Real-Time Subsurface Scattering For Particle-Based Fluids Using Finite Volume Method, Kyung-Kyu Kang, Dongho Kim

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

We present a real-time subsurface scattering simulation to perform real-time rendering of translucent particle-based fluids. After particle-based fluid simulation, we immediately build voxelized fluids, called Voronoi fluids, with particle locations and neighbour lists using GPUs. And then, we perform a multiple subsurface scattering simulation over the Voronoi fluids with the diffusion equation (DE). We employ Finite Volume Methods to solve DE efficiently and rapidly with the voxelized fluids. In our implementation, DE is solved on GPUs with the diffusive source boundary condition and query function for computing the outgoing radiance. We demonstrate a milk demo that show our method can be …

A Combined Mle And Generalized P Chart Approach To Estimate The Change Point Of A Multinomial Process, Chia-Ding Hou, Yuehjen E. Shao, Sheng Huang

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Correct and quick identification of the change point of a process shift is very important for process improvement. Although several studies have been devoted to the estimation of the change point of the process shifts for a univariate process, little research has been done on a multivariate process, particularly for a multivariate process where the quality characteristics cannot be measured in a numerical scale. In this study, an effective approach that combines the method of maximum likelihood and the generalized p control chart is developed to estimate the starting time of a process disturbance for a multinomial process. An illustrative …

Study The Behavior Of Vortex-Antivortex Bundles In He Ii, Sultan Z. Alamri

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

We present a numerical simulation to compute the evolution of vortex filaments bundle in superfluid helium. We show that the vortex-antivortex bundles with sinusoidally have stable structures and each bundle rotates about its common center. Because of they have circulation in opposing directions, the two vortex bundles move down together parallel to each other. A three dimensional periodic cube is used. Thus, the vortex filament points move through one side of the periodic volume and re-entering on the other side. The two bundles move for long time without reconnection. We found that our results are in agreement with the finding …

A Multilevel Control Iterative Method For Nonlinear Partial Different Equations, Xiaoyan Deng, Hong Gao

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The multilevel iterative method consists of the iterative systems associated with different levels, the solution in coarse level is in essence used as the initial guess of the iterative system in refined level. Since the different iterative targets, one doesn’t guarantee that an excellent coarse level solution provides better starting point than a bad one for the refined level system. To decrease computational cost a natural idea is to control the iterative times in coarse levels. The objective of this paper is to propose a multilevel iterative method for nonlinear partial different equations. In which a controlling parameter that can …

Fractional Riccati Equation Rational Expansion Method For Fractional Differential Equations, Yongfeng Zhang, Qinghua Feng

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, a new fractional Riccati equation rational expansion method is proposed to establish new exact solutions for fractional differential equations. For illustrating the validity of this method, we apply it to the nonlinear fractional Sharma-Tasso- Olever (STO) equation, the nonlinear time fractional biological population model and the nonlinear fractional foam drainage equation. Compared with the existing results in the literature, more exact solutions are obtained by the proposed method. We also illustrate the application of the established exact solutions.

Robust Fhpd Features From Speech Harmonic Analysis For Speaker Identification, Shuiping Wang, Zhenmin Tang, Ye Jiang, Ying Chen

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Speaker identification accuracy decreases significantly in the presence of additive noise. In this paper, we propose a robust speech feature extraction method, which is based on the harmonic structure of voiced segments. The robust features are composed of fundamental and harmonic peak data from short-time spectrum. These features are evaluated by thirty speaker data from TIMIT database and additive noise signals from NOISEX-92 database with clean training and noisy testing samples. Results reflect that under low SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) environments new features achieve better performance than conventionalMFCC (Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients) parameters.

Cryptanalysis Of A Password-Based Group Key Exchange Protocol Using Secret Sharing, Ruxandra F. Olimid

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Yuan et al. recently introduced a password-based group key transfer protocol that uses secret sharing, which they claim to be efficient and secure [9]. We remark its resemblance to the construction of Harn and Lin [1], which Nam et al. proved vulnerable to a replay attack [3]. It is straightforward that the same attack can be mount against Yuan et al.’s protocol, proving that the authors’ claim is false. In the same paper, Nam et al. propose a countermeasure that may also apply to Yuan et al.’s protocol. However, we show that their protocol remains susceptible to an insider attack …

Cryptanalysis Of A Certificateless Aggregate Signature Scheme For Mobile Computation, Muhammad Khurram Khan, Debiao He

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Recently, Xiong et al. proposed an efficient certificateless aggregate signature (CLAS) scheme for mobile computation. They demonstrated that their scheme is provably secure in the random oracle model. Unfortunately, by giving a concrete attack, in this paper, we point out that Xiong et al.’s scheme is not secure at all and an adversary without the partial private key and the secret value could forge a legal message. Hence, Xiong et al.’s scheme is not feasible for practical applications.

Visualization Of Buckling On Thin-Walled Cylindrical Shell By Digital Image Correlation Method, C. Zhao, H. Matsuda, S. Lou, C. Morita, A. Koga

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The problem of buckling stability is very important in thin-walled cylindrical shell structure. In order to investigate the buckling phenomena, digital image correlation (DIC) method was applied in this experiment. The specimens have a thickness of 0.131mm and the ratio of external diameter (R0) to thickness (H) R0/H is 252. Due to its curved and thin walled elements, measurement of displacement and strains by using the traditional methods is difficult, because there is not enough space for sticking necessary torsion gauges to measure the out-of-plane behaviour, even if it is possible, the rigidity of the gauge itself will have an …
