The association of: flies with man has been recorded through many centuries. In nearly all of these records the association is one of discord rather than harmony. In the Book of Exodus, 8:24, in the King James version of the Old Testament, we can read, "...and there came grievous swarms of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses; and in all the land of Egypt the land was corrupted by reason of the swarms of flies." The study to be reported in the following pages is an exploratory investigation of the social experiences, adjustments, and attitudes of Iranian students at the Utah State Agricultural College. It was devised as a preliminary, not a terminal, investigation. Two possible avenues of further research were considered when the scope of the study was delimited.

1. A study of the social experience and adjustment of all foreign students in Logan, irrespective of nationality.
2. A study of the social experience and adjustment of Iranian students--in the United States and after their return home--irrespective of school attended in the United States.

Millions of acres of marshland have been destroyed by the industrial and agricultural development of this continent. Drainage, water diversion, land leveling, and some other factors which destroyed waterfowl habitat were in most instances essential steps in man's progress; but water pollution, unwise drainage, and other soil and water abuses were tragic and unessential steps in our history of land exploitation that have destroyed vast acreages of habitat. The future of waterfowl on this continent hinges upon the success of restoration or new marsh development to replace this destroyed habitat.

Each year thousands of western waterfowl succumb to disease, predators, mechanical injury and other decimating factors . Based on a review of records it is conservatively estimated that an average of 25,000 ducks have succumbed to botulism on western marsh areas annually.

In a recent study, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service valued each duck and goose at $8.00 (McLeod, 1950). Applying this value to the estimated annual numerical loss, a total of $200,000 has been lost each season in mortality of western waterfowl from botulism. Control of this malady would reduce annual waterfowl and monetary losses.

At this early date elk were present in every major region of what is now continental United States, as well as in northern Mexico. they likewise were abundant in upper and lower Canada, though records do Lot corroborate their presence too far north on the Atlantic coast. The occurrence of hybrids, both interspecific and intergeneric, is frequent in the Gramineae generally (Stebbins, 1949), and is especially common in the tribe Hordeae of which both A. trachycaulum and H. jubatum are members. Intergeneric hybrids in this tribe have been studied by Stebbins et al. (1946a, and 1946b), Stebbins and Walters (1949), and Stebbins and Singh (1950) in an effort to determine true phylogenetic relationships on which to base a taxonomic classification, and results of these studies have indicated that the current taxonomic treatment of this tribe is highly artificial. In terms of total digestable nutrients and as an economical source of these nutrients, it is without equal. Other features in which alfalfa excels over other hay crops as a forage are: high yield, palatability, high protein and calcium content, and value as a source of vitamins A and D (4, p. 340). For many years, substitutes for butterfat have been the subject of much controversy. Their acceptance as being nutritionally equal to butterfat has often been question. The importance of this problem lies primarily in its economic and nutritional significance.

A recent study of public attitudes toward dairy products conducted by Alfred Politz Research, Inc. for the American Dairy Association, shows that 48.4 per cent of the population believed that butter is a more nutritions food than oleomargarine. Union High School is located in Roosevelt, Utah, on the Uintah and Duchesne county line.

Students come to Union High School from an area of approximately 30 miles radius around Roosevelt. Included in this area is the Ouray and Uintah Indian reservation.

There are approximately 125 full-blood and mixed-blood Indians who should be attending Union High School. The greater majority of these students live on the reservation named above.

Since 1951, when the majority of the Ute Indian students were transferred from the Indian school, there has been a closer association of full-blood Indian, mixed-blood Indian, and white students. With …

Included in this report was a description of the area and waters involved, data on stream flows, water uses, pollution contributed, effects of pollution, and a discussion of the existing authority of the States of Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah for enforcement of pollution control.

Infestations of the superb plant bug, Adelphocoris superbus (Uhler), in Utah alfalfa fields first came to the attention of entomologists of the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station during their investigations of the seed chalcid and lygus bug problems of alfalfa seed production in the Uinta Basin from 1926 to 1934. Because of its occurrence in considerable numbers, particularly in first crop alfalfa fields with thin stands, the superb plant bug was suspected of interfering with seed development. Consequently an investigation of the activities of this insect was begun in the summer of 1932 and continued through that of 1933.

It is well known that the anterior pituitary gland exerts through its gonadotrophic hormones a definite stimulationg effect on the gonads and that the gonads in turn have a reciprocal endocrine effect on the anterior pituitary. This importance of the anterior pituitary to gonadal function was first demonstrated by P. E. Smith (34).
