PurposeThis study reports on the impact of evaluation studies conducted by Tribal Evaluation Contractors and on tribal capabilities to perform evaluation studies. Five case studies were examined in 1978. This study seeks to identify evidence of change that may have resulted from five Tribal contract evaluations. Attention was focused on the benefits that might be realized from the five tribally-performed evaluations.MethodsFive Tribal Evaluation Contractor (TEC) documents were chosen for review. The five evaluations studied represented wide diversity. The main purpose of this study is to provide information for teachers of Australian Aboriginal children about how learning is achieved 'n a fairly traditionally oriented Aboriginal society. The main stimulus for this study was the recognition that bilingual education is only one aspect of bicultural education, and that on its own vernacular literacy does not sufficiently capitalize on culturally conditioned strengths and expectations about learning processes. Field research was conducted in an isolated Miskito Indian village on the east coast of Nicaragua.

The research presented here is based on the general proposition that a productive way of monitoring and understanding the impact and interrelationships of economics and subsistence is through examining the nutritional process. Economic change involving the sole of a traditional subsistence resource for cash is a particular example of a brooder phenomenon which occurs in many developing areas. Consideration of the larger problem may be phrased: the nutritionaI process may be negatively related to economic change. This negative relationship between nutrition and economics involves …

This report describes a method designed to assess the quality of ambulatory health care in the Indian Health Service. The first part of the evaluation was a description of the design phase of the quality assurance methodology. The second report describes a pilot study in six IHS Service Units, three private practices, and two large Health Maintenance Organizations.
