The production gap between current and attainable yields is highest on Africa's smallholder farms, and some studies indicate that they might not benefit from the yield gains offered by conventional farming. Simultaneously, alternative farming systems like organic provide biodiversity and soil fertility advantages, but their ability to produce sufficient food is still under debate. Indium selenide (InSe), a layered chalcogenide material, has gained substantial scientific interest as a thermoelectric material due to its intrinsic low thermal conductivity. However, its intrinsic carrier concentration is notably minimal (∼10¹⁴ cm⁻³) due to a significant bandgap of 1.3 eV limiting its thermoelectric efficiency. Therefore, to optimize InSe-based materials for thermoelectric applications, it is essential to increase the carrier concentration through precise doping methodologies. Samarium-doped Ba2ZnSi2O7 orange red-emitting phosphors for novel applications in temperature measurement were prepared by a solid-state synthesis method. A Ba2ZnSi2O7 akermanite-structured Sm³⁺ phosphor was allocated to the C2/c space group and monoclinic system. Using FTIR, identification of different bonds with their vibrational modes has been done. Stimulated at 403 nm, the as-prepared phosphors show yellow (560 nm), orange (600 and 645 nm), and red (705 nm) emissions, which were also used to maximize the dopant concentration. Sm³⁺ ions may be uniformly dispersed throughout the Ba2ZnSi2O7 matrix, and Sm³⁺ consists of irregular microparticles. Optical energy bandgap values for …

National parks and protected wilderness areas provide benefits through leisure activities to many. Yet, many people with disabilities are unable to experience these benefits because of barriers. Therefore, it is important to understand how to improve access to these spaces for people with disabilities. The objective of this study is to identify barriers and facilitators to accessibility in national parks and protected natural areas. Using a scoping review methodology, we searched eighteen academic databases and found 44 sources meeting our eligibility criteria. BACKGROUND: While counseling and pharmacological interventions are known to facilitate smoking cessation, poor adherence can impact their effectiveness. Therefore, this study aimed to identify personal and clinical factors that influenced adherence to smoking cessation treatment among socioeconomically disadvantaged adult Oklahomans enrolled in a publicly available tobacco treatment program and observational research study.

METHODS: Adult participants (N = 442) were enrolled in a community-based tobacco treatment program. Logistic regression models identified sociodemographic, mental health, and substance use characteristics associated with treatment adherence. In this study, chitosan (CS), dextran (DN), and magnesium chloride (MgCl2) salt-based soild blend polymer electrolyte (SBPE) membranes that conduct Mg²⁺ ions have been developed. XRD revealed changes in the microstructure by incorporating MgCl2 salt into the polymer host due to polyblend-ion interaction, verified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. At room temperature, the electrolyte membrane containing 30 wt% MgCl2 reached an ionic conductivity of 1.79 × 10⁻⁵ S cm⁻¹. An ion transference number (tion) of about 0.73 was achieved for 30 wt% of magnesium salt, suggesting the dominance of ion conduction in the SBPE sample. The …

Background: During the past several decades, enterococci are emerging as an important cause of healthcare-associated infections. They have developed resistance to various antimicrobials previously used for the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs). This study was aimed to determine the prevalence of Enterococcus species among urinary tract-infected patients in a tertiary care hospital, in Karnataka, India. Material and Methods: We have analyzed 4341 culture-positive urine samples received by microbiology laboratory during the year 2021. The bacterial identification was done by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry.
