A Comparison Of Behavioral Self-Management, Bibliotherapy, And Social Pressure Treatment For Obese Adolescents, Carol Germain Mowbray Bruner

Modification of eating behavior in obese adolescents was attempted through self-management training by bibliotherapy with and without personal therapist contact, and compared for weight loss effectiveness to an attention-placebo social pressure treatment, in lieu of a conventional untreated control group. These groups of girls (N=44; ages 11 – 18 years), at least 15% overweight, received, respectively: 1) 10 weekly self-management weight control didactic meetings in a group social pressure settings, plus an instruction manual providing lessons completed at home concerning self-control of eating behavior which were commented upon and returned by the therapist each week (Group 1M+SPo, instruction manual plus …

The Effects Of Sex Role Stereotyping On The Educational And Career Choices Of College Students, Zahra Habibi

The purposes of this study were : (1) to explore the differences in sex-role stereotyping between college students selecting traditionally sex-appropriate fields of study (Traditionals) and students selecting traditionally sex-inappropriate fields of study (Pioneers), and (2) to examine the differences between the two groups in terms of some specific factors assumed to be related to the development of sex-role stereotyping, i.e., specific parental characteristics, peer influence and school experiences.

The first National Indian Conference on Aging was sponsored by the National Tribal Chairmen's Association (NTCA) in Phoenix, AZ on June 15-17, 1976. Close to 1,500 American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people representing 171 tribes came together to speak of their needs and present recommendations for action to improve the quality of their lives.
