The present paper is based primarily on the extensive collection obtained from Mr. W. T. Foster, of Sapucay, Paraguay, and now belonging to the United States National Museum. In addition, the writer hns personally collected in that country, besides having purchased several small collections from that section of South America. To inake the paper as complete as possible, Giglio-Tos's papers have been consulted, and all the forms not represented in the collections studied have been included.

AMONG several discoveries made in the Daimonelix beds (Loup Fork) of Sioux County, Nebraska, the most striking one of the season seems to be that of a new four-horned ancestral antelope, Syndyoceras cooki, the skull of which is herein figured and briefly described. The discovery was made by Mr. Harold G. Cook, a former Lincoln student and a member of the Morrill geological expedition of 1905.

Heretofore, 'the inclination among cattle feeders has been to depend almost entirely upon corn for producing beef, supplying almost any sort of roughness that would satisfy the craving of the animal for something bulky. Since the spring of 1899 the Department of Dairy Husbandry has been conducting experiments in calf rearing by using hand separator skim-milk and light rations of grain.

The first test was published in Bulletin No. 68 of this Station and dealt with a comparison of calves reared by hand with those sucking their dams. The hand-fed calves were reared on skim-milk, ground flaxseed being used to replace the lacking butter fat. This test resulted in a fine lot of calves reared at a very low cost, but it also brought out the fact that much more data were needed in …

The tragedy Hakon Jarl the Mighty was completed toward the latter part of the year 1805 at Halle, Germany. The author, Adam Gottlob Oehlenschlaeger, wrote the work in Danish and later on translated it into German. It was first published in November, 1807, in Nordiske Digte, and was presented for the first time at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, January 30, 1808. Before this, Oehlenschlaeger had used the same materials in his poem, The Death of Hakon Jarl, which appeared in 1802 .. Last December two fine twigs and a cluster of the ripe fruits of the "burro thorn" (Holacantha emoryi Gray) were brought to the Botanical Department of the University of Nebraska by Mrs. Dorothy Bacon, who had collected them in the Salt River valley, near Phoenix, Arizona. They at once attracted attention because of their complete leaflessness, and the thorny nature of their branches. The chief sources of Tennyson's Idylls are, as so well known, Malory's Morte Darthur and the Mabinogion. Secondary sources are the chronicles of Geoffrey of Monmouth, from whom the poet derived a few name-forms like Igerne and Gorlois, and stray touches in the handling, and the anonymous history, ascribed to Nennius, from which (Lancelot and Elaine, ll. 284-315) he derived his account of Arthur's twelve battles. In 1889, Dr. Walther Wüllenweber pointed out that Tennyson seems also to have drawn upon Ellis' Specimens of Early English Metrical Romances, for a few proper names, like Bellicent and Anguisant, not found elsewhere. …

Blackman first reports on his 1903 archeological explorations and lecture presentations.
