Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This article, through the data of the Statistics Bureau of Thailand in 2007 and 2015, examines whether remittances brought about by economic migration will affect household expenditure patterns. This study includes three expenditure patterns: education expenditure, housing expenditure, food and beverage expenditure. The result shows remittances have no effect on housing expenditures. Families receiving remittances, the non-poor households pay more on education than the poor households. And poor households always have more expenditure on food and beverage than non-poor households.
Statelessness And Human Rights, I Hsuan Liu
Statelessness And Human Rights, I Hsuan Liu
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Although the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has expressed that human rights are guaranteed to everyone, however, the reality is that millions of people still remain stateless and their human rights are denied. Under the 1954 Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons, the Contracting States have attempted to guarantee quasi-national and quasi-alien status to the rights of the stateless persons. However, many of these rights have not adequately specified or in lacking an affirmative protective mechanism. This leads to the re-examination of the human rights that are developed after the 1954 Convention relating to the Status of the …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The International Criminal Court (ICC) was established for ensuring the effectiveness of bringing the perpetrators of international crimes to justice. In addition, the ICC plays its role in order to promote the rule of law in the international community. To archive these ultimate goals, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court outlines its role as a court of the last resort by emphasising states themselves are primarily responsible for the prosecution of international crimes. The main duty of the Court is to complement the proceedings at the national level of the state concerned (the principle of complementarity). The ICC …

Second, we determine the defective chromatic number and the defective chromatic number of which each color class is acyclic on a complete k-partite k-uniform hypergraph whose each edge has k vertices from k different partite sets. Finally, we determine the …
Critical Exponent For Nonlinear Nonlocal Equations, Auttawich Manui
Critical Exponent For Nonlinear Nonlocal Equations, Auttawich Manui
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In this thesis, we study the nonlinear nonlocal equation ∂t u=J*u-u+u¹+p where p>0 and J is nonnegative, bounded, and radially symmetric with unit integral. The Fourier transform of J satisfies J ̂(ξ)=1-A|ξ|^β (ln1/|ξ| 〗 )^μ+o(〖|ξ|〗^β (ln〖1/(|ξ|)〗 )^μ ) as ξ→0, for 0<β≤2, μ∈R, and A>0. In this study, we establish the local existence, uniqueness, and the comparison principle of solutions. Furthermore, we show that the Fujita critical exponent for this equation is β/n when μ<0. For the case μ>1, we discover that the critical exponent is β/n , and the solutions belong to the global to the small initial data regime.

A Numerical Investigation Of Augmented Heat Transfer In Rectangular Ducts With Ribs, Warissara Tangyotkhajorn
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The application of roughness structure of ribs inside a smooth channel is one effective way of heat transfer augmentation, but the accompanied pressure drop could be high. A novel V-rib design with branches was introduced and numerical simulations on the thermo-fluid impact of heat transfer and pressure drop were investigated. The parameters of investigation include the branching number and the pitch ratio of the V-ribs. It appears that increasing the relative pitch ratio serves to improve the overall performance of a roughened channel. The effect of the branching number is only experienced at low pitch ratio. At high pitch ratio, …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Macrophage plasticity is a process that allows macrophages to switch between two opposing phenotypes based on differential stimuli. Functional plasticity of macrophages contributes to disease pathogenesis such as cancer, metabolic diseases, autoimmune diseases and systemic infections. Epigenetics plays an important role in regulating this process. Macrophages stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (M(LPS)) produce high level of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-12, TNFα and IL-6 and low level of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, while macrophages stimulated with LPS in the presence of immune complex (IC) (M(IC)) produce high level of IL-10 and low level of IL-12. In this study, we investigated the plasticity …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Interferon (IFN)-λ is a relatively unexplored, yet promising anti-viral agent. IFN-λ has recently been tested in clinical trials of chronic hepatitis B, with the advantage that side effects may be limited compared with IFN-α, as IFN-λ receptors are found only in epithelial cells. To date, IFN-λ downstream signaling pathway remains largely unelucidated, particularly via proteomics methods. Here, we report that IFN-λ3 inhibits HBV replication in HepG2.2.15 cells, reducing levels of both HBV transcripts and intracellular HBV DNA. Quantitative proteomic analysis of HBV-transfected cells was performed following 24-hour IFN-λ3 treatment, with parallel IFN-α2a and PBS treatments for comparison using a dimethyl …
