Background/aim: Migraine is a prevalent neurological disorder that can lead to disability in children and adolescents. It is frequently accompanied by psychiatric comorbidities, both internalizing and externalizing disorders. While the relationship between migraine and internalizing disorders has been studied, there is limited research on the link between migraine and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).Materials and methods: A total of 280 pediatric headache patients, 107 with externalizing (ADHD) and 173 with internalizing disorders (depression and/or anxiety), were included. The dataset was composed using the Turkish headache database, Mersin Branch. Pain characteristics, associated symptoms, and accompanying comorbidities were evaluated retrospectively. Results: Two hundred …

Background/aim: Phthalates are the materials used for plasticizing polyvinyl chloride. Di-(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is one of the most frequently used phthalates in a wide range of applications, including medical equipment such as endotracheal and feeding tubes, intravenous catheters, central lines, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation sets, total parenteral nutrition bags, blood product sets, and intravenous pump lines, respiratory sets in neonatal intensive care units. Studies have shown that phthalates, including DEHP, can cross the placenta and blood-brain barrier, possibly leading to neurodevelopmental impairments in vitro and in vivo. However, the molecular mechanisms affected by phthalate exposure have not been explored in depth. …

The existence and function of SVIP and p97/VCP in various types of pancreatic cancer have not yet been investigated. The study's objectives are to examine the expressions of SVIP and p97/VCP in two pancreatic cancer types and to show whether these proteins aid in the invasion and migration of …

Turkish Journal of Biology

Background/aimGriscelli Syndrome Type 2 (GS-2) is a rare, inherited immune deficiency caused by a mutation in the RAB27A gene. Current treatment consists of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Lack of suitable donors warrants the development of alternative treatment strategies, including gene therapy. The development of mutation-specific CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology has opened the way for custom designed gene correction of patient-derived stem cells. Here, we aimed to custom design CRISPR/Cas9 constructs and test their efficiency of homology directed repair (HDR) on the correction of exon 3 and exon 7 mutations in the RAB27A gene of GS-2 patient-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) …

Breast cancer is the most common cancer type and the major cause of death in females worldwide. For effective breast cancer treatment, systems with promising delivery of anticancer agents is an important strategy. Peptide 18 (P18), a tumor homing peptide, shows high binding affinity towards breast cancer cells. Nanoliposomes are known to have enhanced accumulation ability in tumors with longer systemic circulation. Poly (2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (PEtOx) polymers conjugated with DOPE were used to prepare PEtOx-DOPE nanoliposomes. BikDD is a mutant form of Bik gene, a member of the BH3-only proapoptotic genes, mimics the constitutively phosphorylated form of the gene. To the …

Disappearance Of Cdc14 From The Daughter Spindle Pole Body Requires Glc7-Bud14, İdi̇l Kirdök, Ayşe Koca Çaydaşi

Turkish Journal of Biology

Background/aim: The conserved phosphatase Cdc14 facilitates mitotic exit in budding yeast by counteracting mitotic Cyclin Dependent Kinase activity. Cdc14 is kept in the nucleolus until anaphase-onset, when its released transiently into the nucleoplasm. In late-anaphase, Cdc14 is fully released into the cytoplasm upon activation of the Mitotic Exit Network (MEN) to trigger mitotic exit. Cdc14 also localizes to yeast Spindle Pole Bodies (SPB) in anaphase and dephosphorylates key targets that resides at SPBs to license SPB duplication and prime the MEN. Protein Phosphatase 1 (Glc7) with its regulatory-subunit Bud14 is another phosphatase that plays a key role in spatiotemporal control …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Drought is one of the important factors that cause a decrease in productivity and quality in plant cultivation. Stress tolerance in plants can be increased or damage can be reduced by various exogenous applications. One of them is flavonoids, which have an important role in the response to stress through changes that occur at the endogenous level in the plant due to drought stress. The effects of exogenous treatment of chrysin, a member of the flavonoid group, on tomato seedlings grown under water deficit were examined. Different doses (C0: Control with no treatment, C1: 0.1 mM, C2: 0.5 mM and …

Datashak (Amaranthus lividus) are climate-smart, stress-resistant, C4 leafy vegetables. Fourteen datashak genotypes were evaluated in three replicates during summer season at Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University. Results revealed highly significant differences among datashak indicating a wide range of variability. Considering genetic parameters selection could be performed based on total biomass per plant (TBPP), shoot weight (SW), stem weight (StW), and shoot length (SL) for improving the biological yield (BY) of datashak. The correlation results revealed that almost all the features showed a significant increase in the BY of datashak. StW, root length, leaf weight, and SW demonstrated a strong …

The use of “health-food additives” has gained significant attention within the dairy sector, with a focus on enhancing the nutritional intake of dairy cows to improve their productivity and reproductive performance. This study aims at examining the impact of rumen-protected methionine (Met) and lysine (Lys) supplementation on production and reproductive parameters in a sample of 100 dairy cows, comprising 32 primiparous and 68 multiparous cows with an average of 5.24±2.31 years. The cows’ average milk production was determined to be 24.9±7.40 kg/day. The cows were divided into two groups, one receiving Met/Lys supplementation and the other serving as a control …
