Recent Studies on Precipitation-Hardened High-Entropy Alloys (HEAs) Demonstrate their High Strength and Thermal Stability, Making Them Promising Materials for High-Temperature Structural Applications Such as Nuclear Reactors. However, Many Existing HEAs Contain Cobalt (Co), Which is Unsuitable for Nuclear Applications Because of the Long-Term Activation Issue of Co. Co is Also Expensive and Considered a Critical Material for Other Applications. Therefore, It is Desired to Exclude Co from the Composition. a Co-Free (Fe0.3Ni0.3Mn0.3Cr0.1)88Ti4Al8 HEA Was Developed and Studied in This Work. in Contrast to Previous Co-Free HEAs, This Alloy is …

For regression models where data are obtained from sampling surveies, the statistical analysis is often based on approaches that are either non-robust or inefficient. The handling of survey data requires more appropriate techniques, as the classical methods usually result in biased and inefficient estimates of the underlying model parameters. This article is concerned with the development of a new approach of obtaining robust and efficient estimates of regression model parameters when dealing with survey sampling data. Asymptotic properties of such estimators are established under mild regularity conditions. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, Monte Carlo simulation experiments are …

Guayule resin was investigated through mixture to assess its role in the field performance. For performance comparisons, conventional asphalt, neat guayule, asphalt-rubber-guayule, and guayule-rubber binders were implied. Field-simulated lab mixtures were made to investigate the major distresses. Modified Lottman, rut, semicircular bending, and disk-shaped compact tension tests were used to assess stripping, rutting, fatigue, and thermal cracking resistances. Stripping and rutting susceptibilities were also assessed by Hamburg wheel-tracking test. The outcomes disclosed that when the modified Lottman test was used, guayule containing a 7% air content was more susceptible to stripping than that containing a 3.5% air content, resulting in …

This letter proposes a novel deep learning (DL) based fast solver for the electromagnetic forward (EMF) process. This proposed fast full-wave solver for EMF process is designed based on the deep conditional convolutional autoencoder (DCCAE), consisting of a complex-valued deep convolutional encoder network and its corresponding complex-valued deep convolutional decoder network. The encoder network makes use of the input consisting of the incident electromagnetic (EM) wave and the contrast (permittivities) distribution of the target domain, while the corresponding decoder network predicts the total EM field illuminated by the input incident EM wave. The training of the proposed DCCAE solver for …

Apparatus-Dependent Corrections To The Electron G-2 Revisited, Ulrich D. Jentschura
Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
We revisit the derivation of the apparatus-dependent correction to the energy levels of quantum cyclotron states, as previously outlined [Boulware et al., Phys. Rev. D 32, 729 (1985)PRVDAQ0556-282110.1103/PhysRevD.32.729]. We evaluate the leading corrections to the axial, magnetron, cyclotron, and spin-projection-dependent energy levels due to the altered photon field quantization in the vicinity of a conducting wall. Our work significantly extends previous considerations. Quantum cyclotron states are used for the determination of the electron g factor in Penning traps. Our calculations show that the numerically largest apparatus-dependent corrections can be expected for the axial and magnetron frequencies, where they can be …

With applications in bioremediation, biosensing, and bioenergy, microbial electrochemical systems are a rapidly growing, multidisciplinary field within biological, chemical, and materials science. Since these systems use living microorganisms as biocatalysts, it is important to understand how microbial physiology, namely biofilm formation, affects these electrochemical systems. Specifically, the literature lacks research that assesses the effects of biofilm on metabolic current output in mediated electron transfer systems. in this study, Rhodobacter capsulates and Pseudomonas putida GPo1 were used as model, nonpathogenic strains that facilitate electron transfer via diffusible redox mediators. Nitric oxide has gained attention in biomedicine as a gaseous signaling molecule, …

In this work, a wave-equation-based discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method hybridized with the Robin transmission condition (DG-RTC) is developed to solve the frequency-domain electromagnetic (EM) problems. The proposed DG method directly discretizes the vector electric field wave equation in each subdomain, and subsequently, a term named numerical flux is introduced at the subdomain interfaces to connect the solutions between neighboring subdomains. However, the numerical flux depends not only on the electric field E but also on the magnetic field H residing over the interface. Thereby, another equation is essential for solving E and H simultaneously. Realizing that H only situates at …

Designing more efficient, reliable, and explainable neural network architectures is critical to studies that are based on artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. Numerous efforts have been devoted to exploring the best structures, or structural signatures, of well-performing artificial neural networks (ANN). Previous studies, by post-hoc analysis, have found that the best-performing ANNs surprisingly resemble biological neural networks (BNN), which indicates that ANNs and BNNs may share some common principles to achieve optimal performance in either machine learning or cognitive/behavior tasks. Inspired by this phenomenon, rather than relying on post-hoc schemes, we proactively instill organizational principles of BNNs to guide the redesign …
