In this study, the reproduction of Nemipterus randalli, one of the lessepsian fish catch from the Gulf of Antalya, Turkey was interpreted histologically. Regarding the fish used in this study (N = 1715), it is noteworthy to mention that male individuals are larger than females. The first sexual maturity in males was determined 17 cm TL and 60 g in BW, whereas 13 cm TL and 25 g BW in females. Females reached sexual maturity at age I+ and males at the age of II+. Çatalburun (Fork-nose) dogs are the members of Turkey?s indigenous gene pool. Although there are some studies on phenotypic identification of this breed, there is no study on genetic characterization. This study aimed to define the detailed morphological and genetic characteristics of this breed. For this purpose, initially, some morphological traits in 100 Çatalburun dogs were measured. This study utilized a model based on the least square support vector machine (LSSVM) for the prediction of body weight (BW) of sheep. Two heuristic algorithms, namely, coupled simulated annealing (CSA) and simplex method (S) were applied to tune the hyperparameters of the LSSVM model. The hybrid CSA-S-LSSVM method is then applied to the male, female and total data of the Harnai sheep breed of Pakistan. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of limestone replacement with dietary micro-calcium carbonate (MCC) on performance, egg quality, and serum Ca metabolism in peak-phase laying hens. A total of 120 laying hens (30 wk of age) were assigned to 1 control or 4 treatment groups for 8 weeks. Half of the total limestone was replaced by calcite in different particle sizes in the treatment groups (1, 20, 40, and 100 µm) and by fine limestone (~2 mm) in control. During the experiment, egg production and mass decreased (p < 0.05); however, eggshell thickness increased in hens fed with calcite groups compared to the control fed birds. There was a contrast between control vs. treatment, and a negative linear trend (p = 0.11) with the particle sizes for feed conversion ratio (FCR) was recorded. The different particle size of calcite had no effect on feed consumption, egg quality parameters, and hematology parameters of serum. However, the serum calcium (p = 0.01) and vitamin D (p < 0.0001) levels were affected by calcite, serum parathyroid hormone, calcitonin, phosphorus levels, and Ca:P ratio were not affected. The effects of dietary calcite sources may differ from conventional or nano-sized calcium carbonate sources in laying hens, especially for Vit D metabolism.

Candidate gene approach facilitates searching causative polymorphisms that influence quantitative traits. Biosynthesis of estrogen catalyzed by aromatase, a product of the CYP19 gene affect lactogenesis. The objective of the study was to determine the polymorphism in the promoter region of CYP19 gene by PCR-RFLP and was undertaken on 502 bovine species belonging to Ongole (Bos indicus), Holstein Friesian crossbred, Jersey crossbred cattle, and Murrah buffaloes reared across Southern India. The frequency of the CYP19A allele was 0.90, 0.88, and 0.77 in Jersey crossbred, HF crossbred, and Ongole cattle, respectively. The BB genotypes could not be observed in Jersey crossbred cattle. …

Studies with compost bedded pack dairy barn system (CBDB) are still recent in Brazil. Thus, we used principal component and canonical correlation analysis to characterize and verify the relationship between compost bedded variables (CB) and bulk tank milk variables (BTM). Data are from 8 dairy farms comprising August to October 2018, in the northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. Results indicated a heterogeneous BTM composition and CB management among dairy farms, besides a strong relationship between the two sets of variables (1st pair, rc = 0.972; p = 0.0253). An in vitro trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of different unsaturated fatty acids (UFA) sources plus crude glycerin (CGL) on gas production and rumen biohydrogenation (RBH). Incubated diet corresponded to diets containing corn silage (30%) and concentrate (70%) composed of corn, urea, mineral salts, CGL, and different UFA sources as follows: no additional fat (NAF), rumen protected fat (RPF), soybean oil, linoleic acid (LA) or alpha-linolenic acid (LN). Methane concentrations in LA and LN were lower compared to NAF (p < 0.001), but when CH4 was expressed as a proportion of total gas, NAF and RPF showed the greatest values among evaluated UFA sources (p = 0.001). 18:1 t11 concentration showed a faster increase from 0 to 1 h and a slower decrease from 1 to 36 h of incubation, irrespective of UFA source. A higher C18:1 t11 production rate was observed from 1 h to 5 h of incubation, where LA and LN have higher values compared to NAF and RPF diets (p < 0.001). Diets with a high content of LA may be efficient as a nutritional approach to reduce methane production and RBH, resulting in positive effects on vaccenic acid concentrations.

Mucopolysaccharidosis IIID (MPS IIID) or Sanfilippo D syndrome is an inherited lysosomal storage disease and caused by a deficiency of the N-acetylglucosamine-6-sulfatase activity, which involves in the catabolism of heparan sulfate. In addition to humans, canine, feline and murine, goats have been reported as possessing this lysosomal storage disease. The molecular defect in the MPS IIID goat has been previously identified. Background and aim: This study aimed to determine the frequency of relapse, the risk factors for relapse, and the correlation of relapse with immunosuppressive regimens in patients with granulomatosis polyangiitis (GPA). Materials and methods: The demographic characteristics, the clinical, laboratory, and radiological findings, the immunosuppressive treatment regimens, and the remission and relapse rates of 50 patients with GPA were obtained retrospectively from medical records. Results: The mean relapse-free survival rates at years 1, 3, and 5 were 82%, 60%, and 50%, respectively.
