A Quantitative Study Of Sexual Behavior Of Mallards And Black Ducks, Paul A. Johnsgard Apr 1960

A Quantitative Study Of Sexual Behavior Of Mallards And Black Ducks, Paul A. Johnsgard

Papers in Ornithology

In recent years an increased interest in the use of behavioral characteristics in evolutionary studies has developed, and this is particularly true in the case of waterfowl. The classical studies of Heinroth (1911), who was one of the first to apply knowledge of waterfowl behavior to systematics, have been elaborated on by Lorenz (1941; 1951-1953) in his important contribution toward the understanding of relationships in the Anatinae. These, and other, studies have stressed the qualitative behavioral differences occurring among different species as providing possible isolating mechanisms through their presumed function of conveying species-specific recognition signals. To the present, no extensive …

An Analysis Of Pheasant Nesting In Southcentral Nebraska, Raymond L. Linder, David L. Lyon, C. Phillip Agee Mar 1960

An Analysis Of Pheasant Nesting In Southcentral Nebraska, Raymond L. Linder, David L. Lyon, C. Phillip Agee

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: Staff Research Publications

The ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) constitutes the most important species of upland game bird in Nebraska. According to Mohler (1960), Nebraska's population is the result of a relatively small introduction; probably not more than 500 pairs were brought into the state between the years 1915 and 1925-the period of initial establishment. Through natural increase and dispersal, aided by a program of trapping and transplanting, a population estimated to be more than one million was reached by 1930 (Swenk, 1930). The statewide population continued an upward trend until the early '40 's and then began to decline. Coincident with …

The Welfare State In France, Wallace C. Peterson Feb 1960

The Welfare State In France, Wallace C. Peterson

University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)

This study is concerned with the extent to which modern France has become a "welfare state." The term "welfare state" is not subject to precise definition, for practically all modern governments are concerned in greater or lesser degree with the well-being of their citizens. But since the publication of the Beveridge Report in 1942, the phrase has become roughly descriptive of government activities which are redistributive in character. The welfare state, in other words, has to do with the use of government power as an instrument for the redistribution of income in society, generally with the dual objectives of greater …
