Efficacy Of Physiotherapy Program On Treatment In Dogs With Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Neyran Altinkaya, Erdoğan Kavlak, Fatma Eser Özgenci̇l
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Objective: Osteoarthritis is widely recognized as one of the leading causes of disability in dogs globally, yet there is currently no treatment that can substantially alleviate the condition. Our study aims to assess the impact of a physiotherapy protocol on dogs suffering from osteoarthritis.
Materials and Methods: Twenty dogs were allocated randomly into either the physiotherapy (PTG) or the control group (CG). First day all dogs received a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) injection. Following this, the PTG underwent a four-week physiotherapy program. Outcome measures included goniometric measurements, the 12 meter walking test (12MWT), and The Canine Brief Pain Inventory …

Adaptation Studies Of Kilis Goats To High Mountain Areas And Terrestrial Climate: Effects Of Environmental Factors On Milk Production And Physico-Chemical Properties Of Milk, Hakan Erduran, Sai̇m Boztepe
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This is the first research to investigate the adaptation of lactation milk production and physico-chemical milk properties of dairy goats adapted to warm climates and low altitudes to terrestrial climates and high mountain areas (altitudes of 1500–2000 m) in a grazing-based production system. Kilis goat is a local dairy goat breed of Türkiye, adapted to warm climates and low-altitudes (altitudes of 600–800 m). Animal material was obtained from the National Animal Genetic Resources Breeding Project carried out in Kilis province. Our aim was to compare the milk production and physico-chemical properties of milk from Kilis goats at high altitude with …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Biofilm formation by Salmonella spp. poses significant challenges across environmental, public health, industrial, and medical sectors, with its capacity to form biofilms influenced by environmental and genetic factors. The present study aimed to identify the biofilm morphotypes of Salmonella serotypes (n=120) and investigate the effects of environmental factors (temperature, pH, and salt concentration) by conventional analysis and genetic factors (csrB, csrC, fimA, and fimI genes) on biofilm formation by molecular analysis. Five different serotypes of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica were used in this study, including serotype Infantis (S. Infantis) (n=100), serotype Enteritidis (S. Enteritidis) (n=5), serotype Hadar (S. Hadar) (n=5), …

Bovine fertility remains a critical factor in the economic sustainability of livestock operations, with subclinical endometritis (SE) posing a significant challenge. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of SE research, aiming to elucidate research trends, influential scholars, and key concepts in the field. A total of 483 articles extracted from the Web of Science (WoS) database managed by Clarivate were analyzed using R Studio and the Bibliometrix package. The analysis reveals that SE research initiated in 1992 but experienced a substantial surge between 2014 and 2016. Theriogenology (n = 82) emerges as the most prolific journal in the field. …

Parasites are naturally present in the natural gastrointestinal fauna of marine mammals without necessarily causing any pathology. However, under various stress conditions, parasites can cause pathological disorders in the gastrointestinal system. There is insufficient information on parasite fauna of mammals living in the Black Sea waters off the Turkish coast. This study examined the stomach contents of bycaught and stranded harbour porpoises collected between 2002 and 2003 along the Turkish coast of the western Black Sea for parasitic presence. In a previous stomach content study, 450 nematode fragments (including 232 intact specimens) were occasionally collected from 33 harbour porpoises (27 …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Our study investigated the performance of various maize hybrids across diverse environments and planting densities, with the aim of understanding the complex interaction between genotypes, environmental conditions, and planting practices. A set of 13 experimental maize hybrids and two commercial check hybrids was tested over a 3-year period at eight different locations and under two distinct plant densities using a split-plot design. The results revealed significant variations in grain yield (GY) among hybrids across different environments, suggesting a substantial genotype-by-environment (G × E) interaction effect, particularly of the crossover type. This variability was attributed to fluctuations in environmental factors such …

Background/aim: Most studies on unsuccessful gout treatment suggest that knowledge gaps and inadequate physician interventions are major contributors. However, there is a lack of research on the extent to which patients, educated by knowledgeable and experienced physicians, adhere to these recommendations.
Materials and methods: This study evaluated patients seen in university rheumatology clinics who were adequately informed about diet, target serum uric acid levels, and gout by rheumatologists. We assessed their compliance with treatment, clinical and laboratory findings, and disease status a median of seven years after treatment initiation. A total of 302 gout patients who began treatment in tertiary …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Patients experience moderate-to-severe pain, especially in the first days after lumbar disc surgery. Poorly controlled pain in the postoperative period negatively affects patient outcomes. Dexmedetomidine is a highly selective α2 adrenoceptor agonist with demonstrated analgesic efficacy. However, conflicting results have been reported in the current literature regarding the efficacy of dexmedetomidine in this surgery. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that dexmedetomidine safely improves pain scores and reduces opioid consumption in lumbar microdiscectomy.
Materials and methods: Medical records of patients who underwent lumbar microdiscectomy with general anesthesia between January 2023 and October 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients who …

The Effects Of Liraglutide On Expressions Of Insulin Secretion And Beta Cell Survive Associated Gpcr Genes In Pancreatic Beta Cells, Meli̇kenur Türkol, Türker Bi̇lgen
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Liraglutide as a long-acting glucagon-like peptide drug has anti-hyperglycemic and antiobesity effects. G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are well- known drug target molecules that conduct critical signaling pathways related with diseases. Research has confirmed the role of many GPCRs genes in the regulation of pancreatic beta cell functions and insulin secretion. Liraglutide dependent expressional changes in GPCR genes may let us determine new drug targets.
Materials and methods: Therefore, we investigated the changes in expression of GPR75, GPR56, GLP1R, M3R, and CB1R genes, which are the GPCR family members, in response to liraglutide treatment in the NIT-1 mouse pancreatic beta …

This study presents optical designs of two fibre-fed èchelle spectrographs (FES), which differ from each other in terms of cross-dispersers, and optical analyses of the spectra (orders) obtained from the designs. Optical analyses of both designs were performed by interpreting the results obtained from the spot diagram, footprint diagram, and encircled energy diagram in the ZEMAX (OpticStudio) optical design program. In the first spectrograph design, prisms were used as the cross-disperser. Specifically, two symmetric N-F2 glass prisms with 42-degree apex angles were used as the cross-disperser. In the second design, a grism was used as the cross-disperser. This grism was …

Rapidly rotating atomic gases provide a platform for studying phenomena akin to type-II superconductors and quantum Hall systems. Recently, these systems have attracted renewed interest due to technological advances in the trap anisotropy control, in-situ observation capabilities, and cooling and rotating complex atomic species such as dipolar gases. Understanding the vortex lattice formation and quantum melting is crucial for exploring quantum Hall physics in these systems. In this paper, we theoretically investigate the vortex lattices in anisotropic quantum gases. We formulate the rotating gas Hamiltonian in the Landau gauge, and consider the effects of additional perturbations such as the trap …
