Design Criteria For Usu Stilling Basin Pipe Flow To Open Channels, Chi-Yuan Wei
Design Criteria For Usu Stilling Basin Pipe Flow To Open Channels, Chi-Yuan Wei
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Criterion have been developed in this study for designing a stilling basin to serve as a transition from pipe flow to open channel flow. The purpose of the structure is to prevent erosion in an open channel. The unsteadiness, or smoothness, of the water surface in the model basin was used as the criterion for evaluating the effectiveness of the structure for energy dissipation.
The introduction of a short-pipe energy dissipater in the stilling basin has proven effective in dissipating energy. The stilling basin was designed for a fully submerged pipe outlet. The inflow pipe and the dissipator pipe were …

Biosynthesis Of Piperidine-2-Carboxylic Acid In Fluoride-Necrotic Glycine Max, Susan S. Martin
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Synthesis of piperidine-2-carboxylic acid (pipecolic acid) in soybean was studied by infiltration of radioactive carbon labeled precursor and by experiments using enzyme extracts from control and fluoride-fumigated plants.
Pipecolic acid was synthesized from lysine in both control and treated plants. Normal plants, in which pipecolic acid had not been detected by conventional procedures, were capable of synthesizing pipecolic acid. Greater pipecolic acid synthesis was shown in treated plants than in controls, and was attributed to increased enzyme concentration induced by fluoride treatment.

Tests Of Methods That Control Round-Off Error, Dale M. Rasmuson
Tests Of Methods That Control Round-Off Error, Dale M. Rasmuson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Methods of controlling round-off error in one-step methods in the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations are compared. A new Algorithm called theoretical cumulative rounding is formulated. Round-off error bounds are obtained for single precision, and theoretical cumulative rounding. Limits of these bounds are obtained as the step length approaches zero. It is shown that the limit of the bound on the round-off error is unbounded for single precision and double precision, is constant for theoretical partial double precision, and is zero for theoretical cumulative rounding.
The limits of round-off bounds are not obtainable in actual practice. The round-off error …

The intent of this thesis is to investigate, develop, and apply techniques to determine the reliability and maintainability of populations of items. These techniques are to be used in determining the total life-time operating costs of the populations so that those items with the lowest life-time costs can be bought. To do this, the author has explored current techniques for determining compliance to some minimum required Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) in what is referred to as a Phase I testing. After the requirements of Phase I testing have been met, testing may be continued at the option of the …
Algebraic Properties Of Endomorphisms Of Abelian Groups And Rings, Johnnie George Slagle
Algebraic Properties Of Endomorphisms Of Abelian Groups And Rings, Johnnie George Slagle
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The main objective of the thesis was to extend the definition of an M-Group to what is called an M-Ring. From this extension a system called an expanded ring follows naturally. To facilitate the development of the expanded ring, chapter I is devoted to developing properties on systems that are not quite rings where many interesting examples are constructed. In chapter II the definition of an M-Ring is given and some of its properties are derived. In chapter III some of the properties of expanded rings are proved, and examples of expanded rings are given to show their existence.
The Value Of A Trout Stream Fishery, Archie Allen Dyer
The Value Of A Trout Stream Fishery, Archie Allen Dyer
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The data analysis indicated that travel distance, user age, and user income level are important determinants of use of trout streams.
These variables were incorporated into regression analysis to develop a use-prediction model.
This use-prediction model was used to determine predicted use levels of sample streams. The predicted use levels combined with travel costs and expenditures on new fishing equipment were used to derive a statistical estimate of the demand schedules for the sample streams.
These statistical demand curves were subjected to consumer surplus procedures to determine the values of the sample streams.
Differential Cross Section For Electron Positron Pair Production From Neutron Proton Scattering, Robert Dalton Wheeler
Differential Cross Section For Electron Positron Pair Production From Neutron Proton Scattering, Robert Dalton Wheeler
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The differential cross section for a neutron-proton collision forming an electron-positron pair is calculated. The interaction between the neutron and proton is assumed to be pseudo-scalar and that between the proton and the pair electromagnetic. The interaction between the pair and the neutron is assumed negligible.
The methods used to obtain the matrix elements of the process follows that of Möller. The calculation is therefore based on retarded interaction and is relativistic. In obtaining the square of the matrix elements the initial and final polarization states were not considered. The usual projection operator methods were then applied to the intermediate …
