Covid-19 Social Isolation And Young Adult Mental Well-Being And Socioeconomic Status As A Moderator, Falescia Ware Matlock
Covid-19 Social Isolation And Young Adult Mental Well-Being And Socioeconomic Status As A Moderator, Falescia Ware Matlock
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractIt is not currently known how social distancing guidelines impact mental health for emerging adults and whether socioeconomic status moderates this relationship. The psychosocial development theory states that emerging adults experience a psychological conflict—intimacy versus isolation—where the goal is to seek connections. Without connection, emerging adults are likely to experience impaired psychological well-being, which was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of perceived social distancing guidelines on the mental health of emerging adults and if this relationship is moderated by socioeconomic status. This study followed a quantitative comparative design of emerging …

AbstractStudies have been conducted on the sexual offending of the local population by peacekeepers, but few have been conducted on the lived experience of professionals providing support and assistance to these victims. This qualitative phenomenological study was conducted to explore the lived experiences of experts providing support and assistance to victims of sex offenses committed in the Central African Republic by international military peacekeepers. The classical deterrence and retributive justice theories guided the study. Participants were recruited through snowball sampling and data collected through face-to- face interviews and analyzed using the Modified Van Kaam method. Two research questions were used …

Secondary data on 226 global banks were collected from the Sustainalytics and FitchConnect databases. The results of the moderated multiple regression analysis indicated the two full models comprising …
The Reproductive Health Experienced By Female Shift Workers In The United States, Jessica Parsons
The Reproductive Health Experienced By Female Shift Workers In The United States, Jessica Parsons
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Shift work has become a normalized part of the occupational schedule across all industries, where previous research has illustrated the detrimental effect on female reproductive health. The conceptual lens that this research used was based on shift work adaptation. Worker adaptability to shift work, through management of occupational and non-occupational demands, may be fundamental in reducing negative health outcomes associated with shift work. This descriptive qualitative study detailed the experiences of female shift workers in the United States to better understand the conditions, barriers, and perceptions of their reproductive health that lead to adaptive or maladaptive behavior amid a non-traditional …

AbstractHispanic women are among the ethnic groups with higher cervical cancer rates in the United States. This mixed-method study was conducted to explore perceived barriers and self-efficacy-related factors to cervical cancer screening in foreign-born Hispanic women in Florida. The theory of planned behavior was applied to determine if behavioral intentions influence access to cervical cancer screening. The inclusion criteria included Hispanic women 18 years old and older without a hysterectomy history. Quantitative data were collected through a self-administered survey. A total of 84 individuals completed the survey. A binary logistic regression analysis was performed to determine if sociodemographic factors are …

Effect Of Women’S Management Levels In Higher Education Institutions On Multi-Dimensional Ingroup Disidentification, Audrey Quade
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Many of the barriers women face in achieving senior leadership positions in higher education institutions are the result of ingroup disidentification. The problem that was addressed in this study is the low gender identification of women managers in higher education. The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference in detachment, dissatisfaction, and dissimilarity scores as measured with the Three-Component Measure of Disidentification (TCMOD) between low, mid, and senior-level women managers in higher education institutions. The theoretical foundation for this study was social identity theory because gender group identification is a key element of social identity. A causal-comparative approach …

AbstractThe most personal level of communication is intentional self-disclosure of one’s feelings or thoughts with another individual. Within the context of romantic relationships, disclosure between partners has implications for the relationships and for individual well-being. However, less is known about whether perceived pressure to disclose is related to young adults’ amount of disclosure to their partners. The theoretical frameworks applied to this study included social penetration theory, self-disclosure theory, and Reis and Shaver’s intimacy process model. The primary purpose of this quantitative secondary analysis of previously collected data by Rose was to test whether young adults’ perceived pressure from their …
School Officials' Perceptions Of Threat Assessment Programs, William Ward
School Officials' Perceptions Of Threat Assessment Programs, William Ward
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Acts of targeted violence on school grounds, and most notably school shootings, continue to occur and are a serious concern for many people. Behavioral threat assessment programs are one method being used to address this problem, and while considerable research has been conducted on threat assessment programs, very little research has been conducted on how school officials implement, operate, or understand these programs. A more informed awareness of how school officials perceive the implementation, operation, and usefulness of threat assessment programs may provide insight into ways to improve the implementation and management of these programs. This was a qualitative phenomenological …

Hide Or Seek? Paradigms Of Publicized Police Killings And The Paradox Of Police Calls, Dr. Ty Woods
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Police departments and the 911 emergency call system were created for public safety purposes. However, when a 911 call summoning police for assistance leads to another 911 call involving a deceased victim of a police encounter, public safety seems lacking. Many citizens vicariously witness or view fatal police encounters through the lens of extant media information, and how the public perceives media coverage can negate citizen trust and confidence in law enforcement.
