Public School Elementary Teachers’ Perspectives On Levels Of Workplace Stress And Needed Supports, Rima S. Granados
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem addressed through this study was that public elementary school teachers in the United States have reported increasing levels of workplace stress. Teachers’ stress levels need to be studied and addressed because they affect students as well. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore elementary public school K-3 teachers’ perspectives on their levels of workplace stress and institutional supports needed to reduce workplace stress. Coping-competence-context theory was the conceptual framework. Research questions explored elementary public school teachers’ perspectives on their levels of workplace stress, and their perspectives on the institutional supports needed to reduce workplace stress. …

Perioperative Nurses' Perceptions And Barriers To Implementing The Colorectal Surgery Care Bundle, Kaydian Kerry-Ann Grant
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractDespite evidence that surgical care bundle usage prevents surgical site infections (SSIs) in colorectal surgeries, there is a consistent increase in SSIs. Perioperative nurses are in a unique position to provide insight into the process for colorectal surgical care bundle usage, yet little is known about how perioperative nurses view the process. The perioperative patient focused model was used in this qualitative interpretative phenomenological study to examine the perceptions of perioperative nurses regarding the use of colorectal surgery care bundle and its role in preventing SSIs in patients undergoing colon and rectal surgeries. Sixteen perioperative nurses who were members of …

Comparisons Of Impostor Phenomenon Among Nursing Faculty Across Teaching Levels, Teaching Experience, And Gender, Deborah E. Horvath
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Nursing faculty must be effective educators, active nurse researchers, and practicing nurse experts. Feelings of impostor phenomenon (IP), defined as emotions of fraudulence, can lead to faculty deficiencies both as educators and scholars. The purpose of this three-manuscript dissertation, guided by Weiner’s attribution theory, was to determine differences in IP by teaching level, teaching experience, and gender among nursing faculty. A two-tailed t-test was used to analyze data collected from 164 participants who completed the Clance impostor phenomenon scale. Data revealed instructors teaching at the undergraduate level had more feelings of IP than those teaching at the postgraduate and graduate …

Law Enforcement Officers’ Perceptions Of Administering Naloxone In Overdose Scenarios, Wayne Joseph Jackson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
There is minimal research on law enforcement officers’ perceptions of overdose recovery efforts and unforeseen occupational dangers. Using a phenomenological approach and street-level bureaucracy as the interpretive lens, this study involved examining lived experiences of law enforcement officers in northern New Jersey who have implemented naloxone administration protocols for suspected opioid overdoses and actual or perceived unintentional scene-related chemical exposure. Four main themes emerged personal experience, medical interventions, the war on drugs, and safeguards. Subthemes uncovered law enforcement officers’ requests for additional occupational safeguards and education for scene-responding officers specifically involving self-protection and improved medical intervention training. These findings support …

Educating Acute Care And Emergency Nurses On Infant Safe Sleep Practices, Kimberly Catherine Mackeil-White
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Rates of infant deaths due to sudden infant death syndrome, asphyxia, and sudden unexplained infant death dropped significantly during the original marketing and education push for infant safe sleep practices during the 1990s following the recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics, but a plateau has occurred with no further recent decreases. Safe sleep practices are inconsistent in the practicum site and guidelines for safe sleep practices do not exist. Although aware of the concepts, staff do not consistently educate families about maintaining the practices within the hospital environment, as evidenced by non-compliance with …

A Qualitative Study Of Urban Male Perception And Definition Of Respect For Law Enforcement Officers, Kyla Duckworth Lurry
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Among African American males, deaths are alarmingly high for reasons that cannot be completely pinpointed. The purpose of this study was to analyze the definition and perception of respect and law enforcement by an African American male and to determine if Goffman’s dramaturgical model is sufficient to explain the social acceptance respect phenomena. Micro-sociological assessments of everyday social interactions are often based on dramaturgy, a sociological perspective. In a dramaturgical model, social interaction is analyzed as an actor’s performance on stage. This study employed a qualitative design so that the research questions could be answered. Based on the findings of …

Relationship Between Childhood Trauma, ,Adverse Childhood Experiences, And Self-Management Of Type 1 And Type 2 Diabetes, Deserie J. Otoole
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractPoorly controlled diabetes is the result of lack of self-care, which contributes to complications, ill quality in life, the rise in health care costs, and early death. The purpose of this quantitative, nonexperimental study was to examine the extent to which diabetes type (Type 1 and Type 2), childhood trauma, and adverse childhood experiences predict diabetes self-management (glucose management, dietary control, physical activity, health care use, total self-management). Contemporary trauma theory suggests that early childhood trauma results in negative health-related consequences in adulthood. Standard multiple regression analyses showed that (a) higher levels of physical neglect and emotional abuse predicted poorer …
