All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
During 1966 and 1967, a range plant clipping study was conducted at two locations in central Utah's Ephraim Canyon. It was found that extreme clipping treatment resulted in a significant increase in soil moisture due to a presumed decrease in transpiration during 1967. At the lower location, 7,100 feet elevation, a difference of 5.4 inches over a 5 foot soil profile was noted between the extreme and control clipping treatments in 1967. At the upper location, 10,000 feet in elevation, a savings of 3.6 inches soil moisture was observed over the 5 foot soil profile in 1967. Other clipping intensities …

The Feasibility Of Pulp And Paper Production In Utah, Thomas Meyer
The Feasibility Of Pulp And Paper Production In Utah, Thomas Meyer
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The objectives of this study are:
l. To determine the adequacy of markets for paper products.
2. To identify and quantify the costs of the factors affecting pulp and paper production.
The available information indicates that adequate markets exist for paper produced in Utah.
Chemicals, water, labor, and power are available at costs low enough not to prohibit pulp and paper production. An adequate, low priced supply of wood could be purchased from the United States Forest Service. Intermountain and national paper markets would enable a paper producer in Utah to take advantage of lower comparative transportation costs.

Study Of Sheltered Evaporation In Colombia, Guillermo Pardo-Bonilla
Study Of Sheltered Evaporation In Colombia, Guillermo Pardo-Bonilla
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Equations, tables, and graphs for estimating evaporation from sheltered evaporimeters were developed, based on data from 20 stations in Colombia.
Computer programs and plottings were the basic tools to work out the equations. The form of the simplified final equation is
Ev = kCVPDCT
in which
- Ev is the evaporation in millimeters per day
- K is a constant
- CVPD is the vapor pressure deficit coefficient
- CT is the temperature coefficient
Statistical parameters were determined to compare the measured evaporation with the Christiansen-Guillen formula and the newly developed formulas.

Spillover levels at both places are cut into older rocks.
Only two morphostratigraphic units are recognized widely in the quadrangle. These represent high stands at the Bonneville level (+5180 ± 20 feet) and at the Provo level …
Measure Theory And Lebesgue Integration, Evan S. Brossard
Measure Theory And Lebesgue Integration, Evan S. Brossard
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
The Lebesgue integral is a generalization of the Riemann integral which extends the collection of functions which are integrable.
Lebesgue integration differs from Riemann integration in the way the approximations to the integral are taken. Riemann approximations use step functions which have a constant value on any given interval of the domain corresponding to some partition. Lebesgue approximations use what are called simple functions which, like the step functions, take on only a finite number of values. However, these values are not necessarily taken on by the function on intervals of the domain, but rather on arbitrary subsets of the …
Numerical Approximation To The Inverse Function Of The Cumulative Chi-Square, T, And F Distribution, Kuo-Chee Liang
Numerical Approximation To The Inverse Function Of The Cumulative Chi-Square, T, And F Distribution, Kuo-Chee Liang
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
In the past, tables have been published for the chi-square, t and F distributions. These tables have their own limitations with respect to the number of percentage points and degrees of freedom that are applicable. For instance, most tables for the chi-square distribution list tabular chi-square value for probabilities, .995, .99, .975, .95, .75, .5, .25, .1, .05, .025, .01, .005, .001, .0005, .0001 with degrees of freedom (1, 30, 1) and (40, 120, 10). However, suppose we want to know the chi-square value for probability .96 with degrees of freedom 10, or probability .95 with degrees of freedom 35; …
Principal Component Factor Analysis, Herbert H. Jolliff
Principal Component Factor Analysis, Herbert H. Jolliff
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Factor analysis came into being around 1900 in the field f psychology to explain theories of human ability. Several methods of factor analysis exist; but according to Harman (1967) principal component factor analysis is unique in the mathematical sense, therefore, quite often the preferred method. The centroid method is computationally easier, and it gives close approximations to the principal component method on some data sets. An example of this is shown in Appendixes B and F by comparison.
Factor analysis is being used in many fields. A few of the fields are sociology, meteorology, political science, medicine, geography, business, economics, …

The Influence Of Petroleum Mulch On The Germination And Yield Of Tomatoes, Clarence Frank Williams
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The effects of petroleum mulches on the emergence and yield of tomatoes were studied at the Farmington Field Station, Greenville Field Station, North Logan, and the greenhouse. The mulches were applied as surface overlays above the seed or incorporating before planting.
Seedling emergence and yields were measured. Data recorded from trials conducted under cool weather conditions indicated that petroleum mulch overlays can be effective in increasing seedling emergence.
The increased seedling emergence with petroleum mulch is due to increased soil temperature, less moisture loss from the surface, and a minimum of soil crust formation.
