The Neglected Institutionalism Of Schumpeter's And Knight's Views Of Rationality, J. Patrick Raines, Clarence R. Jung Jr. Jan 1986

The Neglected Institutionalism Of Schumpeter's And Knight's Views Of Rationality, J. Patrick Raines, Clarence R. Jung Jr.

Robins School of Business White Paper Series, 1980-2022

The concept of rationality is both the origination point and the Achilles' heel of the study of human behavior in economics. The rationalist view of human nature is arguably the most pressing issue facing contemporary economics. Fields of knowledge other than economics have developed alternative theories of human activity to the neoclassical's pure economic man. They include Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Kenneth Boulding's "grants economy," and John Rawls' original position doctrine. Within economics, the Institutionalists have been the leading critics of the assumption that behavior in the economic sphere is rationally directed.

A consensus view of rationality does not …

Mathematical Programming Model Of Western Australian Dairy Farms, G R. Olney, D A. Falconer Nov 1985

Mathematical Programming Model Of Western Australian Dairy Farms, G R. Olney, D A. Falconer

Animal production and livestock research reports

A profit maximising mathematical programming dairy farm model has been developed which determines the most profitable management strategies for the full year. This model was initially an extension of the one used in the Western Australian Dairy Feed Management Service (DFMS) which determines the most profitable ration to feed for a specific period, the milk yield per cow and the number of cows to milk. The DFMS is useful for formulating a ration for a specific period, particularly during summer on non-irrigated farms in Western Australia when complete hand feeding is required, but it cannot be used to determine optimum …

The Relationship Between Response Variability And Interview Contrast Effects, Salvatore John Cesare Jul 1985

The Relationship Between Response Variability And Interview Contrast Effects, Salvatore John Cesare

Psychology Theses & Dissertations

The low reliability and validity of the interview has lead to research aimed at improving its effectiveness. One such strategy is the microanalytic approach developed by Mayfield (1964). This approach centers on the decision—making processes errors made by the interviewer. One type of error is the contrast effect. A contrast effect is that situation where the rating given to an applicant is contingent upon the quality of preceding applicants. This study used a 3 X 3 (Induced Set X Target Applicant) factorial design to assess how different amounts of response variability by an average applicant can influence contrast effects. Subjects …
