Q-Beta Polynomials And Their Applications, Yilmaz Simsek

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The aim of this paper is to construct generating functions for q-beta polynomials. By using these generating functions, we define the q -beta polynomials and also derive some fundamental properties of these polynomials. We give some functional equations and partial differential equations (PDEs) related to these generating functions. By using these equations, we find some identities related to these polynomials, binomial coefficients, the gamma function and the beta function. We obtain a relation between the qbeta polynomials and the q-Bernstein basis functions. We give relations between the q-Beta polynomials, the Bernoulli polynomials, the Euler polynomials and the Stirling numbers. We …

Online Anomaly Detection For Service-Oriented Components In Osgi-Based Applications, Tao Wang, Jun Wei, Wenbo Zhang, Hua Zhong

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

OSGi has become one of the most promising frameworks for managing service-oriented and component-based applications. The OSGi-based service-oriented components delivered by different vendors are usually black-box program units which lack source code and design documents. Thus, it is difficult to evaluate their quality by static code analysis, and the defective components may lead to the failure of the whole system eventually. In this paper, we propose an online method for detecting anomalous service-oriented components in OSGi-based applications. A thread-tracing method is presented to monitor resource utilization and interactions between components. The method considers both the dynamic service invocation and static …

Network And Economic Trade-Off Performance Regions Of Cognitive Radio Systems With Power Control, Ramiro S?Mano-Robles, At?Lio Gameiro

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Cognitive radio will enable terminals with access to licensed and unlicensed portions of the spectrum. This feature is expected to solve bandwidth scarcity problems in future wireless networks. However, different parts of the spectrum will be subject not only to different propagation conditions, but also to different licensing and billing agreements. Therefore, in order to obtain the major profit and spectrum efficiency, resource allocation algorithms must now target both network and economic performance metrics. This problem can be conveniently expressed as a multi-objective portfolio optimization problem, which has been studied in detail in the field of economics. This paper addresses …

Preconditioned Modified Explicit Decoupled Group For The Solution Of Steady State Navier-Stokes Equation, Norhashidah Hj. Mohd Ali, Abdulkafi Mohammed Saeed

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Combining iterative schemes with suitable preconditioners may improve the rate of the convergence of the methods. However, the real difficulty lies in the construction of the correct preconditioners applied to the formulated schemes. In this paper, the Modified Explicit Decoupled Group Successive Over-Relaxation method is formulated to solve the two dimensional steady-state Navier-Stokes equations. A new block splitting preconditioned matrix is applied to the formulated scheme as an effort to accelerate the convergence rate. Numerical experiments are carried out to confirm the effectiveness of the preconditioner in terms of accuracy and execution timings. Comparison with its unpreconditioned counterpart will also …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The motion of two-phase flow in a porous medium under the condition of vertical equilibrium can be described by a viscous conservation law that involves a non-convex flux function with two inflection points. In [5], a first order Godunov scheme was used to numerically approximate solutions of the model. In this paper we show that using instead the high resolutionWeighted Essentially Non Oscillatory (WENO) technology, and an IMEX strategy to handle the capillary term by an implicit discretization, leads to a noticeable increase in resolution power and efficiency. We carefully discuss the implementation of WENO schemes for the model equation, …

Selective-Repeat ARQ (Automatic Repeat reQuest) protocol is the most efficient error control technology in wireless because it allows the transmitter to retransmit only negatively acknowledges (NACK) packets. In this paper, by analyzing the transmission mechanism of SR-ARQ, the discrete-time Geom/G/1/ queue model is established sententiously based on equivalent delay under the condition that the numbers of packets entering the transmitter are assumed to be independent and identically distributed random variables. With the method of embedded Markov chain, the expression formulations of the packet mean waiting delay, system mean delay and channel utilization are explicitly obtained. And then, the sliding window …

Visibility Resolution With Polar Diagrams, Lidia Ortega, M. Dolores Robles-Ortega

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Visibility determination is an essential topic in computer graphics when visualizing large scenes. This problem can be addressed using many different techniques, but most of them discard obtaining an exact visible set because it is more time consuming compared with the solution provided by the graphics hardware. However the problem remains if the scenes must be visualized in a mobile device and the visible scene must be transmitted via the Internet. In this paper we introduce a new approach based on ray shooting for obtaining an exact visibility set in polygonal scenes in R2 and prism-shaped objects in R3. In …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, we determine some stability results concerning the cubic functional equation kf(x + ky) + f(kx − y) = k(k2 + 1) 2 [f(x + y) + f(x − y)] + (k 4 − 1)f(y), where k ≥ 2 is a fixed integer, in the setting of intuitionistic fuzzy normed spaces (IFNS). Further we study the intuitionistic fuzzy continuity through the existence of a certain solution of a fuzzy stability problem for approximately cubic functional equation.

A Maximum Lifetime Algorithm For Data Gathering Without Aggregation In Wireless Sensor Networks, Junbin Liang, Taoshen Li

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Data gathering in wireless sensor network (WSN) has attracted a lot of attention in research. Data gathering can be done with or without aggregation, depending on the degree of correlation among the source data. In this paper, we study the problem of data gathering without aggregation, aiming to conserving the energy of sensor nodes so as to maximize the network lifetime. We model the problem as one of finding a min-max-weight spanning tree (MMWST), which is shown to be NP-complete. In MMWST, the maximum weight of the nodes is minimized. The weight of a node in the tree equals the …
