A Comparison Of The Illinois Test Of Psycholinguistic Abilities And The Parsons Language Sample In Assessing The Linguistic Functioning Of Institutionalized Mentally Retarded Children, Ralph Donald Lee Horner
A Comparison Of The Illinois Test Of Psycholinguistic Abilities And The Parsons Language Sample In Assessing The Linguistic Functioning Of Institutionalized Mentally Retarded Children, Ralph Donald Lee Horner
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this research was to compare the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities and the Parsons Language Sample in assessing the linguistic functioning of institutionalized mentally retarded children. A stratified sample of mentally retarded children was administered both the ITPA and PLS in counterbalanced order. The results were correlated through the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and the correlation matrix analyzed through a principle-components factor analysis. The ITPA, PLS comparison produced high correlation coefficients with the exception of the Intraverbal Gesture sub-test of the PLS. The factor analysis of the correlation matrix revealed one or more sub-tests had high loadings …
Organismic Psychology And Systems Theory, Ludwig Von Bertalanffy
Organismic Psychology And Systems Theory, Ludwig Von Bertalanffy
Heinz Werner Lectures
"This book contains the Inaugural Lectures given at Clark University in honor of the late Heinz Werner, world-famous developmental psychologist. Dr. von Bertalanffy here attempts to establish a new interdisciplinary science of man, a science that would encompass aspects of psychology, biology, psychiatry, linguistics and anthropology by emphasizing the centrality of the concepts of symbol and system. These lectures develop the foundation of this projected science through acute criticism of contemporary images of man and his nature."

The Effect Of Preliminary Training In Phoneme Discrimination On The Articulation Of An Unfamiliar Speech Sound., Dolores Smith Butt
The Effect Of Preliminary Training In Phoneme Discrimination On The Articulation Of An Unfamiliar Speech Sound., Dolores Smith Butt
Psychology ETDs
The usual procedure followed by speech therapists in correcting defective articulation is to begin with a period of auditory training before giving direct practice in articulation. Presumably, this auditory training will later transfer to articulation le~rnin5. Defective articulation is the most frequent type of speech problem which a speech therapist must treat. In these cases, a student may omit, distort, or substitute error sounds for the correct articulation of a speech sound, or phoneme. The ti1erapist attempts to teach the child. correct articulation, out in many cases the child cannot produce the phoneme correctly and direct practice is difficult. Therefore, …
The Verbal-Quantitative Differential As An Indicator Of Personality Maladjustment, Robert W. Spencer
The Verbal-Quantitative Differential As An Indicator Of Personality Maladjustment, Robert W. Spencer
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Counseling centers at many universities are constantly trying to improve their value to the universities by identifying the students who have problems, and by making known to students the services that are available. Since many counseling centers are in direct contact with large numbers of students during the admissions testing program, it would seem that data gathered at this time should be carefully examined for clues that would aid a student in making a healthy and profitable adjustment to his university environment.

The Development Of A Standardized Interview For Measuring Non-Intellective Factors Associated With Success And Failure Among College Students, William Hensley Leftwich
Master's Theses
This study represents an attempt to discover factors differentiating achieving and non-achieving college students. It was done as a part or a larger program being conducted in the University or Richmond Center for Psychological Services. It involved the construction and use of a standardized interview developed particularly for college students. It is hoped that in the future this instrument or a similar technique may aid in the prediction of academic performance.

A Comparison Of Scores Of Negro And White Children On The Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Children, John Robert Blakemore
A Comparison Of Scores Of Negro And White Children On The Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Children, John Robert Blakemore
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This investigation concerns the intelligence of the Negro population in relation to the white population. There is a considerable difference of opinion relating to the intelligence of the Negro. Some students in the field contend that the Negro's intelligence, as measured by the tests available for all individuals, is naturally lower due to hereditary factors. Other investigators (these seem to be in the majority1 believe that environment plays the major role in lowering their ability to gain a comparable score with white individuals.

The Formation And Retention Of Concepts As A Function Of Their Abstractness, Ruth Baker Hines
Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice
The general problem of the experiment was to investigate the influence of abstractness on the formation and retention of concepts. The specific problems were the following: (1) How does abstractness influence the number of promptings required to learn and relearn concepts? (2) What is the relation of abstractness to the percentage of consistent concepts learned and retained? (3) What is the relation of the number of promptings required to learn and relearn consistent or correct as compared with inconsistent or incorrect concepts? (4) What are the individual differences in the method of learning and relearning highly abstract concepts?

A Study Of The 1947 American Council On Education Psychological Examination And Its Usefulness In Predicting The Grades Of Utah State Agricultural College Freshmen, Russell B. Bateson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Prediction of future performance is attempted in almost every field of endeavor. The accuracy varies in different lines of study, and perhaps none is as subject to variability as those attempted with human beings as subjects.
When an attempt is made to ascertain in advance the performance of college students in their schoolwork, a multiplicity of complicating problems are introduced. Whereas intelligence can be fairly well isolated, it is difficult to control or even enumerated all the other factors that come into the problem of predicting grades from scores received on an intelligence examination. Among the factors that are difficult …
