This paper consitutes a terminal report to the United States Atomic Energy Commission for Contract AT(11-1)786. It provides a listing of the fauna known to occur at the Nevada Test Site, with designation of ecological distribution and relative density. It is designed to serve as the basic faunistic reference source, in subsequent studies, related to geographical and ecological features at the test site.

We, as seniors, are now rapidly approaching graduation and are beginning to plan our courses of action after receiving our degrees. Several are planning to continue their education in pharmacy or a related field, but for the most part, we will enter the profession at the retail level. Whichever direction we take, let's hope that we can remember the many things which our professors have tried to teach to us, both from a practical and ethical point of view. Perhaps the most important at this time are the ethical standards, for without ethics, we cannot truly call Pharmacy a profession. …

Nebraska Beef Cattle Reports

Shipping fever is a respiratory disease "complex" of cattle. The disease causes extensive economic losses from death, loss of physical condition, inefficient feed utilization and treatment expense. The annual loss from this disease in the United States has been estimated to be $25,000,000.

In many respects shipping fever is similar to respiratory diseases of humans. It may occur in any season of the year, but is most common in the fall and early winter. Although any age animal may be infected recently weaned calves and feeder cattle which have just been moved from the range to feedlot are most susceptible.

[From the Introduction] The discoveries that histamine is found in the mast cells of a myriad of species, that 5-hydroxytryptamine is found in the mast cells of the rat and mouse, and that these amines are largely bound in granules made this cell of great interest to the student of amine biology. It meant that the mast cell, along with the cells of the adrenal medulla and the blood platelets could serve as a model system for the amine biology of the vertebrate nervous system whose complexity makes a direct experimental approach extremely difficult. United States Naval Medical Research Unit 3: Publications

Over the past several years a large number of references from the USSR, Eastern Europe, and China have been collected dealing with arthropods of medical importance. These references were coded on keysort cards which made it possible to index as many as fifteen subject areas on one card. The usefulness of this indexing system was evident by the number of medical entomologists who used it in searching for references in their specialty. In response to requests from workers in the United States and other countries who did not have ready access to the index. it was decided to publish these …
