The purpose of this study was to ascertain if there are similarities and differences that differentiate one paramedical group from another in the realm of non-intellectual characteristics. Senior students and successful practitioners in four paramedical groups selected were Registered Nurse. Licensed Vocational Nurse, medical Assistant, and Dental Assistant.

The Dialysis Of Caffeine Through Selected Semi-Permeable Membranes, Paul James Perry

Until the past few years, cellulose derivatives, (e.g., cellophane, collodion, and parchment) and animal membranes (e.g., goldbeater’s skin) have been the only dialysis membranes employed commercially. Cellophane has been used as the dialysis membrane in the artificial kidney since the machine’s inception in 1914. It continues to serve in this capacity, even though, in the last few years, attempts have been made to develop better films.
An appreciation of both the “solution theory” and the “pore theory” is in order for this discussion. By incorporating the dynamics of these theories in the techniques of membram formulation, improved membrane performance can …

The Attempted Synthesis Of 4,4-Dimethyl-3-Dimethylamino-2,6-Cyclohexanedione Carboxamide, Roger Leith Cockerline

The use of boron-containing amines for the amino alkylation of amides has been investigated in our laboratories with the aim of preparing compounds which could be used in neutron capture therapy. The purpose of this procedure is to achieve selective irradiation of a neoplactic growth by inducing radioactivity throughout that tissue. Although the results obtained in destroying tumors have not always been encouraging, they have been such - especially in cases not amenable to treatment by surgery or chemotherapy - that further research is warranted in order to develop drugs that can be used effectively in neutron capture therapy (Farr, …

William T. Sanger (1885-1975) narrates his rise as president, then chancellor, of the Medical College of Virginia (MCV). This autobiography details Sanger’s early childhood, admission to college, early career, and presidency of MCV. Through Sanger’s recollections, As I Remember serves both as a personal memoir and a history of MCV and medical education in Virginia.
