Werewolf On Campus: A Case Study In Inoculation Theory And Gamified One-Shot Library Instruction, Abigail Adams

University Libraries Faculty Scholarship

This case study details the development and results of an information literacy game in which undergraduate students evaluated fictional sources to learn how to recognize a werewolf on campus. The game relied on inoculation theory and fiction to teach students to identify indicators of mis and disinformation outside of any real-world examples that might affect their learning experience. The game showed promise as students were far more engaged and demonstrated better retention later in the semester than students who received a more traditional lecture about disinformation and source evaluation. However, the game would likely be more effective if it were …

Recent advances in computer vision (CV) and natural language processing have been driven by exploiting big data on practical applications. However, these research fields are still limited by the sheer volume, versatility, and diversity of the available datasets. CV tasks, such as image captioning, which has primarily been carried out on natural images, still struggle to produce accurate and meaningful captions on sketched images often included in scientific and technical documents. The advancement of other tasks such as 3D reconstruction from 2D images requires larger datasets with multiple viewpoints. We introduce DeepPatent2, a large-scale dataset, providing more than 2.7 million …

The intellectually challenged children (children with intellectual disability) suffer from a condition which limits their capacity to learn and function in the society. Ensuring qualitative education for this category of children is still an herculean task in Nigeria as at today. Because the conventional educational system is built on skills such as comprehension, memory, abstract thinking and problem solving, intellectually challenged children are at a disadvantage of being excluded in an inclusive education system. Allies, Cobelligerents, And The Political Realities Of Pursuing Social Justice Librarianship In Conservative Republican Communities, Bill Crowley

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Of late, public and school librarians have repeatedly encountered the unwillingness of many conservative communities and/or schools to support socially just collections and services. This article seeks to broaden the discussion of the factors involved. It does so for several reasons. The first is the reality that achieving a number of socially just library services in conservative communities will require the development of local coalitions. By their very nature coalitions often require compromise. This leads to the second reason, a recognition of the political limitations resulting from progressive demands for a total commitment to progressive ends to secure recognition as …
