghaleb Musa Abu-Erreish
On The Nature Of Some Selenium Losses From Soils And Waters, Ghaleb Musa Abu-Erreish
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Selenium is of interest to the animal nutritionists and to the biochemist from two standpoints. In some areas of the world it occurs in soils in excesses, and the plants growing in these soils contain levels of the element that are toxic to livestock that consume the plants. On the other hand, selenium appears to be essential to the well-being of certain animals, at least under some feeding regimens, and in a number of areas the soils produce feeds that are deficient in the element (48). In either case, an understanding of the cycling of selenium in nature is essential …

A Comparison Of The Social Criticism In Melville's Typee And Thoreau's Walden, Mary Riedy
A Comparison Of The Social Criticism In Melville's Typee And Thoreau's Walden, Mary Riedy
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Herman Melville and Henry David Thoreau are two of the most original American authors who appeared during the first half of the nineteenth century. Although the writings of both Melville and Thoreau have been examined extensively in scholarship, little has been done in the way of attempting a comparison of their work. In fact, Melville and Thoreau was an avowed member of the Transcendentalist movement, which Melville openly opposed.1 There are, indeed, many dissimilarities between the two writers. Thoreau belonged to the Concord group of authors, while Melville did not. Melville was primarily a novelist while Thoreau’s prose works were …
