Responses Of Salvia Nemorosa L. To Silver Nanoparticle And Methyl Jasmonate Stimuli Under Salt Stress, Bi̇lal Andi̇ç, Pinar Orcan
Turkish Journal of Botany
The present study evaluated the effects of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) and silver nanoparticles (AgNP) on Salvia nemorosa L. under NaCl stress. To this end, total soluble sugar, total phenolic and flavonoid contents, total antioxidant capacity, H2O2 content, photosynthetic pigment, MDA, and proline contents, and enzymatic antioxidant activities were assessed. When the results for photosynthetic pigment contents were evaluated, the highest levels of total carotenoid content, chlorophyll a, and chlorophyll b were obtained with NaCl + AgNP + MeJA treatment. Under NaCl stress, MDA and H2O2 levels increased, but they decreased when AgNP and MeJA were applied. All treatment groups had …

Not Just Any Tree: The Influence Of Leaf Characteristics On The Nest Site Selection Ofasian Weaver Ants, Amira Aqilah Muhammad, Noorhidayah Mamat, Kien-Thai Yong, Nurul Ashikin Abdullah
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The connection between plant species and nest site preference for the Asian weaver ant Oecophylla smaragdina remainspoorly understood despite their common occurrence in the urban areas of tropical regions. We predicted that plant species with specificleaf characteristics influence the nesting preference of Asian weaver ants, given that plant foliage is the main component of their neststructure. We studied the leaf characteristics of the tree species in which their nests were detected, including leaf shape, leaf apex shape, and leaf arrangement. Of the 206 total trees among the 20 tree species sampled, 185 trees from 18 tree species had at least one …

Di-(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is one of the most frequently used phthalates in a wide range of applications, including medical equipment such as endotracheal and feeding tubes, intravenous catheters, central lines, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation sets, total parenteral nutrition bags, blood product sets, and intravenous pump lines, respiratory sets in neonatal intensive care units. Studies have shown that phthalates, including DEHP, can cross the placenta and blood-brain barrier, possibly leading to neurodevelopmental impairments in vitro and in vivo. However, the molecular mechanisms affected by phthalate exposure have not been explored in depth. …

The Kashmir Himalayas, a region of immense ecological importance, have experienced profound degradation by land-use changes, raising concerns about sustainability. This degradation carries significant global implications, including carbon loss, soil quality deterioration, habitat destruction, and loss of biodiversity. This study investigates various key land uses, including economically vital cash crops such as apples and saffron, the socially significant staple food crop rice, forest, and pasture systems. Findings reveals that forest and pasture maintain significantly better physical, chemical, microbial, and enzymes activities, and exhibit greater soil nutrient reserves and soil organic carbon (SOC) pools. Specifically, forest soils contain 20.21%, 28.22%, and …

Drought is one of the important factors that cause a decrease in productivity and quality in plant cultivation. Stress tolerance in plants can be increased or damage can be reduced by various exogenous applications. One of them is flavonoids, which have an important role in the response to stress through changes that occur at the endogenous level in the plant due to drought stress. The effects of exogenous treatment of chrysin, a member of the flavonoid group, on tomato seedlings grown under water deficit were examined. Different doses (C0: Control with no treatment, C1: 0.1 mM, C2: 0.5 mM and …

The use of “health-food additives” has gained significant attention within the dairy sector, with a focus on enhancing the nutritional intake of dairy cows to improve their productivity and reproductive performance. This study aims at examining the impact of rumen-protected methionine (Met) and lysine (Lys) supplementation on production and reproductive parameters in a sample of 100 dairy cows, comprising 32 primiparous and 68 multiparous cows with an average of 5.24±2.31 years. The cows’ average milk production was determined to be 24.9±7.40 kg/day. The cows were divided into two groups, one receiving Met/Lys supplementation and the other serving as a control …

Cow behavior is a crucial indicator for monitoring health, reproductive status, and welfare in livestock management. However, methods that rely on wearable devices often face significant challenges, including high costs, maintenance difficulties, and potential impacts on animal welfare. To address these limitations, this study explored the potential of using YOLOv8, a cutting-edge computer vision model, for non-invasive monitoring of cow behavior. The research methodology involved four key steps: data collection, preliminary data processing, model training, and validation. The findings revealed that YOLOv8 is capable of accurately detecting and localizing key cow behaviors—lying, standing, eating, and ruminating—achieving a mean average precision …
