This monograph delineates cancer mortality rates among American Indians among and Alaska Natives (AI/ANs) within different regions served by the IHS.This monograph looked at only those Native American deaths between 1989-1993 in which the underlying cause of death was cancer. The IHS obtains the National Center for Health Statistics mortality data tapes for persons listed as Native American. To help control for fluctuation in rates that occur when there is a relatively small population and a small number of deaths, five years of data were examined. Data were examined for all cancer deaths combined as well as for specific types …

Hispanic Pottery As Evidence Of Craft Specialization In Late Colonial New Mexico, 1790-1890, Charles M. Carrillo
Anthropology ETDs
This dissertation argues that some Hispanic villagers living in the frontier colony of New Mexico in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were engaged in pottery manufacture. Population growth and economic changes brought about conditions in which many Hispanics, when disenfranchised from productive farming and ranching, turned first to ceramic manufacture as an alternative strategy and eventually to ceramic craft specialization.

The provision of health care to American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people in Indian Country and urban areas has become increasingly complex. Health care delivery systems are expected to be more flexible even though health care dollars are becoming scarce. To justify national funding and maintain a high quality of health care, baseline measures must be established. A baseline measure is a tool used to monitor the performance of a health care program. Repeated periodically, a baseline measure may provide a direction for change in a health care program over time. With this understanding, the Baseline Measures Workgroup (BMW) …
