A Modified Pso Algorithm For Numerical Optimization Problems, Hsin-Chuan Kuo, Jeun-Len Wu, Ching-Hai Lin
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
By successively employing the interval search method, we developed the proposed algorithm MPSO, introducing three creative position vectors to replace the three worst fitness particles among the population in the PSO, to overcome the premature convergence situation that occurs when a problem with a large number of variables and (or) multiple optima is solved. The results obtained by applying the MPSO and the PSO on 6 benchmark functions show that, except for the randomly shifted Rosenbrock functions, the MPSO can successfully secure a solution that is close to the exact solution for each of the remaining five functions. We also showed …

A New Algorithm To Determine Minimally K-Edgeconnected Graphs With Odd K, Yunming Ye, Yueping Li
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A necessary and sufficient condition for a graph to be minimally k-edge-connected where k is odd is presented. Based on this result, a divide-and-conquer algorithm to determine minimally k-edge-connected graphs is developed. Experiments are performed to check minimally 3-edge-connectivity. The results show that our algorithm is much more effective than the previously known best algorithm.

A New Method For Solving Singularly Perturbed Boundary Value Problems, Essam R. El-Zahar, Saber M. M. El-Kabeir
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, a new initial value method for solving a class of nonlinear singularly perturbed boundary value problems with a boundary layer at one end is proposed. The method is designed for the practicing engineer or applied mathematician who needs a practical tool for these problems (easy to use, modest problem preparation and ready computer implementation). Using singular perturbation analysis the method is distinguished by the following fact: the original problem is replaced by a pair of first order initial value problems; namely, a reduced problem and a boundary layer correction problem. These initial value problems are solved using …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Finite field multiplier is widely applied in many domains such as coding theory and cryptography. In this paper, it is purposed to propose a concurrent all-cell error detection semi-systolic polynomial basis multiplier based on coding theory which can realize high-speed calculation and high efficient error detection with low resource consumption. First, our method is created to choose an appreciate generator polynomial for a linear code and an irreducible polynomial generating the finite field. Then the finite field arithmetic multiplication with error detection is simplified on a residue class ring resulted from linearly coding. Second, a semi-systolic array is compressed to …

Some Issues On Quasi-Arithmetic Intuitionistic Fuzzy Owa Operators, Chunqiao Tan, Zhong-Zhong Jiang, Xiaohong Chen
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper presents a critical analysis of conventional operations on intuitionistic fuzzy values (IFVs), and some limitations of the conventional aggregation operator on IFVs are analyzed in detail. In order to overcome these limitations, according to new operation laws on IFVs based on Achimedean t-norm and t-conorm, we propose a new quasi-intuitionistic fuzzy OWA (QIFOWA) operator. Some corresponding specific QIFOWA operators are given to show a consistent result. Our revisions will undoubtedly result in the improvement of both the theoretic development and the practical application in aggregation operator for decision making problems.

A Direct Approach To Transient Queue-Size Distribution In A Finite-Buffer Queue With Aqm, Wojciech M. Kempa
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A finite-buffer M/G/1-type queueing model is considered in which the level of saturation of the buffer is controlled by a dropping function. A direct analytical method to the study of the transient queue-size distribution is proposed. Applying the embedded Markov chain paradigm and the formula of total probability a specific-type system of integral equations for the transient queue-size distributions, conditioned by the number of packets present in the system at the opening, is derived. The corresponding system of linear equations built for the Laplace transforms is written in a matrix form and solved directly. The M/M/1/1-type system is analyzed as …

A Novel Algorithm With Orthogonal Arrays For The Global Optimization Of Design Of Experiments, Chao-Tsung Lee, Hsin-Chuan Kuo
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we develop a novel algorithm that determines the overall best parameter setting in the design of experiments. The algorithm begins with successive orthogonal array experiments and ends with a full factorial experiment. The setup for the next orthogonal array experiment is obtained from the previous experiment by either fixing a factor at a given level or by reducing the number of levels considered for all currently non-fixed factors. We illustrate this method using a light-gauge steel wall sound isolation system with four parameters, each with three levels. In a previous study, the full factorial of 81 experiments …

Several numerical examples are given to illustrate the efficiency and performance of the proposed method. In the end, the new method is used in water …

Characteristics Of Dynamic Coefficients On Stability For Herringbone-Grooved Journal Bearings, Chien-Yu Chen, Ruey-Hor Yen, Chien-Sheng Liu
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This work proposes a novel approach to analyze the stability characteristics for the dynamic coefficients of a herringbonegrooved journal bearing. Based on the perturbation method at the equilibrium position of a journal bearing, this study expresses the variation of critical mass as the derivation of eight dynamic coefficients: four stiffness and four damping coefficients. Since the relationship between the critical mass and the eight dynamic coefficients is very complicated, it is difficult to judge the influence in previous studies of an individual dynamic coefficient on stability. The method presented in this paper can investigate quantitatively which dynamic coefficients dominate stability. …
