Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Vietnam, like many developing countries, is undergoing a rapid pace of population ageing but within a resource limited context. Therefore, understanding the factors that are important to later life well-being has become a key policy issue. Using data from the 2011 Vietnam National Aging Survey, this thesis aims to investigate gender differences in the direct and indirect impacts of education on subjective well-being of older Vietnamese based on four domains: happiness, life satisfaction, loneliness, and depression (N=2,789, including 1,683 females and 1,106 males). The results from path analysis show that those with higher level of education are happier and more …

Impact Of Migration And Remittances On Children's Human Capital In Cambodia, Vatana Chea

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This dissertation investigates the impacts of migration and remittances on human capital development of left-behind children in Cambodia. It contributes new evidence to a controversial debate in the literature on long-term impacts of migration and of remittances on the children. This is from the perspective of education, health, and consumption in remittance-recipient households compared with those in non-recipient ones. It relies on pooled data from Cambodia Socio-Economic Survey of 2009 and 2014, each of which comprises around 12,000 households in both rural and urban areas across all 25 provinces there. To evaluate the impact on household educational investment, the study …

Reactive Power Management In A Distribution System By Photovoltaic Inverter, Akasinh Luangduangsitthideth

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Nowadays the electrical generation from the solar photovoltaic resource is extensively promoted because of the concern about greenhouse gas emission. A distribution system can be powered by a variety of solar photovoltaic resources, and can be used for various objectives, it can improve voltage profile problems and can reduce real power losses of the upgrading process of transmission and distribution system. However, presence much of the PV system may have detrimental impacts on the operation of the distribution system because of the variation of solar photovoltaic increases. This thesis proposed the optimal reactive power control modes by PV inverters when …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The optical switching crosstalk is the important considerable issue in the optical fiber communication system, it tends to the signal distortion and decreasing of the system performance. This dissertation research is proposed a guideline to design a flexible fiber to the x (FTTx) system based on wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) combining with wavelength selective switches (WSSs). For the system configuration, the 4 wavelengths-10 ONUs system with the data bit rate of 10-Gbps/λ and 40-Gbps/ λ are studied in this dissertation. Moreover, to be active switching, the dynamic wavelength bandwidth allocation (DWBA) controller is used to control WSSs. …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Thailand is an agricultural country of which almost 80% of the total agricultural land is rain-fed. An on-farm pond, which is a self-reliant small-scale water source for harvesting the rainwater to be used for the whole year, becomes radical for farmers in this area. These farmers need to select the agricultural water management scheme which uses limited rainwater harvested in the on-farm pond efficiently and productively to fulfill their household needs, which will lead to sustainable rain-fed agriculture. Therefore, the study aimed to select an appropriate decision support tool for sustainable rain-fed agriculture referenced to the New Theory of His …
