BACKGROUND: Mitral annular disjunction (MAD), posterior displacement of the mitral valve leaflet hinge point, predisposes to arrhythmias or sudden cardiac death. We evaluated the burden of MAD, mitral valve prolapse (MVP), and mitral regurgitation (MR) by heritable thoracic aortic disease gene in a cross-sectional analysis of 2014-2023 data in the Montalcino Aortic Consortium registry.

We present optical and near-infrared observations of two Type Ibn supernovae (SNe), SN 2018jmt and SN 2019cj. Their light curves have rise times of about ten days, reaching an absolute peak magnitude of Mg(SN 2018jmt) = - 19.07 ± 0.37 and MV(SN 2019cj) = - 18.94 ± 0.19 mag, respectively. The early-time spectra of SN 2018jmt are dominated by a blue continuum, accompanied by narrow (600- 1000 km s^{- 1}) HeI lines with the P-Cygni profile. LGBTQ+ people (e.g., lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning people) experience systemic marginalisation and discrimination globally and throughout India. In October 2023, the Indian Supreme Court rejected the legal recognition of same-sex marriage, blocking marriage equality for LGBTQ+ people and contending that the right to marry neither qualifies as a fundamental right accorded by the Indian Constitution nor falls under the Supreme Court's purview. This study identifies the use of processed lateritic fine aggregate (LFA) as a sustainable material for the replacement of natural fine aggregate (NFA) in self-compacting concrete (SCC). Cubes were cast with LFA replacements from 10% to 80% with an interval of 10% for checking the compressive strength development at 28 and 90 days. The findings demonstrate that the replacement of 30% NFA with LFA leads to the optimum performance, resulting in compressive strengths of 45.5 MPa and 53 MPa after 28 and 90 days of curing. Background: Paediatric community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a major public health challenge in children, requiring accurate and timely diagnosis of causative pathogens for effective antibiotic treatment. We aimed to explore the utility of next-generation sequencing (NGS) in precise diagnosis of pediatric CAP and its effect on treatment outcome of these children. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to compare NGS-guided antibiotic therapy with conventional methods in pediatric CAP. The study followed PRISMA guidelines and searched for electronic databases including PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Sciences from 2012 to 2023. Studies on pediatric CAP (<18 years) using NGS alongside conventional diagnostics, were included. Results: Database search identified 721 studies and 6 were finally included for review, published between 2019 and 2023. Meta-analysis revealed an overall odds ratio of 2.39 (95 % CI 1.22, 3.56) for NGS vs conventional methods. Detection rates using NGS ranged from 86% to 100 %, surpassing conventional methods (26%–78.51 %). Five out of selected 6 studies (83.33 %) have documented that change in treatment based on NGS finding resulted in clinical improvement of patients. There was no significant heterogeneity and potential bias among the studies. Nearly 80 % of the studies were of good quality. Conclusion: The NGS (particularly metagenomic sequencing) is a promising tool for diagnosing paediatric CAP with high accuracy. It can improve antibiotic usage practices and patient outcomes, potentially reducing antibiotic resistance. Based on meta-analysis, training of healthcare professionals in NGS methodologies and result interpretation is highly recommended.

Vascular dementia (VaD) is a complex neurodegenerative condition, with cerebral small vessel dysfunctions as the central role in its pathogenesis. Given the lack of suitable animal models to study the disease pathogenesis, we developed a mouse model to closely emulate the clinical scenarios of recurrent transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) leading to VaD using vasoconstricting peptide Endothelin-1(ET-1). We observed that administration of ET-1 led to blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption and detrimental changes in its components, such as endothelial cells and pericytes, along with neuronal loss and synaptic dysfunction, resulting in irreversible memory loss. The Critically Endangered white-bellied heron Ardea insignis is a large-bodied, range-restricted, piscivorous bird of the Himalayan mountains. With fewer than 60 individuals remaining globally, regular monitoring is required for this rare species. We present the results of surveys during 2017 and 2023-2024 in Namdapha Tiger Reserve, Arunachal Pradesh, India. The encounter rate of white-bellied herons in 2017 was 0.55 individuals per km of river, but we did not detect the bird during intensive surveys in the same location during 2023-2024.
