In recent years, so called Speech Act Theory (a branch of the philosophy of language) has focused on such concepts as 'intention' (or 'intentionality'), 'interaction' and 'comprehension'. The author believes that this theory gives the theoretical basis for an interpretation model which is developed in this study. After human speech activities are placed in the larger context of human actions, a model which explains the performing process of speech acts is presented. In this model, four levels of intentionality are posited: utterance intent, propositional intent, illocutionary intent, and perlocutionary intent. These levels of intentionality are inseparable from each other and …

Relations Between The Maritimes And The Supreme Court Of Canada: The Patterns Of The Early Years, James G. Snell

When establishment of a supreme court for the young Canadian Confederation was first mooted after 1867, reaction in the Maritimes was strikingly positive. The Halifax Morning Chronicle, for example, which by no means was yet reconciled to the new British North American union and which saw the court quite accurately as "securing and centralizing the judicial authority in Canada," nevertheless conceded the indispensability of such an institution: If this Confederation continues to exist of course such a court will be a necessity. This study aimed to replicate in South Africa a survey by Guiltinan et al (1980) on the effect on coordination in a franchise channel of: Franchise authority; franchise influence; helpfulness of communications; automony; and uncertainty. The results will be of value to both franchisors and franchisees. In addition the results in South Africa are very similar to the United States study. This has important implications for United States companies wanting to expand their operations to South Africa.

The main objective of this article is to establish whether the top industrial companies in South Africa have become marketing orientated during the last ten years or so. A study was undertaken amongst 44 of the top hundred companies in South Africa during 1983. The study found that South African industrial companies certainly have become more marketing orientated. The 'average' Industrial company has a marketing department. It's marketing executive sits on the board of directors. He/she has a bachelors degree and over ten years experience. He/she has a limited financial role in the organization but has a large production planning …

The Phoenix Center, presently of Arlington, Texas is the largest bird rehabilitation center in North Texas. It is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation of Texas avian wildlife and has been rapidly expanding during the last several years. The Center is currently engaged in acquiring land and donations for the construction of new facilities. A preliminary site plan for the new facility was prepared by Professor James Turner's graduate landscape class, LARC 5674 during the fall semester 1982. In order to provide high quality specialized instruction and to achieve voluntary integration, a magnet program was developoed in the Fort Worth (Texas) Independent School District.The program is in its third year. of implementation and currently is underway in two high schools, two middle schools, and an elementary school. Program features included use of uniform entry criteria for all races, preparation of students prior to entering a minority neighborhood school, business community involvement through adoption,utilization of results from other districts' definition of performance standards, and consistency abiding by them. This article deals with the evolution of the theory concerning channels of distribution. Although distribution strategy is an important element of the marketing mix, one can argue that it is the element least thought or written about. The reasons for this are not clear. Perhaps distribution channel is the least glamorous part of marketing theory and yet the most problematic. The authors deal with the evolution of distribution channels in this article as well as co-operation and conflict in the channel of distribution.
