Heater Embedded Heat Sink/Cold Plate For Thermal Interface Material (Tim) Heating, N/A
Heater Embedded Heat Sink/Cold Plate For Thermal Interface Material (Tim) Heating, N/A
Defensive Publications Series
A phase change material (PCM) is used as thermal interface material (TIM) to mount a heat sink or cold plate on an electronic chip. The TIM can improve thermal conductivity and heat dissipation between the semiconductor chip and heat sinks. In the manufacturing process, the PCM is heated right after heat sink/cold plate installation during which it undergoes melting or softening, effectively filling the air gaps between the chip and the surface of the heat sink or cold plate. The heating of the PCM can be performed using passive heating or active heating, which requires wasteful heating of the entire …

Managing Spatial Affinity For Edge Application Development And Deployment, Myungjin Lee, Brianna Marie Barrow, Ramana Kompella
Managing Spatial Affinity For Edge Application Development And Deployment, Myungjin Lee, Brianna Marie Barrow, Ramana Kompella
Defensive Publications Series
Current approaches for associating edge devices with the correct application instance as edge devices are on the move often require changing end device configuration/policy, which can be inefficient and burdensome. In order to address such issues, techniques proposed herein provide a library of tools, including an affinity manager, to enable scalable edge application development, deployment and management. The affinity manager facilitates communication between service instances and edge devices by registering service instances and providing edge device with information on the service instances. When an edge device moves to a new area, the proposed techniques leverage a local area translation function …
Intelligent Provisioning Of Digital Experience Monitoring Agents Based On Observed Network Service Flows, Jay Kuhne, Peter Clayton-Luce, Steve Holl
Intelligent Provisioning Of Digital Experience Monitoring Agents Based On Observed Network Service Flows, Jay Kuhne, Peter Clayton-Luce, Steve Holl
Defensive Publications Series
Current network observability discovery and design of network monitoring tools for a network operator is often dependent upon the analysis of a network configuration and anecdotal input from the operator indicating their perceived service-level assurance needs. Specifically, the placement of monitoring agents within a network for such designs is fairly subjective and may not be reflective of the actual usage patterns and utilization of the network for traffic initiated by end-users or applications. This proposal leverages actual network behavior in order to generate recommendations for agent placement, as well as to optimize agent placement and, optionally, to auto-deploy an agent …

Current large language model (LLM)-based platforms offer interactive user experiences with limited personalization. Although these LLM-based platforms can leverage publicly available and trained data to provide contextual responses to user queries, they cannot securely leverage private data about the user to personalize the experience. As a result, current systems lack the ability to provide context-sensitive and personalized content that meets specific user requirements or preferences. Moreover, robust privacy safeguards are needed to properly leverage and optimize a user’s private data for content delivery. To address these issues, proposed herein are techniques for providing an application programming interface (API) service that …

In some scanning printers one possible image quality issues is dark light zone banding, where regions whose intended tone is constant smoothly (rather than abruptly) oscillate in lightness, with a period equal to the media advance. The causes behind it can differ and depend on the type of ink and substrate. For some types of inks, drying can also play a crucial role. The printing process must be robust against dot-placement variations, including those due to variations in media advance, and ink-media interactions. The ink on media interaction in particular can also be correlated to the drying performance, to have …

LTE Cat-M1 is a Low-Power, Wide-Area Network (LP-WAN) designed specifically for purpose-built devices (like trackers) that transmit small to medium amounts of data over wide ranges.
While implementing the LTE Cat-M1 into the laptop, it would periodically report the position and device status to the cloud server even the laptop is in power save mode (S4/S5) without OS operation.
In this disclosure, we are going to further enhance the low power feature, minimize the total amount of data transfer (within a fixed period), and further enhance the trajectory accuracy of Cat-M1 module in the laptop.
Expediting Evpn Bgp Graceful Restart Using Route Type Info In End Of Rib Messages, Anonymous
Expediting Evpn Bgp Graceful Restart Using Route Type Info In End Of Rib Messages, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
This innovation solves issues in EVPN BGP Graceful Restart (GR) by adding EVPN Route type Information in a BGP update carrying an End of RIB (EOR) message in such a way that BGP speaker sends separate EOR for each EVPN Route Type, enables faster convergence. The Normal EOR message does not selectively work on EVPN Route Type. This adds delay in BGP GR convergence. Since some EVPN route types are part of different BGP RIB tables, it is more logical to have separate EORs for different Route Types.

Diffractive Waveguide Grating For Improved Image Sharpness In Augmented Reality Displays, Thomas Hoekman, Jun Yang
Diffractive Waveguide Grating For Improved Image Sharpness In Augmented Reality Displays, Thomas Hoekman, Jun Yang
Defensive Publications Series
Diffractive, waveguide-based, augmented-reality displays couple light from a light engine into an optical waveguide while enabling environmental light to enter the eye. Phase discontinuities at diffraction-grating boundaries of the waveguide can cause a drop in image quality. This disclosure describes techniques to mitigate phase discontinuities between adjacent regions of a grating structure by adjusting the difference in residual layer thickness (RLT) of the waveguide between its blank regions and its input coupler. The RLT can be adjusted by controlling the spacing/size of inkjetted droplets in an inkjet nanoimprint lithography process; by secondary etching/ablation/polishing of the RLT; by introducing a depth …

Improved Image Quality In Near-Eye Displays Via Pre-Imprint Surface Modification, Thomas Hoekman, Joe Lowney, Kang Luo
Defensive Publications Series
Inkjet nanoimprint lithography, a technique for fabricating waveguide combiners used in near-eye displays (NEDs), can introduce predictable surface variations (ripples) in the diffractive waveguide combiner. The ripples diffract and scatter light, reducing image quality. This disclosure describes techniques to reduce surface undulations in near-eye displays using waveguide surface modification and/or stamp surface modification. The techniques reduce the surface energy of the droplets deposited on the waveguide by the inkjet, causing them to spread out more and producing a smoother final surface, in turn resulting in better image quality with lesser scattering and diffraction. Surface modification can be made using surface …

Contact-based discovery is where a first device attempts to discover nearby devices that have a contact-based relationship; i.e. a device can be configured to only be discoverable by people in its contact list. Existing contact-based discovery and data-sharing suffer from scalability issues and/or privacy-related concerns. This disclosure describes techniques for privacy-preserving, offline, contact-based nearby device discovery by combining an anonymous receive intent advertisement followed by a probabilistic identity filter and private set intersection (PSI) exchanges to check for contact presence of the other party in an address book. Personally identifiable information (PII) is exchanged only across secure channels authenticated by …

In the application of unbonded flexible pipes in offshore oil and gas field locations, the top riser supports might be located in the splash zone or just below the water line. At this location, both the vent valve and the end fitting are in a region which is prone to marine fouling, which may lead to blocking and damage to valves and consequently the riser itself.
The recommended practice for these types of pipe, API 17B, requires verification of the performance of the venting equipment, and clearly informs that the objective of this test is to verify the continued operation …

In complex software projects with numerous constituent files, a minor code change can cause the re-execution of hundreds of tests, many of which are irrelevant to the code change. Test execution can last tens of minutes, creating inefficiencies. This disclosure describes techniques that use individual file dependencies for selecting tests to be run on software under development. Files that directly or indirectly rely on those changed within the code are found. Dependencies between code changes and test targets are analyzed to trim the test list to those tests that are relevant to the changes. As a result, more targeted testing …
