Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted college students’ mental health and wellbeing. Even before the pandemic, young adults reported high mental health morbidity. During the pandemic, young adult college students faced unprecedented challenges, including campus closure and a pivot to fully online education.
Methods: This study employed a novel participatory approach to a Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) in an introductory epidemiology course to examine factors students considered important regarding their experience during the pandemic. Two groups of undergraduate students enrolled in this course (one in Fall 2020 and another in Spring 2021) and participated in the CURE. A …

Radio Frequency Identification (Rfid) And Libraries In The Era Of Technology, Ansaar Hussain, Tabasum Zehra Ms
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a new concept to be introduced in libraries of India and more particularly in the libraries of Jammu & Kashmir. The technology has helped libraries to create an atmosphere of security and proper vigilance. It has not only helped libraries to reduce the staff interference with the patrons but has also improved the efficiency of service deliverance as well. This paper aims to highlight the need for the adoption of RFID technology in libraries and other similar institutions. The paper gives an in-depth coverage of an RFID system. It starts with an introduction to RFID …

Patterns And Processes In The History Of Body Size In Turritelline Gastropods, Jurassic To Recent, Carlie Pietsch, Michael Gigliotti, Brendan M. Anderson, Warren D. Allmon
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Body size is an important trait with implications for energy use and ecology as well as generation time and evolutionary rates. Turritelline gastropods are widely distributed through geologic time and space, making them an excellent group for evaluating macroevolutionary patterns. To evaluate the pattern of body-size change in turritelline gastropods, we compiled a dataset of shell lengths of 316 species of turritelline gastropods spanning the Jurassic to Recent. Type specimens were almost always significantly larger than specimen distributions from the same species. We found that turritelline gastropod size was inversely correlated with latitude, a trend likely driven by the Neogene-Recent …

Abstract
Resource sharing and networking are among the noticeable phenomenon which have not been given necessary attention it deserves as a result of which most libraries are not meeting the information needs and services of their users as at when due. This paper highlights evolving networking and resource sharing among academic libraries in Nigeria. It was discovered that most of the library in developing countries are faced with the precarious issue of non-availability of qualitative services to their numerous library users due to inadequate budget allocation for library, uncooperative or inept attitude of most libraries professionals. Hence, in an effort …

Characteristics And Nature Of Academic Staff’S User Experiences In Electronic Library Database Utilisation, Kachollom Chollom, Alfred Michael Obaje, Thomas A. Adigun
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Abstract
Introduction. The use of electronic library databases (e-library databases) by academic staff is accepted globally as contributing immensely-to academic staff research work. However, based on one of the researchers’ experiences as a Subject Librarian as well as context-specific issues that arose from the existing literature, e-library databases are underutilised by academic staff at the University of Jos and similar institutions in North-Central Nigeria. Many previous studies on the use of e-library databases by academic staff in Nigerian universities were centred on the quantitative survey methodology, which lack in-depth perspectives of academics’ experiences. Thus, additional qualitative insights are necessary. Hence, …

Foregrounding The Code: Computational Chemistry Instructional Activities Using A Highly Readable Fluid Simulation Code, Gianmarc Grazioli, Adam Ingwerson, David Santiago, Patrick Regan, Hee Kun Cho
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Computational chemistry instructional activities are often based around students running chemical simulations via a graphical user interface (GUI). GUI-based activities offer many advantages, as they enable students to run chemical simulations with a few mouse clicks. Although these activities are excellent for introducing students to the capabilities of chemical simulations, the disadvantage is that the students’ experience is not representative of how professional computational chemists work. Just as it is important that students in an organic chemistry instructional lab gain hands-on experience with equipment commonly used by professional organic chemists, students of computational chemistry must gain hands-on experience with coding, …

The Internet, and in particular, social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApps, YouTube and many others, are obviously “overtaking the world” and could be regarded as “a global consumer phenomenon”. Social media usage is one of the most common activities among children, adolescents, and emerging adults nowadays. It offers today’s youth a portal for entertainment and communication and it is becoming one of the main platforms for accessing information and news. This aggressive adoption of social media among the younger generation could be attributed to their up to date knowledge of the latest technology and convenient accessibility to these social …

Faculty-in-Residence (FIR) programs, where students interact with faculty outside of the classroom, have shown positive effects on student success. However, most research does not look at FIR programs from a holistic perspective that examines the impact on faculty. This study investigates the perceived impact on faculty participating in FIR programs. The results add to current literature that faculty-student interactions outside of the classroom are significant for students and faculty, specifically faculty perceptions of performance in teaching and service. The results also indicate positive perceptions by faculty in research performance due to participation in the FIR program. This finding is surprising …

Accurate accounting of emissions and removals of CO2 is critical for the planning and verification of emission reduction targets in support of the Paris Agreement. Here, we present a pilot dataset of country-specific net carbon exchange (NCE; fossil plus terrestrial ecosystem fluxes) and terrestrial carbon stock changes aimed at informing countries' carbon budgets. These estimates are based on "top-down"NCE outputs from the v10 Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO-2) modeling intercomparison project (MIP), wherein an ensemble of inverse modeling groups conducted standardized experiments assimilating OCO-2 column-Averaged dry-Air mole fraction (XCO2) retrievals (ACOS v10), in situ CO2 measurements or …
