A bridge replacement project on SR 337 over Lost River encountered karst features during foundation design, which ended up altering the preliminary span arrangement and overall bridge length. Through geophysical assessment, a large void was discovered under the bridge location, particularly the preliminary pier location. Construction updates, lessons learned, and perspectives on project challenges and solutions will be shared by a bridge designer and consultant project manager.

As telecommunication companies are pushing towards 5G technology and the installation of small cell facilities in residential areas, the City of Fishers has been at the front of state legislation. They passed an ordinance in 2017 that requires telecommunication companies to follow a waiver process that allows residents to work directly with the telecommunication companies on the placement of cell facilities. As state regulations continue to change, Fishers has modified the waiver process to continue to allow public input. Join this session to learn more.

This consolidation allowed for a cohesive public message through proactive public involvement. Bats’ use of bridges is well documented. With more bat species being added to the endangered species list, this is a significant issue for maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement.
