The Granger Causality Relationship Between Foreign Direct Investment (Fdi) And Economic Development In The State Of Qatar, Mohanad Fayez Alkhasawneh
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this study, we investigate the causality relationship between the inflows of foreign direct investment and economic development as measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in the State of Qatar during the period 1970 - 2010. It also investigates the direction of the relation between the two variables using several tests: Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF), Johansen cointegration and Granger Causality tests. Robust empirical findings drawn from the Johansen cointegration analysis suggest the existence of such long-run equilibrium relationship between FDI and GDP. Furthermore, causality test indicates that there is a bidirectional causality on the FDI-GDP relationship for one, two …

Rule Evaluation Algorithm For Semantic Query Optimisation, Ayla Sayli, Armagan Elibol
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Semantic Query Optimisation (SQO) in Relational Database Management Systems (RDMSs) is a query optimisation approach which uses rules learned from past queries in order to execute new queries more intelligently without accessing database, whenever possible. The approach is composed of several components: Query Representation, Query Optimisation, Automatic Rule Derivation and Rule Maintenance. This paper focused on the query optimisation component. In RDMSs, during the traditional SQO, different alternative queries of a given query can be constructed using matching rule(s) from the rule set, and then its optimiser selects one of the alternatives as an optimum query which will give the …

A Confidential Communication-Oriented Information Hiding Algorithm Based On Ghm Multi-Wavelet And Dct, Zhang Tao, Mu Dejun, Ren Shuai
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Structure and energy properties of carrier are considered as the most important factors to information hiding performance. This paper develops a new method to analyze energy and structure characteristics of digital images in order to preprocess the carriers. We adopt GHM multi-wavelet transformation to decompose the cover image into sub-images with different energy level. Then we obtain the embedding regions which are expressed as numerical range by discrete cosine transform. We embed data with different robustness in different regions. Then we get the stego image which is rarely changed in energy and structure properties compared with the original cover image. …

Ideal Theory Of Bck/Bci-Algebras Based On Double-Framed Soft Sets, Young Bae Jun, G. Muhiuddin, Abdullah M. Al-Roqi
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The notion of a (closed) double-framed soft ideal (briefly, a (closed) DFS-ideal) in BCK/BCI-algebras is introduced, and related properties are investigated. Several examples are provided. The relation between a DFS-algebra and a DFS-ideal is considered, and characterizations of a (closed) DFS-ideal are established. A new DFS-ideal from old one is constructed, and we show that the int-uni DFS-set of two DFS-ideals is a DFS-ideal. Conditions for a DFS-ideal to be closed are discussed.

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The classical mathematical theories have their difficulties which are pointed out in [18] for the solution complicated problems in engineering and environment. To overcome these difficulties, Molodtsov [18] introduced the concept of soft set as a new mathematical tool. Furthermore, D. Pei and D. Miao [22] showed that soft sets are a class of special information systems. In [9] for the soft set theory: new definitions, examples, new classes of soft sets, and properties for mappings between different classes of soft sets are introduced and studied. Moreover, the theory of soft topological spaces is investigated. This paper continues the study …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, series solution of fuzzy initial value problems under strongly generalized differentiability by means of the homotopy analysis method is considered. The new approach provides the solution in the form of a rapidly convergent series with easily computable components using symbolic computation software. Although the homotopy analysis method contains the auxiliary parameter, the convergence region of the series solution can be controlled in a simple way. The proposed technique is applied to a few test examples to illustrate the accuracy and applicability of the method. The results reveal that the method is very effective and straightforward. Meanwhile, analysis …

Innovative Crossover And Mutation In A Genetic Algorithm Based Approach To A Campus Bus Driver Scheduling Problem With Break Consideration And Embedded Overtime, Razamin Ramli, Haslinda Ibrahim, Lim Tze Shung
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The unfairness of job distribution and the ineffectiveness of break-time assignment among bus drivers are factors identified as problem issues in the bus driver management in a university campus environment. The issues affect the quality of the bus service which then pointed to the efficiency or inefficiency of the bus driver scheduling system. Thus, this study investigates the problem and constraints connected to bus driver scheduling activities as a case in a campus environment. Therefore, we developed an efficient bus driver scheduling model based on the Genetic Algorithm (GA) approach. The GA model is able to schedule efficiently bus drivers …

Security And Improvement Of An Authenticated Group Key Transfer Protocol Based On Secret Sharing, Wei Yuan, Liang Hu, Hongtu Li, Jianfeng Chu
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Recently Harn and Lin proposed a novel authenticated group key transfer protocol that a mutually trusted key generation center (KGC) can broadcast group key information to all group members at once and only authorized group members can recover the group key. This paper presents that Harn and Lin’s protocol can not withstand man-in-the-middle attack and describes the reasons and detailed processes that the group key is gained by the active attacker who is not included in the member list of that particular group. To fill the gaps, we discuss the problems, possible solutions, and propose an improved protocol.

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
At present most privacy preserving algorithms based on l-diversity model are limited only to static data release. It is low efficiency and vulnerable to inference attack if these anonymous algorithms are directly applied to dynamic data publishing. To address this issue, this paper analyzes various inference channels that possibly exist between multiple anonymized datasets and discusses how to avoid such inferences and provides an effective approach to securely anonymize a dynamic dataset based on incremental clustering: incremental l-diversity algorithm. Theory analysis and experiment results show that the proposed method is effective and efficient.

An Algorithm For Judging And Generating Bilinear Multivariate Quadratic Quasigroups, Ying Zhang, Huisheng Zhang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Multivariate Quadratic Quasigroups (MQQs) as a suitable class of quasigroups for multivariate public key cryptography recently have been an important mathematical tool in information security field. In this paper, we propose a necessary and sufficient condition to verify whether a quasigroup given by its multiplication table is a bilinear MQQ, which shows that checking whether an arbitrary quasigroup is a bilinear MQQ is equivalent to solving a simple matrix equation. Based on this condition, a deterministic algorithm is proposed to judge whether a given quasigroup is a bilinear MQQ and then obtain the corresponding Boolean functions if it is. An …

Algorithmic Verification Of Intransitive Noninterference For 3-Domain Security Policies With A Sat Solver, Liu Zhifeng, Zhou Conghua, Ge Yun, Zhang Dong
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper we propose an automated verification approach to checking intransitive noninterference for deterministic finite state systems. Our approach is based on the counterexamples search verification strategy, and is conducted in gradual manner. It produces counterexamples of minimal length. Further, we reduce the counterexamples search to propositional satisfiability. For the case that there are no counterexamples, we also introduce the window induction proof method in order to avoid considering unnecessary iterations, and show that the induction proof can be performed by the boolean decision procedure. In addition, based on graph-theoretic properties of systems we propose an over-approximation to the …

An Axiomatization Of The Hirsch-Index Without Adopting Monotonicity, Yan-An Hwang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The Hirsch-index is an index for measuring and comparing the output of researchers. Under the condition of monotonicity, Woeginger [7] provides a characterization of the Hirsch-index by three axioms in 2008. Replacing monotonicity by expansion consistency, we characterize the Hirsch-index by only two of Woeginger’s axioms. Besides, we also introduce an axiom contraction consistency. It is a dual viewpoint of expansion consistency. Based on contraction consistency, an additional characterization of the Hirsch-index is reported.

Adaptive Control Based On Incremental Hierarchical Sliding Mode For Overhead Crane Systems, Dianwei Qian, Shiwen Tong, Jianqiang Yi
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Incremental hierarchical sliding mode control (IHSMC) methodology involves 2n−2 sign switches of controller parameters for an underactuated system with n subsystems. Too many sign switches trouble parameter tuning. This paper presents an adaptive control design approach based on IHSMC methodology for overhead crane systems with 2 subsystems with only 1 sign switch. The system stability is proven by Barbalat’s lemma and Lasalle’s invariance principle in the sense of Lyapunov theory. Simulation results illustrate the feasibility of the presented method by transport control of overhead crane systems.
