Pesticide Runoff From Conventional, Minimum, And No-Tillage Cropping Systems: Meta-Analysis Of Published North American Data, Daniel Fleming, Dave Spencer, Chicot Irrigation

Pesticide applications may soon be regulated by laws predicated on the presupposition that reducing tillage, and thereby increasing soil surface crop residue cover, decreases sorbed and soluble agrochemical losses in surface runoff and erosion. This analysis was conducted to determine whether pesticide transport via surface runoff and erosion could be manipulated by tillage practices. Estimates of the amounts of crop residue cover within each tillage practice were averaged from data reported in the original articles. Response ratios of the paired means of runoff, erosion, and pesticide losses and concentrations from the effects of tillage practices were meta-analyzed as paired t-tests …

This dataset encompasses 64 LithiumWerks APR18650M1B cells cycled under 11 unique conditions until they reached their end-of-life at 80% remaining capacity. Cycling tests were interrupted approximately every 3.5 days (~100 cycles, depending on the conditions) to perform a reference performance test (RPT). During the RPT, the cell’s current capacity is measured, and several 100-second-long CC pulses are recorded at three states of charge. The cycling and RPT data are sampled at 1Hz and span over 38 weeks of testing.

The isotopic composition of tooth and bone has long been exploited in ecological, environmental, and archaeological studies. Increasingly, hydrogen and oxygen isotopes in collagen are used as tracers of environment and diet. However, the isotopic relationship between hydrogen and oxygen in collagen and oxygen in tooth enamel is poorly described. A new investigation of varied wild large herbivores shows that δ18O and δ2H in collagen are both strongly correlated to δ18O in tooth enamel carbonate, with a d18O collagen vs. δ18O carbonate slope ~0.8 and a δ2H collagen vs. δ18O carbonate slope ~6. Firm-Level Climate Change Risk And Corporate Debt Maturity, John W. Goodell, Alessia Palma, Andrea Paltrinieri, Stefano Piserà

University Research

Exploiting a sample of worldwide listed firms, we explore the effect of firm-level climate change exposure on debt maturity structure. We find that climate change risk is negatively and statistically significantly associated with long-term maturity debt issuance. Further, we find that the climate change risk-debt maturity structure relationship is non-linear and changes according to firm-specific, country legal origins and macroeconomic conditions. We confirm our results by running several robustness tests to reduce endogeneity concerns, sample selection biases, and econometric model specification. Taken together, our evidence reveals firm debt maturity preferences when climate change risk increases, extending the literature on both …

Aerosol particles play a pivotal role in shaping clouds, precipitation, and climate. However, it still remains one of the significant uncertainties in climate change. While most aerosols are activated at the cloud base, the aerosol particles entrained from the cloud top or edges can also contribute to droplet formation above the base. This process might significantly impact cloud properties and lifetimes.

In this study, we investigate how entraining aerosol-laden air affects cloud microphysics by adding aerosol particles to the dry-air inflow in the Pi chamber experiments. The findings show that the cloud droplet number concentration and liquid water content increase …

This report focuses on seven water quality measurements taken at 43 different depths on the Bear Lake for the months of June - November in the years 2018 - 2023. These measurements create a high-dimensional dataset on which we apply state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) techniques to look for low-dimensional structure in the data. A similar effort was made for weather measurements taken near the lake. Our analysis revealed that water quality measurements tend to cluster (i.e., group together) by year, while weather measurements tend to cluster by time of the year. Submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) introduces nutrient-rich, low-salinity water into coastal ecosystems, significantly altering reef biogeochemistry. At Black Point, Oʻahu, we employed a novel, two-pronged approach that integrates a cost-effective small unmanned aerial system equipped with a thermal infrared (sUAS-TIR) sensor and high-resolution benthic salinity time series to resolve previously unobserved, fine-scale patterns of SGD delivery. sUAS-based sampling overcomes key limitations of prior SGD mapping methods, such as labor-intensive and spatially constrained in situ sampling, by enabling rapid deployment, real-time visualization of mixing dynamics, and high-resolution imagery. The bedside swallow evaluation is the most common non-instrumental diagnostic tool used to assess and diagnosis dysphagia as well as recommend diet levels and compensatory strategies. Currently, because of patient variability, there are no thorough online demonstrations that help speech-language pathology students understand when to trial different consistencies versus compensatory strategies. This project walks through a bedside swallow evaluation for three common patient profiles: Parkinson's Disease, Stroke, and Head/Neck Cancer. Study region: Oakes aquifer, Northern Great Plains (NGP), North Dakota, USA Dataset focus: This dataset contains hydrologic model outputs and input parameters used to estimate groundwater recharge in the Oakes aquifer for the 1991–2024 water years. Recharge was simulated using the Cold Region Hydrological Model (CRHM) and HYDRUS-1D, with hourly climate data and field-based observations of snow water equivalent (SWE) and multi-depth soil moisture at ten sites collected during 2022–2024. The dataset includes model parameters, HRU characteristics, and simulated recharge fluxes, along with associated input climate and soil data.
