Abc It's Easy As...: Clarifying Alphabet Knowledge Development In Preschool Populations, Lauren Arielle Mckeever
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Alphabet Knowledge (AK) is a critical precursor to literacy development. Despite a clear linkage between AK and childhood reading and later academic success, the progression of how this skill is acquired remains unclear. Through a series of investigations, this dissertation examined the assessment and intervention of AK in preschool populations.
The first study was a systematic review to delineate aspects of AK, focusing on instructional practices, measurement techniques, and how they align. This study synthesized existing literature on AK through a systematic review of 32 studies to identify common themes related to AK definitions, instructional content, and measurement approaches. The …

Demonstrating and modeling changes in ecosystem processes in the laboratory classroom can be logistically difficult and expensive. This complexity often leaves little time for students to generate and test hypotheses. Yet, we must foster student understanding of how matter and energy move through ecosystems to develop an appreciation of how current ecosystems function and how human-mediated global change may alter ecosystem processes. In this lesson, we describe an adaptation of the Tea Bag Index (TBI) that provides students with an inexpensive, adaptable, and easily replicated method for testing how an ecosystem function (i.e., decomposition by microorganisms) alters carbon flow …

Recent works have introduced GNN-to-MLP knowledge distillation (KD) frameworks to combine both GNN's superior performance and MLP's fast inference speed. However, existing KD frameworks are primarily designed for node classification within single graphs, leaving their applicability to graph classification largely unexplored. Two main challenges arise when extending KD for node classification to graph classification: (1) The inherent sparsity of learning signals due to soft labels being generated at the graph level; (2) The limited expressiveness of student MLPs, especially in datasets with limited input feature spaces. To overcome these challenges, we introduce MuGSI, a novel KD framework that employs Multi-granularity …

Calculations From On The Existence Of Periodic Traveling-Wave Solutions To Certain Systems Of Nonlinear, Dispersive Wave Equations, Jacob Daniels
Mathematics and Statistics Student Research and Class Projects
In the field of nonlinear waves, particular interest is given to periodic traveling-wave solutions of nonlinear, dispersive wave equations. This thesis aims to determine the existence of periodic traveling-wave solutions for several systems of water wave equations. These systems are the Schr¨odinger KdV-KdV, Schr¨odinger BBM-BBM, Schr¨odinger KdV-BBM, and Schr¨odinger BBM-KdV systems, and the abcd-system. In particular, it is shown that periodic traveling-wave solutions exist and are explicitly given in terms of cnoidal, the Jacobi elliptic function. Certain solitary-wave solutions are also established as a limiting case of the periodic traveling-wave solutions, that is, as the elliptic modulus approaches one.

Recent unprecedented trend towards novel vehicular network applications (e.g., lane change assistance, collision avoidance, accident reporting, and infotainment) led to research activities towards the novel design of vehicular networks. Such a novel design can leverage metaverse architecture among various possible schemes. However, enabling the metaverse for a vehicular network requires careful placement of meta spaces (i.e., virtual network functions based on virtual machines running a virtual model of the actual network) at the network edge. Furthermore, virtual network functions will use additional entities (e.g., memory storage) to better implement meta spaces. Therefore, in this work, we consider the efficient placement …

Blockchain technology has gained considerable attention in wireless network scenarios due to its security features. However, the complex workflow of blockchain consensus negotiation often results in high energy consumption. This may cause nodes to run out of energy quickly and go offline, especially in wireless networks with limited node battery capacity. To improve this issue, we propose a sharding scheme named Green Sharding (GS), which minimizes the energy consumption for Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT) consensus. The GS assigns nodes in a wireless blockchain network to specific shards based on their geographical location, thereby avoiding their participation in a global …

Software-defined network (SDN) is characterized by its programmability, flexibility, and the separation of control and data planes. However, SDN still have many challenges, particularly concerning the security of network information synchronization and network element registration. Blockchain and intent-driven networks are recent technologies to establish secure and intelligent SDN. This article investigates the blockchain-based architecture and intent-driven mechanisms to implement intent-driven security software-defined networks (IS2N). Specifically, we propose a novel four-layer architecture of the IS2N with security capabilities. We integrate an intent-driven security management mechanism in the IS2N to achieve automate network security management. Finally, we develop an IS2N platform with …

The widespread distribution of intelligent applications and devices, coupled with the vast array of mobile data, technologies, and architectures within Sixth Generation (6G) networks, highlights the importance of optimization strategies. Concurrently, state-of-the-art Metaheuristic Algorithms (MHAs) have emerged as a promising optimization approach for wireless networks, bridging game theory and convex optimization domains. Falling within the domain of Artificial Intelligence (AI), MHAs draw their inspiration from Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs), which are rooted in the principle of natural selection, the principles of Swarm Intelligence (SI), and Trajectory-based Algorithms (TAs). In recent times, MHAs have been implemented in the 6G network. These simple …

Oceans, vast reservoirs of abundant fish and marine life, exhibit varying exploitation and utilisation potential across space and time. A comprehensive understanding of the complex interaction between the environment, biology, and fish movements is crucial for accurately predicting fishing grounds, a key prerequisite for sustainable fisheries. The application of remote sensing technology has significantly enhanced the predictive capabilities on fisheries. It can portray environmental variables linked to productivity across the ocean, effectively identifying potential fishing grounds. Fishing grounds around the world are often found along current boundaries, upwelling zones, eddies, continental shelves, and reef banks. Oceanic fronts typically mark these …

The continual emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants has necessitated the development of broad cross-reactive vaccines. Recent findings suggest that enhanced antigen presentation could lead to cross-reactive humoral responses against the emerging variants. Toward enhancing the antigen presentation to dendritic cells (DCs), we developed a novel shikimoylated mannose receptor targeting lipid nanoparticle (SMART-LNP) system that could effectively deliver mRNAs into DCs. To improve the translation of mRNA, we developed spike domain-based trimeric S1 (TS1) mRNA with optimized codon sequence, base modification, and engineered 5′ and 3′ UTRs. In a mouse model, SMART-LNP-TS1 vaccine could elicit robust …

Wireless applications require a low power technology that enables DC/analog/RF functions on the same chip. It is well established fact that Multi-channel FinFET (Multifin) enhances the DC/analog/RF performance of the FET. The proposed design with spacer dielectric ensures reduced OFF current (IOFF), better subthreshold performance and improved ON current (ION) towards high performance and low power applications. Along with single-k spacer a dual-k spacer combination of (Air + Si3N4) called hybrid spacer (low-k towards gate and high-k near source/drain) is studied for the first time towards DC/analog/RF and linearity metrics of Multifin FET. The Air spacer shows extravagant performance towards …
