Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The purpose of this study is to understand the social change and dining culture in Korean society by emphasizing in Honbap (혼밥), which means eating alone. In Asian countries as Korean society is a collectivism society which people are strong in-groups for a long time, unlike the Western countries where people are in individualism society. The influence of collectivistic values includes the dining culture in Korean society as eating out. Normally, Korean people usually prefer to eat with friends, family members, colleagues rather than eating alone. Eating alone in public looks strange like an outcast, it is hard to find …

The 18F-FDOPA PET scan is extensively examined to differentiate the normal and pathological dopamine metabolism in the human brain. The purpose of this study was to investigate the transfer rate constants of 18F-FDOPA in PET brain imaging based on compartmental model in early Parkinson’s disease. The retrospective data from five early PD patients who underwent 18F-FDOPA PET brain scan at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital (KCMH) were collected. After 18F-FDOPA was administered intravenously, PET images were acquired …

Characterization Of Leptospiral Extracellular Vesicles In Stress Conditions, Eakalak Phanchamnan Jan 2018

Characterization Of Leptospiral Extracellular Vesicles In Stress Conditions, Eakalak Phanchamnan

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Pathogenic Leptospira spp. is a causative agent of leptospirosis, a worldwide zoonosis with public health concern especially in the urban slum of metropolis and rural areas in tropical and subtropical countries. The pathogenesis of leptospirosis remains elusive. Extracellular vesicles (ECVs), which pinch off from the bacterial membranes, simultaneously harbor multiple active molecules that may serve as a secretion system, communication tool, and vaccine candidates. Recently, chemically induced leptospiral ECVs were studied and used as vaccine candidates. However, the naturally produced leptospiral ECVs has not been characterized. This study aimed to identify proteins in leptospiral ECVs produced under stress conditions including …

Effect Of Chronic Paracetamol Treatment On The Alteration Of Learning And Memory In Rats, Laddawan Lalert

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Paracetamol (acetaminophen: APAP) is widely used for treatment of pain and fever. Although APAP is well accepted as a safe drug, several studies have recently demonstrated that treatment with this drug can lead to an alteration of several neurobehaviors. However, the exact impact of the APAP treatment and the mechanisms underlying those effects are still largely unknown. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of APAP treatment on the alteration of learning and memory and the possible mechanism underlying deleterious effects induced by APAP treatment. In this study, APAP at the dose of 200 mg/kg bw was orally fed …

The Difference Patterns Of Electrophysiological Properties And Effects Of Kynurenic Acid In Trigeminal Ganglion Neurons Isolated From Rats Migraine Models, Naeemah Haji-A-Sa Jan 2018

The Difference Patterns Of Electrophysiological Properties And Effects Of Kynurenic Acid In Trigeminal Ganglion Neurons Isolated From Rats Migraine Models, Naeemah Haji-A-Sa

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Migraine headache generates in trigeminal nociceptive system which is activated by cortical spreading depression (CSD) phenomenon. There are also some neurotransmitter changes relating to pathogenesis of migraine, one of representative examples is serotonin (5-HT) depletion that may predispose to migraine development. Trigeminal ganglion (TG) is a structure containing cell body of neurons that undertakes a role as first order neuron in trigeminal nociceptive system. Moreover, the alteration of glutamate may contribute to hyperactivity of its specific receptors, for instance N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. Endogenous biomolecule, such as kynurenic acid (KYNA) which is derived form of 5-HT can inhibit NMDA receptor. Basically, …

The Development Of Supportive Care Needs Scale For Thai Women With Breast Cancer Undergoing Chemotherapy, Supanee Klungrit

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Assessment of supportive care needs before setting up care plans plays significant role in conducting patient-centered care, particularly supportive care needs of Thai women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy whose treatment process is specifically different from other group of cancer patients. It was found that supportive care needs scales constructed in western countries had certain limitations of some question items concerning difference in context, ways of life, and culture. Hence they could not assess consistently with all needs of Thai context. This study aims to develop supportive care needs scale for Thai women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy with two …

Tlr3 Signaling Modulates Immunomodulatory Property Of Human Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells., Daneeya Chaikiawkeaw Jan 2018

Tlr3 Signaling Modulates Immunomodulatory Property Of Human Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells., Daneeya Chaikiawkeaw

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Toll like receptor 3 (TLR3) is a member of TLR family functions to recognizes double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) produced by positive-strand RNA viruses and DNA virusesand generate signaling that stimulate body immune system against virus infection. However, recent evidence suggests that TLR3 signaling may also play a role in initiating the immunosuppressive property of the cells. Study on skin regeneration has shown the anti-inflammatory responses of keratinocytes required for wound healing andthe increasing number of hair follicle formation after TLR3 signaling was activated by fragment of RNA released from damaged cells. Moreover, activation of TLR3 signaling have shown to elicit a …

Green Composites Of Polylactic Acid Filled With Natural Fiber For Biodegradation Application, Chamaiporn Yamoum Jan 2018

Green Composites Of Polylactic Acid Filled With Natural Fiber For Biodegradation Application, Chamaiporn Yamoum

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This research focuses on how to use natural fibers available from agricultural residues to produce biodegradable materials such as mulch films. Green composites were prepared from natural fibers (peanut shell and bagasse fiber) and polylactic acid (PLA) together with plasticizers. The presence of plasticizers improved PLA molecular mobility as seen by the reduction of glass transition, cold crystallization, and melting temperatures. The addition of natural fibers into PLA brought down decomposition temperature when compared to PLA. The morphological study of the composites showed poor interfacial adhesion between natural fibers and PLA matrix. Moreover, the loading of plasticizers improved distribution of …

The mechanisms …

Association Of Genetic And Non-Genetic Factors With Clinical Responses Of Donepezil And Galantamine In Thai Patients With Dementia, Thitipon Yaowaluk Jan 2018

Association Of Genetic And Non-Genetic Factors With Clinical Responses Of Donepezil And Galantamine In Thai Patients With Dementia, Thitipon Yaowaluk

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Donepezil and galantamine are commonly prescribed for the treatment of dementia. However, the response rate of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors is only 15-35 %. Inter-individual variability in donepezil and galantamine response has been associated with genetic factor in some population. Moreover, non-genetic factors such as age, gender, education level, comorbidities and drug-drug interactions can influence pharmacokinetic profiles and drug responses. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the association of genetic variations that involved therapeutic effects of donepezil and galantamine including pathogenic gene; APOE, drug metabolizing genes; CYP2D6, CYP3A5, UGT1A1, transporter gene; ABCB1 and non-genetic factors with therapeutic outcomes as measured as Thai …
