Genetic Control Of Coumarin Biosynthesis And Β-Glucosidase Activity In Melilotus Alba, G. W. Schaeffer, Francis A. Haskins, H. J. Gorz Sep 1960

Genetic Control Of Coumarin Biosynthesis And Β-Glucosidase Activity In Melilotus Alba, G. W. Schaeffer, Francis A. Haskins, H. J. Gorz

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications

Two pairs of alleles, Cu/cu and g/5, are known to influence coumarin biosynthesis in Melilotus alba Desr. (Goplen e t al., 1957 ; Haskins and Gorz, 1957). Young leaves from CuCuBB plants characteristically contain substant i a l akounta of both free and bound co-in, CuCubb leaves are high in "coumarin" but virtually a l l the substance is in the bound form, and cucuBB and cucubb leaves are low in both forms. Lt has been suggested that the gene is involved in the formation of bound coumarin from coumarin precursors and that the gene is concerned with the conversion …

Extent Of Communities And Abundance Of The Most Common Grasses In Prairie, J. E. Weaver Sep 1960

Extent Of Communities And Abundance Of The Most Common Grasses In Prairie, J. E. Weaver

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications

The area in which True Prairie has been most intensively studied lies wholly within the central Missouri Valley. True Prairie is the characteristic vegetation of the western third of Iowa, the eastern third of Nebraska, and adjacent areas in Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota, and Minnesota. The chief communities (consociations) or types have been ascertained and fully described (13). TheAndropogon scoparius type (names of grasses from HITCHCOCK [5]) was the most extensive of those of uplands and probably exceeded in area all the other grassland types combined. The Sporobolus heterolepis community was of small extent. Stipa spartea was dominant in …

An Analysis Of The Compositional Devices In Wozzek By Alban Berg, John Charles Nelson Jun 1960

An Analysis Of The Compositional Devices In Wozzek By Alban Berg, John Charles Nelson

Open Access Master's Theses (through 2010)

One of the most significant trends in twentieth-century music is that which embodies an abandonment of all of the traditional concepts of tonality.Since it is conceivable that complete freedom of the twelve tones without some logical organization may result in a form of musical anarchy, any investigation of works in the atonal medium should, first of all, determine what devices are used to give order and logic to the work. These devices may then substitute for the cohesive force of tonality which is lacking in atonal works. In order to investigate the compositional devices of the atonalist writers, Wozzeck by Alban Berg …

Engineer intelligence guides were issued to provide guidance concerning collection, processing, production, and dissemination of geographic intelligence to elements of the Corps of Engineers.

This engineer intelligence guide explains the differences between maps and terrain diagrams and provides examples using actual maps and terrain diagrams. The maps and terrain diagrams …

Pamela-Shamela: A Study Of The Criticisms, Burlesques, Parodies, And Adaptations Of Richardson's "Pamela", Bernard Kreissman May 1960

Pamela-Shamela: A Study Of The Criticisms, Burlesques, Parodies, And Adaptations Of Richardson's "Pamela", Bernard Kreissman

University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)

The English novel traces its roots beyond the medieval romance, but it first began to assume recognizable form early in the eighteenth century with such books as Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, Roxanna, and Moll Flanders; Mrs. Behn's Oroonoko and Swift's Gulliver's Travels. It was not until mid-century, however, that it took on its fun lineaments in the works of Richardson, Fielding, Smollett, Sterne, and their followers. The first of these "true" novels, published on November 6, 1740, was Richardson's Pamela: or, Virtue Rewarded. Pamela caught on, enjoyed a great popular vogue, started several schools of fiction, and was directly responsible for …

Csr 381-1, Military Intelligence, Technical Intelligence Relationships, 12 May 1960., Us Army Chief Of Staff, Robert Bolin , Depositor

United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence

This document was issued by the Chief of Staff to prescribe relationships between different officers in the Army staff. Particularly, it was intended to “prescribe relationships between the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence (ACSI), the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics (DCSLOG), and the technical Services in the field of intelligence activities.” This is essentially the same as the 1958 version.

It was published as part of an attempt to solve an ongoing organizational problem: how to coordinate the intelligence activities of the US government.

In the 1950s, military intelligence was decentralized. There was no national-level military intelligence agency. …
