Hydrocracking Of Model Coal Derived Liquid Components Over A Zeolite Catalyst. (Volumes I And Ii) (Fluorene, Decalin)., William David Constant
Hydrocracking Of Model Coal Derived Liquid Components Over A Zeolite Catalyst. (Volumes I And Ii) (Fluorene, Decalin)., William David Constant
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Hydrocracking of fluorene was investigated over a nickel loaded Y zeolite in a fixed bed flow reactor using decalin as a donor solvent. This system served as a model for typical commercial donor solvent operations in order to develop a representative kinetic model and propose a reaction mechanism for refining of coal derived liquids. After performing a qualitative investigation, base operating conditions of 661(DEGREES)K, 14.8 bar total pressure, 20 weight percent fluorene in decalin and a hydrogen to hydrocarbon ratio of 42 at a space-time of 4.8 seconds were established for the process. For each experimental series, the variable of …
The Relationship Between Photosynthesis And The Capacity For Nitrogen Fixation In Soybean., Eddie Paul Millhollon
The Relationship Between Photosynthesis And The Capacity For Nitrogen Fixation In Soybean., Eddie Paul Millhollon
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Diurnal trends in leaf carbohydrate partitioning and nodule activity in soybeans under natural conditions and the irradiance level required to allocate sufficient carbohydrate to obtain maximum rates of N(,2)(C(,2)H(,2)) reduction were studied. Soybeans grown outdoors maintained constant levels of soluble carbohydrates in the leaves and constant rates of N(,2) fixation and root + nodule respiration when root temperature was kept constant but shoot temperature varied. When plants were subjected to a 40-hour dark period, then exposed to 200 to 1000 (mu)E m('-2) sec('-1), 200 (mu)E m('-2) sec('-1) resulted in maximum leaf soluble carbohydrate and nodule activity. Results suggest that nodule …
The Status Of Keyboard Harmony In Nasm-Approved Colleges In The Southeastern United States (Class Piano, Functional Skills)., Dona Sanders Lusted
The Status Of Keyboard Harmony In Nasm-Approved Colleges In The Southeastern United States (Class Piano, Functional Skills)., Dona Sanders Lusted
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine the status of keyboard harmony in NASM-Approved colleges and universities in the eleven states in the Southern Division of MENC. Most music educators recognize the importance of keyboard harmony in the college music curriculum. However, much controversy appears to exist as to the position keyboard harmony should occupy at the college level. Music educators disagree as to whether keyboard harmony should be taught in the theory class, piano class, and/or as a separate course. Questionnaires were mailed to the 124 schools which met the above delimitations, of which 70 percent were usable …
The Effects Of Widescreen Television On Local And National Newscaster Credibility: An Experimental Study., Donald Ray Mott
The Effects Of Widescreen Television On Local And National Newscaster Credibility: An Experimental Study., Donald Ray Mott
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine if there were any perceived differences in credibility between the widescreen television treatment, standard screen treatment and national and local newscasters. The data revealed no significant differences as a result of the widescreen television treatment. In addition, no significant main effects were observed between the newscaster treatments, "local" and "national," suggesting that as a group, viewers do not appear to have any predispositional attitudes dependent upon specific criteria toward the credibility of either type of newscaster. The design of the experiment was a classic 2 x 2 factorial design. The stimulus was …
Ordered Models For The Lambda Calculus., Frederick Joseph Sullivan
Ordered Models For The Lambda Calculus., Frederick Joseph Sullivan
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Although the (lamda)-calculus has been studied for over fifty years, the first models for the lambda calculus were constructed by Dana Scott in 1972. Scott's models were constructed using inverse limits of continuous lattices. We investigate this inverse limit construction in the context of up-complete posets with zero. We show that the correspondence between an up-complete poset with zero P and its associated model for the (lamda)-calculus defines a monofunctor between appropriate categories. We calculate the values in the model corresponding to several combinators in the lambda calculus. Finally, we investigate certain submonoids of the monoid of combinators. We show …
Weierstrass Points On Gorenstein Curves., Carl Archer Widland
Weierstrass Points On Gorenstein Curves., Carl Archer Widland
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This thesis generalizes the classical definition of a Weierstrass point to integral projective Gorenstein curves. For X an integral projective Gorenstein curve of arithmetic genus g at least two, pick P(epsilon)X, and call the sheaf of dualizing differentials (omega). For a proper closed subscheme Z of X with support P and ideal sheaf I, define the degree of Z to be dim(,(//C)) O(,P)/I(,P). Call Z 1-special if dim(,(//C))Hom(I,O(,X)) (GREATERTHEQ) 1. In a manner analogous to the classical construction, one defines the wronskian of X to be some element (alpha) of (H('0) (X,(omega)('(CRTIMES) 1/2(g('2)+g)))). One defines the Weierstrass weight W(P) to …

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Solution-phase pH, soluble salts, NH(,4)-N+NO(,3)-N, P and K were compared over a 140-day period in 1982 for five phosphatic sources (0-18-0, 0-46-0, 29-26-0, 18-48-0, 11-55-0) incoporated at three rates in a pine bark-sand medium (4:1 v/v). Treatment effects on visual quality of five ornamental species, media-bound and leaf-tissue nutrient levels (gardenia species) and shoot dry weights (gardenia species) were also investigated. Compared to the check, media amended with each of the P sources were generally lower in pH. Solution-phase nitrogen (NH(,4)-N+NO(,3)-N) levels for the 0-18-0 or 0-46-0 sources were significantly lower than that of the other P sources and the …
A Study Of The Texture Measurement Definition Problem (Image Analysis)., Ramon Emilio Vasquez-Espinosa
A Study Of The Texture Measurement Definition Problem (Image Analysis)., Ramon Emilio Vasquez-Espinosa
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The problem of texture measurement definition is studied. A theory is presented in order to overcome the problem. This theory includes a conceptual framework for the general measurement definition problem. This framework is based on the concepts of a perceptual transform, a perceptual space, a measurement transform and a similarity transform. Using this conceptual framework and a particular choice for the similarity transform, a set of requirements are defined. These requirements can be used to create a formal method for defining measurements off the GLC matrices. The formal procedure is based on preserving perceptual relationships among textures. To apply this …
Love And Rebellion: Louisiana Women Novelists, 1865-1919 (Wetmore)., Susan Millar Williams
Love And Rebellion: Louisiana Women Novelists, 1865-1919 (Wetmore)., Susan Millar Williams
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This dissertation is a study of minor Louisiana women novelists from the end of the Civil War to the passage of women's suffrage. A large number of Louisiana women were spurred to write novels by the war and Reconstruction, motivated by both financial considerations and the need to explain their lives. They use conventional forms, like the plantation romance, but the stories they tell suggest that women were ambivalent about Southern traditions and the old order. In breaking down the social codes which both protected and repressed Louisiana women, the Civil War and the Reconstruction led Louisiana women novelists to …

Quasi Elastic Electron Scattering In Uranium-238 (Longitudinal, Sum-Rule, Pion, Nuclear, Structure)., Charles Carroll Blatchley
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Electron scattering data from the MIT-Bates linear accelerator were used to derive longitudinal and transverse response functions (S(,L), S(,T)) for the quasi-elastic (QE) kinematic region from uranium targets. Incident energies ranged from 100 to 690 MeV at five laboratory scattering angles: 60, 90, 134.5, 140, and 160 degrees. The Rosenbluth separations using all five angles were obtained at three momentum transfers (q) from 250 to 500 meV/c. Both response functions compared well to relativistic Fermi Gas Model (FGM) predictions at higher values of q, but the S(,L) peak was progressively lower and broader than the FGM at lower q. This …

A Comparison Of Two Developmental Models Of Concept Learning., Roberta Naomi Chinn
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Recent research has identified changes in the strategies used and the shape of learning curves of children learning concepts as a function of developmental level. Two recent models have been proposed to explain these changes. One model views these changes as an improvement of hypothesis-testing strategies. The other model views these changes as a switchover from reliance on one type of learning process to a second type of learning process. The present study compared the two models with respect to the strategies used and the shape of the learning curves of four grade levels of subjects. One hundred twenty-nine children …
