This module is a brief course in the core models of program evaluation that can theoretically be applied to any set of actions to reduce a problem or improve an outcome. These models show how all directed acts begin with a "need" which then develops into a "theory" of how to address the need. After this, the theory produces a program which is "implemented" and which is followed by a measurement of the "outcome" on the original need.

This interactive case study about diabetes care requires learners to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to work their way through the case study and provide the patient with appropriate care. Each decision the learner makes will have consequences, similar to interactions with patients in the field, and the learner will adapt as new information is presented.

Sprague Dawley rats were exposed to chronic hyperoxia (60% O 2 ) as juveniles or as adults. Ventilation (whole-body plethysmography) and metabolic rate (respirometry) were then measured in normoxia (21% O 2 , balance N 2 ) and during acute hypoxic or hypercapnic challenges (15 – 20 minutes in 12% O 2 or 7% CO 2 , respectively) immediately following chronic hyperoxia or after a period of recovery in room air. These Labs were developed for 32-bit Windows machines but PSU student Itan Altamirano reconfigured installation programs to bypass steps that ask for DVDs and allowing these 32-bit programs to work on 64-bit Windows 11+ computers.

This computational dataset was developed from a transcription of Book 1 of the Oakwood Cemetery Registers, held by Oakwood Cemeteries of Syracuse, Inc. in Syracuse, New York. The project to digitize and transcribe the handwritten register was initiated by Syracuse University Newhouse School of Public Communications and accomplished as a joint project between Newhouse, the Syracuse University Libraries, and the Central New York Library Resources Council.

The register documents interments from 8 November 1859 through 27 March 1902 and includes pertinent information about the deceased. The transcribed information has been normalized by Libraries staff for use as computational data. Please …

High Impact Practices Student Showcase Fall 2025

Our group participated in STEM Day, an engaging biannual event that brings together K–12 students to explore the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through hands-on experiences. When planning our presentation, we aimed to create an activity that was both visually exciting and easy for students of all ages to understand. We chose to demonstrate the concepts of polarity and density through a fun and interactive experiment in which students created their own lava lamps. This activity allowed the students to observe scientific principles in action while encouraging curiosity and enthusiasm for STEM learning.

Publications and Research

The Z₂ gauged XY model is of long-standing interest both in the context of nematic order, and the study of fractionalization and superconductivity. This paper presents heuristic arguments that no deconfinement of the XY field occurs in this model and presents results of a large-scale Monte Carlo simulations on a cubic lattice which are consistent with this conclusion. The correlation radius determining the confinement is found to be growing rapidly as a function of the parameters in the phase featuring the nematic order. Thus, mesoscopic properties of the system can mimic deconfinement with high accuracy in some part of …

This dataset contains the raw, unprocessed NMR data for the title compounds of the paper "Synthesis and characterization of γ-acyloxyl-ε-caprolactones” published in iScience (DOI: 10.1016/j.isci.2026.115190. NMR spectra were acquired on a JEOL-ECZS 400 MHz spectrometer in CDCl3 (Cambridge Isotope Labs, 99.8% D) and are saved in the .jdf format. Chemical structures in this document will be represented in the SMILES format. The paper details the synthesis of eight lactones, with variation of the exocyclic ester. The high entropy boride (HEB) Al0.2Nb0.2Pt0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2B2, with its unique crystal structure and high coordination (platinum coordinated to 12 borons), has been shown in our previous work to exhibit exceptional catalytic properties, especially in sulfur-rich environments, where traditional platinum catalysts would succumb to sulfur-poisoning. In this work, we investigate the mechanism of the HEB catalyst, first by comparing the synthesis by flux growth, as previously reported, to an arc melted preparation. It is evident that the aluminum flux growth synthesis encourages the growth of single crystals, with clear and defined crystal facets, whereas the arc melted sample results in poorly defined …

MoBene (the boride equivalent of MXenes) has been a synthetic challenge because borides degrade in common etching media. Inspired by the intercalation of lithium ions into AlOOH, we hypothesized that a hydrothermal route enables lithium ions to intercalate the aluminum layer of MoAlB and further separate the MoB sheet apart. Here, MoBene is first synthesized through a mild hydrothermal etching method with dilute lithium hydroxide. X-ray diffraction showed a peak at 8.9°, confirming an exfoliated layered …

Urban soil contaminated with anthropogenic sources of Pb is a major contributor to child Pb exposure. To assess the Pb risk in urban areas, composite samples were collected from 142 voluntary privately owned 142 residential parcels in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park, Michigan. Samples were collected at two time periods, before and after treatment applied for those denoted as treatment sites. Samples were collected from areas covered with turf grass on the parcels from the front, middle and rear sections. In the Philippines, children are often barred from participating in important familial and societal decision-making processes, as adults would invoke authority to silence the young ones from speaking and sometimes even treating children like retirement plans. Medina, Enriquez, Alampay, and Jocson, among other scholars, have associated this with the typical expectation that children should be submissive to elders and indebted to their families from birth. This paper examines how distorted perceptions of Filipino values rationalize and reinforce totalizing familial practices.
